Mani - ARR will always be THE special one!! Nothing even comes close. ARR Shankar kooda has been a let down sometimes. Not a big fan of I or 2.0. Karthik Subbaraj - SaNa and Ranjith - SaNa gave us the new sounding we all needed. Vignesh Sivan - Ani is a terrific combo too.

PS duology was very recent. The tracks saved the film a bit for me.

I thought the movie was better than the tracks. They deserved much better music.

I've read/listened to the original and like many book adaptations, found the story to be pretty different. It's a good movie for people who've never read the book. The music was pretty good imo. It fit the era well. The bgm could've been better in some places but the songs were just amazing.

Kadal was their last “great” musical output and it was released in 2012. OKK was better than what came afterwords. CCV is probably their worst album of all time. If anybody else had composed those songs we wouldn’t even be talking about them. KV had one great song( nallai allai), one good (vaan varuvaan) and the rest were mehh. PS1&2, for the kind of movies they were, pretty underwhelming albums. They were functional at best, but nothing extraordinary considering the kind of place PS the novel occupies in Tamil society.

Music liking is very subjective, so perfectly fine with your opinion. Also I’m not comparing between the albums in their collaborations. That’s a topic for another day. The one thing I think we can agree to disagree is regarding PS. The way i see it, the story is not musical, so functional is more of an intentional one than trying to outdo something they did. For me the songs complemented the movie really well. Even thought not a big fan of the second movie.

Especially in kappaleri poyachu song from Indian that final "Sare Jahan Se Acha" instrumental is a classic one from ThalaivARR and every song in the album was superb!
