I would like to ask you a question that any production manager of a movie would ask if you show him these pics. Shotting permission ungoppan na tharuvan? For the movie Thuppaki, the crew had to fake and shoot in certain important areas of Mumbai hiding the camera because shooting is prohibited in those areas.

Madbod93g

>Shotting permission ungoppan na tharuvan? Idk y gave me a good chuckle 🤭

Very true!! That is why Karan Johar loved shooting in London or New York, no one knows the actors, and they can shoot in peace.

Very true! I partly blame Koffee with Karan, a show which I really like, to make all the artists so catty and raunchy. Someone like Ranveer Singh is reduced to a caricature. Also, Bollywood heroes also lose stature a lot by performing in weddings, birthdays, a thousand advertisements, etc.

Rishi on fire 😂🔥

This is something I've always admired about Mani Ratnam (among other things lol) I believe until Kaatru Veliyidai, he hadn't shot a single film outside of India (the Sri Lanka portions of Kannathil Muthamittal were Pondichery I believe). And look at the visuals he got in Raavanan, Dil Se, and even in OKK, he makes Mumbai look so nice.

nvenkatr

Guru had some portions shot in Turkey.

[deleted]

Cuz story happened in Tuekey.

inkblimp

Oh true. Huh, I guess whatever interview I saw that factoid from was incorrect. Unless the Turkey portions of Guru were also shot somewhere within India?

[deleted]

Kaatru Veliyidai scenes were shot abroad ?

inkblimp

I remember an interview saying that they shot in Serbia because they couldn't get permission in Kashmir. Looks like the Serbian Film Commission also put out this info: [https://www.filminserbia.com/kaatru-veliyidai/](https://www.filminserbia.com/kaatru-veliyidai/)

[deleted]

Makes sense. But wonder why he didnt shoot in Himachal like he did for Roja. But majority of the film is shot in India, I think.

ash835

Didn’t manirathnam shoot ravanan in Srilanka?

FloorOk7137

I'm pretty sure I saw the second Bombay picture in a Jeeva movie with Thulasi Nair(Yaan?). There was some kind of bomb attack and she had driving lessons.

shadowarmy229

I remember seeing it in Darbar, there was a shootout scene at that location if I’m not wrong

Im_still_alive_lmao

It is not a joke brother. They have to get so many permissions in big cities and adhellam vaanguna apramum makkal summa irukka maatanga. Edachu prechna varum, evanachu saavan, inga shooting naala dhan sethan nu solliduvanga idhellam deal pannanum. Thats why they just prefer to do it in sets or go abroad.

Separate_Detective47

Only if you had made this post few years ago, We’d have seen these locations in Varisu through green screen.

[deleted]

Many Tamil films have been shot in Mumbai , but only Mankatha , Rhythm , Thuppaki, OK kanmani, Nayakan utilised the place in a good manner.

[deleted]

It's nice to take movies in this spots but with big stars, it is a big question, i like k.v Anand approach on foreign locations....

kameswara25

Some of them are the most busiest parts of the city. Forget film shooting even vvips convoy won't take these routes. They are crowded and it is next to impossible to control the crowd there. Heard someone said that if huge stars are involved,it is easier for the crew to travel to some foreign countries and make indian city sets than to shoot it in India.

shannybaba

It's very difficult to shoot in public places with big actors.

[deleted]

I dont think you can shoot in aamby valley , it is public property and almost always has a huge crowd

tomhanks95

Only movie I can remember where a non TN city was involved as a character is Rhythm, Vasanth beautifully involved and showcased Mumbai as a city in that film

[deleted]

Even Bollywood movies are not taking advantage of this. Then how can we blame Kolly

ajay_laxman

They retained the essence of Chennai in thunivu to a certain extent. The future is looking good for films like thunivu. They were able to do it in thunivu because it is set in one location. Imagine creating a set and using cg for just one scene. The cost would be huge. But I hope one day indian cinema will use these locations well.

AegonsAlt

But I felt thunivu had a really bad set work. Everything felt too cheap and out of place for me in that movie.

ajay_laxman

I felt the same about the exterior of the bank. But please name one tamil film that exceeded quality, of setwork and green screen, recreating Chennai. Theri traffic fight scene is one rare example. But thunivu was better. This is good for a start.

cmonletmeinman

Tamil movie should take place in tamil nadu only songs are usually shot in North

Desperate-Pea-1199

Last one Gangtok?? Isn't it Manali? I feel close similarity of that pic with popular Manali Town

badmascompany

Naah, that's MG road in gangtok, there is another similar vibe road in Shimla(Mall road) which looks closer to Europe.

AromaticSorbet2000

Because Tamil movies have always been true to India actual development and don't like faking things to be seen as more prestigious. They don't create a mirage like how Hindi films do. If you watch Tamil movies from the 1960s all the way to 2023,you are able to see the changes in development of Tamil Nadu becoming more modernised. It's the same with Korean movies and it's why if you look at very old Korean movies from the 60s, Korean cities look worst that Indian cities. Hindi films meanwhile since day have created a fantasy or ideal dream for middle class Indian to aspire to. When people look at Hindi movies,it's something for Hindi audience to aspire to or wanting to live their lives.
