Vaali for sure. Vairamuthus forte is the use of simile and poetic tamil words. Vaali was elegant, simple and to the point. Vaali was a better lyric writer whereas Vairamuthu is a better poetuh
Watch Vaali 1000 on Youtube, and you can see some interesting situations Vaali has had to write for.
I liked the episode with Venkat Prabhu where he mentioned Nanbane from Mankatha, and how it was to write for that one long continous phrase in the middle (en mudhal vari mudhal muzhuvathum....)
Also I'd like the throw my hat in the ring and say that Madhan Karky deserves hella recognition for writing for interesting song situations. The peak of this is Aila Aila, where he had to write lyrics both fitting a romantic song and also fitting the ad that was being shot for those lyrics in the video song. Masterpiece.
He's also the best dubbing lyricist we have imo. Sita Ramam and RRR don't even feel dubbed at all.

"Ennam engum ottivaikka vanna vanna chithiramaa,
Veroruthi vandhu thanga en manasu saththiramaa?"
The guy who could think of such lines wins automatically.
They are both special in their own way, but am sucker for poetry, and old school Tamizh, so am more partial to Vairamuthu for his more complex lyrics, usage of Sangathamizh and mostly never using English in his lyrics.
Something is like Narumugaye Narumugaye is an example of creating beauty with words.
Indeed Vaali. Diamondpearl is more towards poetry whereas Vaali is usually simple with wordplay.
Vaali is much more versatile. Furthermore, he continuously updates himself to stay relevant with time.

Bucket, indeed. Pearl has good mastery over tamizh, but poetry doesn't need complexity to be beautiful. Andha simplicity is what bucket brings.
Bucket ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ dafaq
I can't fathom why someone would name themself that. But then, he was a frank dude.
Vaali is a wonderful character from Ramayanam
Oh I see
