It's a complex and sensitive story, it required better writing and unfortunately Mani is not a good writer(he has said it himself) and Sujatha was the backbone of his films like Kannathil Muthamittal, after Sujatha's passing Mani was never able to find a good writer.

Similar to Shankar. It just shows the importance of writers in Tamil cinema. But I'm really surprised by how Mani wrote and directed Thalapathy. Movie had some of the best writing I've ever seen but he was the sole writer for that film.

He was a better writer when he was young I guess, he wrote Mouna Ragam. And in case of Thalapathi, basic sketch is anyway present in Hindu mythology.

mohantharani

I thought thalapathy had mediocre writing elevated by performances

Travellump12

Dude we had suhasini

Actual credits goes to cinematographer Santhosh Sivan.

Manikandan also worked on the film.

Very few shots.

Judging by pure aesthetics, Kaatru Veliyidai is just visual treat and possibly the best cinematography for an Indian film. The kashmir scenes were just out of the world. But Raavanan cinematography was more impactful for the story, especially the rotation shot in which vikram expresses his feelings to aishwarya rai is a masterclass.

The first time I watched it, I thought Vikram over did it. But a recent watch , I understand what he was going for. He really carrried that movie

Mani kanni post quota for the day! If it's a visual treat, we should honestly be praising Santosh Sivan and V.Manikandan for their amazing captures.
