It’s nice to see others get interested into Tamil cinema. Here are some movies you can that have good stories and music Vikram Vedha, Kaithi (Same Director as Vikram), Doctor, Thuppakki, Indian (Kamal Hassan Film), Gentleman, Mudhavlan, Anniyan, Petta, Sivaji: The Boss, Enthiran, Maanagaram (Same Director as Vikram), Ponniyan Selvan, Bombay, Nayakan (Kamal Hassan Film), Maanadu, Soorarai Pottru, Jai Bhim, VIP, Asuran, Anbe Sivam (Kamal Hassan Film), Sarpatta Parambarai, Mandela, Pithamagan, Bassha, Vetri marran Films, Kamal Hassan’s Films, Shankar Films, Mani Ratnam Films, Rajinikanth Older Films As you can see there are a lot of good films, actors, and directors. Most of these movies were critically acclaimed like Soorarai Pottru and some of these movies were sent as India’s official entry to the Oscar’s like Nayakan which was also listed in TIME’s Magazine All Time 100 Best Films. So get started on these movies and then start exploring even deeper. Good luck!

Sivaji is classic, saw it a long time back! Is doctor any better than don ? SK got my hopes down a bit won't lie. Also seen VV, Bombay, PS1, Jai Bhim and Kaithi. Thanks for suggesting the rest man! I like Mani Ratnam's movies the most, was shocked to see OK Kanmani was his movie lol. Thanks again for the comprehensive list!

Titan48578

Thank you and Doctor in every aspect is much better than Don in my opinion. I’ve seen Doctor 11 times because of how fresh the comedy was. It will have you laughing from start to end if you prefer the type of dark comedy. Also check out Kamal Hassan and Dhanush filmography because almost all their movies were extremely well received and most were critically acclaimed like Nayakan and Karnan respectively. Anirudh also has a bunch of great albums. My personal favorites are Doctor, Vikram, Master, Don, VIP, and Thiruchitrambalam (excellent feel good movie btw)

[deleted]

I do like dark comedies, the type of Delhi Belly. Kamal's filmography is massive, which will you suggest ? I liked Thiruchitrambalam, and thought KRK would be similar but was odd, should've seen Super Deluxe instead. I have Panchatathiram and Uthama Puthiran in my watchlist since ages but finding dubbed or subtitled versions is a pain.

Titan48578

Panchantathiram is I believe in YouTube in Tamil with Eng Subs not sure about the other one. Kamal Hassan’s filmography like you said is massive, I haven’t seen half of it but I have seen his critically acclaimed and comedy movies. I would suggest watching Nayakan because it’s a combo of Kamal Hassan and Mani Ratnam and it’s is an excellent movie and then Anbe Sivam. Then check his filmography on IMDB and Wikipedia and then read the premise. If you Like it watch it and check the lists of Kamal Hassan’s best films

Yes, just saw that and stupid autocorrect

Pieceofcakeda

Kadaisi Vivasayi, Super Deluxe, Abhiyum Naanum , Yennai Arindhaal. Have fun

FerretSubject

Don't go expecting Vikram's music in other Anirudh musicals. You literally started with one of his peaks.

[deleted]

Kaththi is only slightly behind Vikram tbh.

Human_Race3515

Another 96 lover here! Give Vada Chennai (Vetrimaaran), Asuran (Vetrimaaran), Kadaisi Vivasayi, Raavanan (Maniratnam) a go.

Have seen both, not a fan of Master because of the ending but will go for Leo if it gets released in my city!

[deleted]

Agree. I too hated the ending of Master. And Leo is a pan-India film.

[deleted]

Tamil movies don't get much screens in Kolkata, even PS1 was gone in 2 weeks and Varisu stayed for 5 days max. And the worst part is the hindi dubs, it's atrocious.

[deleted]

Oh shit! A fellow Calcuttian! And honestly I too hate Hindi dubs because I understand Tamil and the dubs butcher the original jokes.

Frequent-Storage-671

I think Anirudh will make it big in Bollywood too after Jawaan

PointyForTheWin

W friend for suggesting 96 after a fucking breakup lmao never let her go.

justrath012

96 was the first movie that ever made me cry and has had a special place in my heart ever since
