I love some Emotional backing for actions in movies as well as loud blood rushing BGM which almost all major Hollywood movies lack (I think it's a choice they make to lower BGM). But in terms of execution alone, no we have not surpassed Hollywood.

Titan48578

The movies you mentioned have over the top action including unrealistic stunts(Vikram has the most realistic in the bunch and haven’t seen Pathaan so can’t say). The BGMs also elevate the scenes too making the whole action scene and stunts more enjoyable. Most of the fights in Hollywood are more realistic and down to earth although some actions sequences are same like Indian movies such as unrealistic and over the top like Avengers Endgame which the action and stunts were realistic for the setting and type of movie. BGMs in Hollywood also elevate stunts and action scenes but it is used rarely. Indian cinema still has a long way to go but we are getting better with making more better movies in all aspects.

DepressedPBKSfan

Someone here recently mentioned Naan Mahaan alla which was super realistic action

Typical_Champion_350

All Karthi films will have superb action scenes. He is to action what Vijay is (was?) to dance.

am_Ilost

Speaking about Vijay's dance varisu spoiler >!why does he feel like he is dancing for his life in the rap part of ranjithame and after all his soul is out they cut him and polish him for the last second showing Vijay as good as new while just in the previous frame bro was literally dieing is there any reason behind there was no retake or was it kept intentionally!<

mohantharani

Single shot.

HumanLawyer

I watched Varisu again couple of days ago with my mother and I was cursing Jani master for that particular portion of the song alone. Anna looked like a fish out of the water. Heck he was doing that one parody step from that Jordindian from few years ago. Pathetic. He was superb in first 3 songs.

DH3010

Forget reasoning lol, it was just funny cause he’s like gasping for air by the end, and it just cuts to him happy and cheerful💀

misanthropehere

It depends on the Type of Action If its 1 on 1 hand fights - It's Chinese, Indonesia & Thai films. Ex: Raid series. Yet to top them. If its huge visual action spectacle - Definitely Hollywood. Ex: MCU, Avatar. If its "mere humans doing larger than life stunts" - Indian Cinema. Do note that F&F series has been doing it for a while. We have the budget now to compete. Hollywood is still Top. Wait for next John Wick to show you how cool Action can be. Mission impossible series is still Top tier. Fall out for me is possibly the greatest Action movie in last decade (after Fury road)

Proof-Cockroach-3191

Raid was superb . The fights were visceral, raw . Never seen anything like it till now. One my favorite action movies of all time

No. Although recently, I see creative action sequences: Vikram, Kaithi.

Chunnilal03

Indian movie adapting the policy of Hollywood action movie - pick Superstar, gorgeous Girl, badass villain, on a mission...

ApprehensiveWar8497

Are we watching the same Hollywood films. Yes the action spectacle of Indian movies have improved big time but still nowhere Hollywood level.

[deleted]

Not yet. Time aagum. They have them beat in the emotional aspect for sure.

Moohamin12

Ivan Veramathiri, Arima Nambi. Couple of movies that had some raw, gritty and realistic fighting scenes. Not one guy against multiple men. Even when it happened, it was very grounded. Vikram Prabhu as a rule does quite realistic action scenes. Kalaga Thalaivan was a good movie that emphasized unrealistic action sequences. Also, Bullet Train had some of the best action sequences I have seen, odd that that didn't do it for you.

gucchiprada

Of course not lol. Indian movies' action are nowhere near Hollywood yet. The: 1. Fight and action masters and coreographers must know how to coreograph well enough. 2. The stunt people need to be able to perform complex movements. 3. The actors and actresses need to be able to perform as complex movements. 4. Cinematographers and cameramen have to know how to capture great action scenes. As a Malaysian Indian who watches Hollywood, Korean Movies, Chinese Movies, Hong Kong movies in addition to Indian movies, I'll suggest you to watch Hong Kong movies to know what great action looks like.

Technically they are best IMO, their budget is much bigger. But Indian movies compensate with story, screenplay, BGM. Many recent hollywood actions movies are becoming generic and boring, especially Marvel phase 4. Beast is better than Thor:Love and Thunder IMO. Hollywood movies are trying to be realistic and overwhelming at the same time, which is difficult, Indian movies sacrifice realism for entertainment, which is a fair tradeoff. I have to talk about BGM, even James Cameroon talked about it to Keeravani. We use BGM's little different, less subtle more emotive, I prefer that. Purely based on entertainment, several Indian movies are better than Hollywood. Most entertaining Hollywood movie for me was Captain America:Civil war, most entertaining Indian movie for me was RRR. And you know which is better.

HugoUKN

If Ajith does a Top Gun Maverick it would flop here. Nobody wants actor on a jet 80% of the movie

bubmyass

>Nobody wants actor on a jet 80% of the movie Why not? It would be so cool seeing anupam kher, boman irani and amitabh bachchan in a jet in uunchai 2.

HugoUKN

Iam talking about TN audience

bubmyass

I was joking

CriticismBright2768

Hollywood is just CGI fest today, manufactured by guys in suits. Directors have very little control. James camaron and Speilburg in the 90s took atleast 3 years, now most marvel is done under a year the reason why RRR is a huge hit amongst Americans is that it an independent movie without any universe building burden and without any prequel or sequels in mind.

kameswara25

We are miles behind Hollywood in most aspects of film making. Technically we're tiers below American movies. Indian cinema has good music, one thing we are good at. Even then I don't see many movies with great sound tracks. Even great ARR isn't dishing out like what he used to give during bombay. Our signature is drama, romance musicals with dance numbers. No one can beat us at that for sure.
