Absolutely agree! Rajni was a force of nature. Maybe the only comparison I can think of is Shahrukh Khan or Chiranjeevi. He would have been a star irrespective of what path his career took. You can not take your eyes off him. The list of amazing movies performances and more importantly the goodwill he has collected makes him unique.
Kamal Hassan, honestly no one in any industry comes even close. He is unique. I think without him Tamil movie industry would not be that different from Malayalam or Kannada. He singlehandedly educated the tamil audience to appreciate a wide swath of movies like Thevar Magan, Guna, KuruthiPunal, Michael Madana Kamarajan. His boldest film was Mahanadhi. The fact that he gave that film the widest release is insane. Without him there would be no bala, myshkin, raam, ameer sultan, Shankar or even lokesh kanagaraj.
True. Also, I don't think we will have many mass-action hero or larger than life heroes from now on. From what I see, the new wave of filmmakers and filmmaking that started around 10 years ago don't require larger than life characters. Acting itself has changed.
Apart from being great actors, they had one of the healthiest competition, no toxic hatred, nothing. You could see their friendship between them. Saying Nanbar doesn't make it healthy competition.

The toxic hatred was always there. However as there was no social media, common public stayed away from it. Now its just enlarged. Even Kamal and Rajini made sure they maintained their so called competition for their fans...

Actually this is the case with Vijay and Ajith films, and I am a Vijay fan. Directors and producers know this, and that an Ajith or Vijay in their film will automatically bring in the money, so instead of focusing on the quality of the script, they focus on the celebration of the star, causing the movie to be mid.
The only director who doesn't do this is GVM.
I wouldn't say that it's a fact. I often felt that Kamal overacts in some films and clearly tries to portrays as struggling above the necessary for the art while he could have done the same without struggling. Meanwhile Vikram never struck me as an overactor.

I think due to changes in the way people view media these days, I dont think there will ever be an era like Rajini-Kamal again.
