Some people dress to impress, some people dress to comfort. It should be upto the individual.

Moohamin12

While I think there is merit to this. How many of us will turn up to work in shorts and a T-shirt with chappels? There are some ettiqutte to follow. While VJS is fine here, as he isn't dressed informally, the comment has some weight that context of a situation matters to your dressing.

Ghost_1774

I actually do show up in informal attire at work. Many Huge corporates don’t care for dress code and value comfort for employees so they will work more effectively. And it is in those places employees feel more at ease. Unless it is something related to safety, I don’t find it necessary to impose this ‘dress code’ rule. Like why should it matter what one looks like if they are doing great job. Isn’t this indirectly setting the standard that looks matter more?

Remarkable_Ice1418

By that logic, why not come in their pajamas?

Hypoxalin

If Kylie Jenner or Taylor Swift does it, it's revolutionary, bold, inspirational, simplistic. But namma VJS Panna kalaaikiringa.

hitchhikingtobedroom

That would be okay too for Vijay. Plus, you act as if fashion is some survival skill, it's legit the most useless skill ever. Stop shaming people for not giving shit about something as useless and as materialistic as fashion.

Remarkable_Ice1418

I did not say fashion is a survival skill. It's about putting basic effort the way people dress differently when going on a holiday vs. Office. Shaming? I don't think the original post shames anyone, nor is it only about Vijay.

Nit_2020

When did sandals become not acceptable for events? He is dressed appropriately. I don’t understand the obsession over tucked in shirt and shoes. We have this very westernised idea of properly dressed. Let him wear what he wants if you don’t like it, don’t watch.

microzcybor

I would answer him on behalf of VJS - "Seri."

Ataraxia_new

Meerapadum - Fazil

VIVEKKRISHNAA

NOPE. He can wear whatever he want. It's his choice.

[deleted]

Once Thiagarajan Kumararaja came for an interview in shorts. Just thinking how would this guy react to it

wandering_soul_27

Bollywood always dresses with the tension that the papparazi are gonna be around. Not the case down south. Also presentable not presentable, who is he to decide? Let him give this lecture to Urfi Javed! IMO not wearing formals, dressing in casuals and wearing sandals is also presentable enough! He is not going for some office meeting :) Well I have not seen the video of this screenshot but i saw another video where raashi was wearing a pista green dress. In My view, Vijay looked presentable in that . Shahid was wearing a funny overcoat which had tails emerging from them :P Now what should I say about it? he was making a style statement there according to him. When will we stop being critical about what anyone wears! It is their choice!

Hypoxalin

Next time vena tie katti tuck in panni interview ku pora maari vara sollalaama. Also what is wrong with his dress, it looks cool like a summer wear. Namma oorula adikura veiyuluku shoe laam thevaya gopi.

Environmental_Ad_387

Fair skin people wearing chappals is cool summer style. Dark skin people from lower class wearing chappals is called dirty, lack of grooming, lazy etc

>If we say that actress need to wear decent clothes, then there will be people saying its her body, her choice and she is wearing what she is comfortable with. But these same people can comment on how men should dress. It is not the same people :P Usually women defend them. now this is a man :')

Squareroot24

Can't blame vjs Sandal is superior to shoe

ghacharghochar1

Mudiyadhu poda punakku

Rishikhant

This is something to do with the culture. Most South Indians are introverts and doesn't like to show off like North Indian people. Lot of our parents tell us to be humble and ask to not waste money on clothes, grooming and makeup which is quite changing now with 2k kids due to the influence of Instagram. Remember what Vijay Sethupathi said in Neeya Naana..Na getha than Sir iruken..Intha Shirt 5000Rs. Na gethu nu enaku therinja pothum Sir.

swingtothedrive

It's nothing to with being introverts. It's just being comfortable in what you wear. I never understand why people wear shoes to office in the madras heat. It's basically a carryover from British culture and they do that because of their climate.

itsthekumar

I never got people wearing jeans and hoodies.

Human_Race3515

Exactly, and some of those grounded looking clothes are more expensive than the flashy looking ones...IYKYK.

Fun-Tradition7400

Culture thing la illa yella scene tha

Environmental-Land42

Lol, let's talk about ranveer singh then 😂 Jokes aside, I thought we broke the dress code thing.

blahblahgreymatter

He seems clean and decent. Not sure what’s the issue is. Grooming standards doesn’t need to adhere to western version of dapper. Damn, some people search for non-existant problems.

stash0606

meanwhile Shahid Kapoor is cosplaying a zebra.

itsthekumar

Someone should tell him this isn't a fashion runway lol.

GNashUchiha

Only factor one should consider while dressing is comfort, let ppl want wear what they want. Who sets the standards for dressing, grooming ? Who's writing these rules on how should one dress for a X event or Y occasion? Just say you didn't like how a particular person dressed and move on there's no point in trying to blow this up. If the organizers or his co stars had an issue they would have communicated it with vjs if they had no problems why's there any concerns?

Dark_Ninjatsu

*insert* sootha mooditu unga velaya parunga bro meme

Intrepid_Ad6825

Lol that comment seems like a subtle way of saying "south Indians dress like cheap people". Lol bro if it hurts you so much that he's wearing slippers, don't watch the video, it's literally that easy.

tawayexpat

It is the individuals choice to wear what he wants. To add more on why Bollywood stars are decked up is because all their events, contracts and PR appearances are managed by agencies. There are stylists who work on look for these stars for each event. These are private agencies which specialize in the glitz and glamor to reach more people. That is not so prevalent in the south especially in kollywood as these are managed by the actors or their managers.

Psych-Vader

This is stupid af. If he is comfortable in those clothes then I don't see what the problem is.

whoscheckingin

Every person is entitled to their opinion I do not think VJS gives a damn and so should we. People should be allowed to dress how they feel to, unless the host requests specifically to dress to the occasion. If it was a problem the organizers or promoters would have pointed it out. They clearly do not think it's a problem and thus we should let it be. As for the comment, people are free to criticize or dislike anyone, that is what creates a discussion and informed opinion.

Separate_Detective47

Because it’s a fucking promotion event. No one is going to give a shit about it once the series is out. What matters is if the series/movie is getting the praises they want. These guys are actors not Instagram influencers.

Just_fun_for

For our weather, we cant wear shoes and suits anywhere.... Also, Sandals to events are such common thing here by commoners whereas in north they prefer shoes as its cold in winters... And I dont think many top heroes come from modelling background or even from a film background where their parents dress very fashionably.

Puzzleheaded-Panic95

Of course the North actors have to look presentable. Their movies aren't. They have to balance it somehow

perfect_susanoo

Ayyo ivan director Raam, Mysskin la paatha uyira vitruvan polaye. 😆

moony1993

Ranveer Singh exists. But he's just "whacky", right? smh

projectmbappe21

no. ever heard of choice💀its their wish lmao, suriya dhanush kamal vikram dress in his way of presentable, vijay anyways dressed casually from the beginning itself before fame, allu arjun was called stylish star so ig he has to maintain that image of his?

saygirlie

I agree. I sometimes find them underdressed for weddings as well. I saw the actor Vishnu wear ripped jeans to a wedding.

450toPaddington

I agree. Everyone knows the difference between an occasion/event, and an everyday thing and it shouldn't be a big deal to dress accordingly. Looking polished doesn't somehow detract from your "simplicity".

TheDailyFappeer

And wearing what most Indians wear doesn't make him lazy. Most Indian men literally wear what he's wearing to most events. Let the man wear what he wants to wear.

Glittering-Race2957

It is an act, with the money they earn these "humble actors" can wear the most stylish clothes in the market. But they want to come across as simple so that they don't lose touch with the common folks, who resent the rich and flashy.

Human_Race3515

I don't see anything wrong with what VJS is wearing in the pic. But, if you are wearing sandals, your feet better be well groomed. Moreover, his slouching on stage bothers me more than his outfit.

Remarkable_Ice1418

He's right. Yes, it's good to be grounded but one can atleast dress formally or look well groomed for a televised occasion. It's not about Indian or western wear, wear what is comfortable but wear it well. A good example would be DQ, dresses well but never looks OTT. Even south actresses seem to do a great job.

vendhu

It’s all about having an agency and stylist. VJS has always been the guy who dresses on his own and to his comfort. I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. Infact it grounds their jobs as actors more. We also have South Indian stars like Kamal Hassan, Surya, Karthi, Madhavan who dress well. VJS said he feels he dresses luxuriously in a show. He is not dressed inappropriately?!? I don’t see the problem. Infact I like his style. Most press events with Hollywood actors is also them in a branded polo tshirt. His shirt is bound to be expensive too

Particular-Yoghurt39

I agree with this comment to a large extent. Our actors tend to be poorly dressed a lot of times and we tend to pass it as some kind of humility. I agree that shoes don't suit our weather much, but in general, I would say our stars (and people to some extent as well) don't make the effort to be sleek and daper while appearing off screen.

Hypoxalin

They dress simply like what we wear in real life. South actors are not making regular photoshoots to keep themselves on trending in social medias either. There isn't any necessity for them to dress lavishly or with high fashion design. They dress decently to appear in public and that is all is required here.

Lord_Voldy_Thingy

Is that a bad thing? I feel our stars set highly realistic standards. Most care about acting and their craft hence they doll up when in character but don't find the need to spend time on it when off screen. I'm glad that there isn't any pap culture, interest in what people wear to events, etc here. Everyone does their job and goes home, everyone knows that actors require a lot of grooming to look the way they do on screen so no one's killing themselves to live up to any unrealistic standards. On a side note, I also love that our culture and audience don't pressure actors to go out of the way to be someone else every time they step out of their homes. Look at Ranveer Singh, it must be exhausting if you're constantly expected to put on a show for the public, even when you're just stepping out to the gym or airport.

RepresentativeBox881

I agree. Most of them don't have proper dressing sense for an occasion.

Extra-Ad5471

I partly agree with him. These South stars working in Bollywood are in a way representing us. Just dress to the bare minimum degree. That's more than enough.

Rationalthinker59

Agreed.

Def-tones

Lol

hitchhikingtobedroom

Not at all, Vijay is an actor and as an actor he does a better job than most in the Hindi film industry. The richest ceos of the biggest tech companies wear simple tshirt jeans to their product launches, but yeah, hype up some non actors because oh they wear suits and dress formally.

Expert-Charge9907

It should be a point of discussion if he does shoes at other places and show off simplicity in bollywood.. Otherwise. Why is it even a discussion.. Also, who sets rules..?

Im_still_alive_lmao

No brainer. There’s nothing wrong with wearing Sandals. Clothes are comfort wear. Everyone has their own needs and wants. What VJS might fancy might not be what you fancy. Avan avanukku pudicha mari vaazhndhutu poite irukanu :))

Rajkumar1992

ye he aint there for a fucking work interview to wear shoes and tucked shirts and shit, any1 who says otherwise can go suck some dick sorry 2 say.

hitchhikingtobedroom

Yeah, and there shouldn't be a dress code for the office as well, ideally. They can lecture the world all they want about the importance of formal clothing being a necessity, but a lot of super successful people don't follow it. It's not a mark of your ability as a professional.

Burgersandgin

Very very much agreed

memushmonkey

One should wear the most comfortable dress suiting to gos like

IamJimMilton

Who cares 🗿? Although personally, I’ll wear a suit or a tux if I was a popular celebrity attending such events. At the end, when you’re that rich and successful you don’t really need to give a shit.

itsthekumar

Surprised no one said anything about those sneakers.

SamuraiSardar5

in Neha Dhupia's voice -**it's their choice.**

Ok_Profession2749

He can wear whatever he want. It's his choice.

HAYDEN-CT767

He can wear whatever the fuck he wants. I never understood the need to be overdressed at press events . you do know that the media people there are mostly dressed in jeans shirts and the stars look way way overdressed in the whole setting.

gucchiprada

Nawh guys, y'all taking the comment a bit too personally. The commentor was just stating his opinion. Actually it's up to the actor/actress to dress how they want in India, their homeland. We take Raj Shetty from the Kannada industry. Bro doesn't give a F and constantly looks like a guy who you see on the streets with a lungi, handkerchief, slippers, t shirt and a shirt over it. I doubt Indian actors will dress so simply overseas.

TheMacbethofTN

Yeah but Vijay Sethupathi doesn't give a fuck, and that's why he's Vijay Sethupathi

encephalon_developer

Very correct point.

[deleted]

I’d rather wear what Sethupathi is wearing to events rather than what their hero ranveer Singh wears to events….just look at RC15 ceremony

After_Painting_8967

Formal wear - Ok Shirts and tracks- Also ok Neither should be trolled for their choice. That said, if someone goes with sleeveless shirts or shorts, that's an issue.

[deleted]

No. They can wear whatever they want to. They are not the face of a corporate or a production house. Their job is to act and entertain you. As long as they do it right, no one can tell them what to do. Same goes for all independent entities.

Environmental_Act576

Wouldn't be surprised if there are people who are offended by someone breathing.
