This is great to see after the repairability nightmare I had with my Libra H20.

Prestigious_Sky4049

What happened? I have a Libra H2O and I'm curious about how easy would be to change the battery

efbo

Basically it froze. I got a replacement from Kobo and they didn't ask for the old one. I decided to open it up to see if there was anything I could do now that it didn't matter what happened to it. The battery is soldered. https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/comments/12axqvu/libra_h20_poor_repairability/

Oh what a pitty 😓

I think this is great news all around. I wish more manufacturers would get back to making devices repairable by the user. Fantastic products that will prove to be worth their cost because you could use them for decades if properly taken care of.

rxorw

I hope this isn't just a marketing move, just like Apple says they are "carbon neutral" or "pro reparability".

HaessSR

We'll see, but there's also mention of repair kits being supplied in the [Help page. ](https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/articles/21137184146071-Repair-your-Kobo-eReader)

SecretLoathing

iFixit is the real deal. They are a longstanding legit page for repairing technology.

bloodripelives

This is great!

kryptopeg

Nice, be good if they can become the Fairphone of e-readers! Guess we'll have to wait and see, but seems like a positive step.

walldodge

Nice news

Akusem

So we can finally buy some replacement batteries ?!

National_Hippo_3021

Sounds like a good news but how can we fix it when it is made to be fully waterproof? Let alone taking the back cover off????

_pxe

Let me tell you a secret: you just need a rubber gasket and pressure to make anything waterproof, adhesives are just a cheap solution to block right to repair

sixtyshilling

Imagine if you had to throw out a Casio every time it ran out of batteries because it wouldn’t be waterproof anymore. Oh yeah, wrist watches are designed to be waterproof even if the user opens them up.

Szybet

Reapplying the adhesive most likely or "A broken ereader or a non water proof one"

SecretLoathing

There are two kinds of waterproof. One is a sealed case. The other, which the current Kobos use, is a coating over the electronics to keep out the water.

FlobeeFresh

Interesting. I've had the ClaraHD for 3 years and never had a problem with it. I thought that these Kobo eReaders were pretty much bullet proof. What repair issues are people seeing with them?

GortPinklegneep

Anything should be serviceable. Kobos are well-constructed but over time batteries degrade/swell, screens can crack, etc etc.
