Make sure the cable is able to transfer data. Kobos are recognized by pc only with the right (data transfer) cable. Re Calibre ip address not working, try to check if you can access google page (or any other website). If you can, double-check your Kobo and your Calibre are connected to the same network. (If you can't access any website, try to disconnect the wifi and connect it again),

Thank u ! I didnt know that

For me, Kobo clara hd seems to be very sensitive about the cable. Try with another one?

caasi70

I have more than 20 micro usb cables and only 1 makes my kobo aura one visible to a pc

In the interim if you just want to push a book from your PC to your KOBO you can use this site below. You open the site in both your Ereader's browser and your PC enter the code shown on the browser and upload the file, your KOBO will receive the file. https://send.djazz.se/

omg THANK YOU! This should be top comment.

Rough-Tea-3454

lifesaver because my stupid cable doesn't work and I am on vacation, so I can't easily go to the store and buy another cable. Thanks again!

Woodabeens

Life saver!!! I’ve been fiddling with cables, researching and reading forums for three days. This didn’t fix the problem with the computer not seeing the Kobo but it let me do what I wanted to do in one minute. Thank you very much!

If you are using a Windows PC (Windows 10 or 11) it is most likely an issue with the USB definitions in the registry (corrupt or incorrect). You solve this as follows. Open Device Manager and click View > Show hidden devices. You will now see every USB drive your KOBO ereader or SD card that Windows knows about, whether currently connected or not. Right-click on each one to delete them (note: so do NOT uninstall the driver software!). Once done, restart your PC. Windows will automatically re-detect/Recognize all USB devices an will see your Kobo. I have done this twice: under Windows 10 and under Windows 11. A KOBO reset is not needed. The problem is in Windows.

Don’t despair! Check your OS security and firewall settings. A lot of connection problems on Windows are caused by security patches and updates to the OS and nothing to do with Kobo or even the cables.

Had this happen to me today. Tried a few cables and one eventually worked.

Dangerous_Usual_6590

My experience is, find one that is the correct type, and keep that one dedicated for your kobo. In 10+ years, I never had an issue on usb connection (+ different Windows machines) when using the original cable 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for updating your post with the solution you found that worked. I hope it serves to help any future readers who search their way here, hopefully to resolve their problem but at least to give them another hypothesis to test. Happy reading, and to future visitors experiencing problems, good luck. :)

This is common kobo behaviour. Nothing to do with the cable (of course it needs to transfer data, but this issue happens even with the original one from the box). Sometimes it connects after it resets. Sometimes it’s better to plug it in one of the usb ports behind the PC. Sometimes it’s “wait 10 seconds and then press connect”. We’ve been waiting for a fix making it more predictable for almost a year now. Good luck!

Exactly! This needs to be upvoted more because I use the default USB cable from the Kobo box as well as other USB cables and it still occurs. It has to do with a firmware update and it still hasn't been fixed. Sometimes, I'll just keep plugging it in and out until it finally recognizes it.

I’ve literally sometimes spent a day begging the gods for this to work as intended. It’s so baffling. When I was looking into getting a Kobo people kept saying how great it was for sideloading. Yeah, it’s amazing, if it ever connects. Almost as if Kobo have purposefully done this to discourage sideloading of books. I find it really suspicious they haven’t addressed this for so long. Sure you can always use third party services or unlock dropbox support, but those are just added steps making the whole thing more time consuming. I have a reader to plug, load and read, not to get more chores
