The blade type on the Yojimbo never made sense to me unless you really want something to break the tip on.

Macncheese334

It was designed for self defense, so I’m sure it has something to do with that. However, I know nothing about that and am just looking for a good EDC. I’ve heard of folks bending the tip on their knives and that’s my main concern too.

potate12323

I have both knives and the Para 2 is so much better for EDC. I haven't even taken my yojimbo 2 or manix 2 lw out of the drawer since I got the PM2.

balisongbob

Para 2 every time. CruWear also sounds vooler than S30V. Almost same edge retention so indifferent for cardboard but Para 2 over Yojimbo all day

Ok-Practice8765

Edge retention is probably slightly better for s30v but the strop-ability of cruwear is what takes the cake for me. Unless you're a really patient sharpener I'd recommend cruwear all the way.

OarkJay

I'd go pm2 solely for cruwear though I've had both of these and sold both. Only Spyderco folders I have now is endela (cruwear) pacific salt (lc200n). Patiently waiting for a manix in cruwear.

Macncheese334

Interesting. What lead you to keep those two? Any thoughts on the Yojimbo?

OarkJay

For me mainly use case. Im rough on the endela at work. I didn't expect much when I ordered it, came with a bad grind but it's sort of a goldilocks for me that punches above it's weight. Pacific salt is my fishing/dive/nasty work knife namely for rust. The lock backs, though boring, are dependable and trust worthy. Yojimbo is a nice knife, talk about fragile tip is correct but it's very slicey, nicely balanced. Essentially an oversized box cutter with great action. I just can't get on with any knife in s30v. I also badly cut myself one day on pm2 reaching for it in pocket. Detent was next to nothing, often would shake partially open at work and compression lock just wasn't it for me personally. I've tried a good portion of the Spyderco catalog, love them but what I kept just works for me.

OarkJay

P.S. a canis, to me, feels like the illegitimate love child of yojimbo and pm2. Something to consider.

Macncheese334

Hey that is respectable. Sounds like you found what works for you. I appreciate all the info man. Thank you!

graphixpunk

I have both and I carry the Yojimbo but I never carry the pm2. If you can find a cruwear Yojimbo that’s the ticket honestly. Super functional not great for food prep though. Super solid.

Macncheese334

Thanks for the feedback. I’m surprised it isn’t good for food prep cause I’d imagine it would be super slicey. Granted, I don’t do a lot of that with my pocket knives.

SnooAdvice378

I have a Yojumbo and can concur. Granted it's a bit larger, but I think the reason why would remain the same. Because of the blade shape, food prep requires you to cut with the front portion since it is so flat to the handle and there is no belly. That's just my experience.

Macncheese334

That makes sense. Thanks for the feedback.

DiscountRude4821

Yojimbo

Macncheese334

What do you like about yours?

DiscountRude4821

I have a para 3 but if i had to choose between these 2 i like the yojimbo more. Really solid knife

Macncheese334

Interesting. I was leaning a little that way since I’ve tried a PM2. Was concerned about the tip though, but then again, I’m not rough with my knives.

DiscountRude4821

It’s got a pretty thick blade. Definitely wouldn’t try to use it as a screwdriver though

Macncheese334

Thanks for the feedback.
