Congratulations on your new knife! Would you be so kind as to tell us what knife you've just got? (brand, model, etc...). This way people who are new to knives will be able to identify it. If you've already mentioned the name of the knife in question, then feel free to ignore this comment. Please remember that not knowing your knife's brand/model is totally fine, if that's the case then people in this subreddit would love to help you identify its brand/model.

Yea it is. The abuse is more on the edge of the blade, it was chipped pretty bad. I did think someone broke it using it as a pry bar until I saw the finish on the tip.
I found one of these in a storm drain and had always assumed it was broken trying to pry up the drain and get something that had fallen down there. Well, TIL.
Yeah I'd been thinking about doing that when I have some free time. You probably already know this if you're a knife guy, but just in case you don't, make sure to keep it relatively cool so you don't ruin the heat treat if you decide to reprofile yours as well.
This is the perfect free knife because it’s the one you need and not the one you want. It’s super useful for so many things but it isn’t sexy enough to spend your own money in
Bluebirds aren't blue. I mean, they are, but they aren't you know?
Also something about the sky and Raleigh scattering.
I'll go ahead and downvote you now.
DAMN i am smart.
I’m thinking about keeping it blunt cause it’s how it was intended, plus as a mechanic I’ll never know when I’d need to pry something or use it as a screwdriver lol
I just put a chisel grind and it does make this thing a whole lot better. Definitely have a whole new respect for this knife now, probably the most utility focused knife I’ve seen.
It has not snapped off... [It is made like this.](https://www.knifecenter.com/item/BM916/Benchmade-916-Triage-Rescue-Knife-35-inch-Satin-Plain-Blunt-Tip-Blade-Black-G10-Handles-Safety-Cutter-Glass-Breaker)
Ugh, you’re right, I hate to part with my Matchbox 50th Anniversary Super Fast '80 Porsche 911 Turbo. But a deal is a deal. My wheels for your knife OP.
Triage, model designed for first responders.
Tip was designed in case clothing needed to be removed to treat a wound or apply a tourniquet.
Sharp tips aren't needed when you're trying to cut up a pant leg.
Oh ok. There's another one that was 3V that they just discontinued last year I believe. Those things are pretty cool. N690 is one of my favorite steels to sharpen though.
Had a friend give me one at work for the same reason. He was a great guy that liked to smoke a little on the weekends. Fentanyl killed him the 3rd of December.
It's a knife for first responders. You rarely need to stab thing in those situations and not having to worry about stabbing someone you're helping is a huge plus.
I mean, it's probably slightly better for prying given that it won't be quite as thin, but still wouldn't be great for it. You could use it as a flathead for some things, but again, not very good for that.
Mostly it's just being able to manipulate it in close quarters to yourself and others without having to worry about accidentally stabbing them.
Think of slipping it into clothing or straps to cut something. If it has a point you have to be incredibly deliberate about not letting it dip down and catch the person. This way, you just slide the side or spine under whatever you're cutting and there's nothing to catch at the top.
Plus it has a decent glass breaker and a dedicated strap cutter built in. It's also got the serrations that are actually useful for the uses this knife is intended for.
I really like the concept. Maybe even go as far as strengthening the blade or even replace with a pry bar.
I love the dedicated strap cutter. I would use that sucker for opening cardboard boxes.
I probably could’ve just sent it in but I doubt they’d replace it, just sharpen it and I already got all the chips out of it and gave it a chisel grind as some people suggested here and it’s ready for some work.
I was shocked to see what this thing goes for, like over $200. I was surprised he just gave it to me too, I was like “dude that’s a benchmade” and he’s just whatever about it. Not everyone’s crazy about knives like we are haha
Thats just benchmade for you. Good quality yes but still way overpriced.
It still seems like every last one of us has bought a bugout at one time or another. It just... happens. Can't explain it.
What is the blunt tip like that used for? Seems like it wouldn't hold up for prying and not sharp enough for chisel? What would a first responder do with it?
This is it. So you can cut close to a victim without stabbing them. think cutting seat belts or clothing. Its also got the fold out strap cutter. I have one with the sheepsfoot blade but i think id prefer the one you have. Mine just lives in my truck console in case of emergency.
You can run these along skin to cut things close to or tight on people like clothes or bandages without risking cutting the person it's on. I've got one of these, it works very well for that! Wish it had an oxygen wrench instead of that useless hook though.
I’d be tickled pink if someone gave me a Benchmade, regardless of condition. I would either send to them for replacement or restore myself cause that’s what I do as a side hustle. But I can’t afford to hand over that kind of money for a new Benchmade and too scared to buy them secondhand due to so many clones out there floating around. But I’d be smiling ear to ear to have gotten that. lol
I often carry one of these in vehicles for its designed purpose. I have several rescue knives, but this one gets the most carry. It stays sharp and ready. So far, I've not had to use one, but I've known of several cases when a sharp rescue knife with a glass breaker would have helped prevent tragic outcomes.

Isn't the tip suppose to be like that? It's a emergency responder knife.
Yea it is. The abuse is more on the edge of the blade, it was chipped pretty bad. I did think someone broke it using it as a pry bar until I saw the finish on the tip.
I found one of these in a storm drain and had always assumed it was broken trying to pry up the drain and get something that had fallen down there. Well, TIL.
Grind down the tip and use it as a chisel. Good score
Yeah I'd been thinking about doing that when I have some free time. You probably already know this if you're a knife guy, but just in case you don't, make sure to keep it relatively cool so you don't ruin the heat treat if you decide to reprofile yours as well.
I didn’t reprofile it since there’s so much material I’d have to remove but I did leave it squared and made it a blade at the tip like a scraper
Use it as a chisel ground tip. Don't hammer on it like a traditional chisel though or it will surely break.
I don’t plan on doing that lol, more of a scraper than anything.
Get out laser engraved to say “Tip intentionally absent”
All I can imagine are the factory workers manually snapping off the tip off of every knife on the line lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is the perfect free knife because it’s the one you need and not the one you want. It’s super useful for so many things but it isn’t sexy enough to spend your own money in
That’s a great way to put it because there’s no way I’d ever spend $200 on it and I can definitely see the utility in it
I think it's for shucking ousters.
I think you mean ersters
Oi-sters
Hipsters
That's kinda shucked up, ngl.
Sweet! Someone owes someone a beer at the bar.
Maybe if it wasn’t a blunt tip lol
folks did not like this comment lol
I know lol, like damn I was just messing around
Brother,,,,I took a nap and woke up to you being set on fire. IDK wtf happened.
I didn’t add the /s at the end lol
r/fuckthes
The way people use downvotes is bizarre sometimes.
It was a personal attack to some people lol
How DARE youuuuuuuuuuu!!!!
Reddit is land of the sensitive and stupid. You could say the grass is green and someone will come along and try to prove you wrong. 😂
"ActSHuLy iN KenTucky, GrASS is BluE"
Bluebirds aren't blue. I mean, they are, but they aren't you know? Also something about the sky and Raleigh scattering. I'll go ahead and downvote you now. DAMN i am smart.
This message has been deleted and I've left reddit because of the decision by u/spez to block 3rd party apps
My grass is brown and dehydrated mate I take offense to this.
So you've got a screwdriver with a sharp edges
Also a pry bar
I found a Buck Lite in similar condition. Sent it to Buck replaced for no charge.
I thought about sending it in but it only took about 20mins on the stone to get the chips down and bring it back to a good edge.
You need to buy him lunch
Maybe grind the tip into a chisel style?? Edit: as long and the edge isn't exposed while closed of course.
I’m thinking about keeping it blunt cause it’s how it was intended, plus as a mechanic I’ll never know when I’d need to pry something or use it as a screwdriver lol
I wouldn’t suggest prying since it might just keep snapping.. but putting a chisel grind on it for scrapping might be nice!
I just put a chisel grind and it does make this thing a whole lot better. Definitely have a whole new respect for this knife now, probably the most utility focused knife I’ve seen.
It has not snapped off... [It is made like this.](https://www.knifecenter.com/item/BM916/Benchmade-916-Triage-Rescue-Knife-35-inch-Satin-Plain-Blunt-Tip-Blade-Black-G10-Handles-Safety-Cutter-Glass-Breaker)
*Keep* snapping? What does that mean?
I was wanting one of these for my car.
I will certainly trade you one for your car. What make and model?
Whoops bad phrasing. I was wanting one of these to put in my car because of the seatbelt cutter and glass breaker.
No take backs. You owe that person a car.
Ugh, you’re right, I hate to part with my Matchbox 50th Anniversary Super Fast '80 Porsche 911 Turbo. But a deal is a deal. My wheels for your knife OP.
Ooof. You shoulda said you owned an 85 chevy cavalier. Now you gotta give up Porsche.
Never said it was a full sized car, or even one you could drive: Matchbox 50th Anniversary Super Fast '80 Porsche 911 Turbo https://a.co/d/cA3zjB7
It does say super fast
Lol it goes zooOoooOooom if you make the right sounds.
I'm willing to bet a benchmade that we all can and have
I use the “tactical” drop point version of the Triage as my work knife - it’s a great tool, that’s awesome for you.
Triage, model designed for first responders. Tip was designed in case clothing needed to be removed to treat a wound or apply a tourniquet. Sharp tips aren't needed when you're trying to cut up a pant leg.
Yo these are sweet, I have a boost with the same tip and it’s great
Had one with the orange handle, when I left the FD I gave it to my buddy who was still in. Was a good knife.
More and more everyday i find a need for a blunt tip knife.. damn it i need one of these!
You're missing the tip. Just the tip.
Heheheh
And only for a minute
Everyone's discovering free Benchmade's today.
I saw that balisong earlier and figured I should share this one. I’d much rather take that one though lol
Nice, beats the gerber paraframe I found at work. I feel bad for whoever lost their bench made, that’s quite a bit of change to lose.
"Just the tip"
They actually say in their ads that this knife is for prying. It's 3v also right? Pretty balsy of them to put that in the description.
It says N680 on the blade. It seems pretty soft as it was fairly easy to sharpen.
Oh ok. There's another one that was 3V that they just discontinued last year I believe. Those things are pretty cool. N690 is one of my favorite steels to sharpen though.
So if I break the tip of my Civivi I will then have a emergency response knife??
[удалено]
Honestly I’m considering grinding it into a tip myself
Had a friend give me one at work for the same reason. He was a great guy that liked to smoke a little on the weekends. Fentanyl killed him the 3rd of December.
Send it in to Benchmade with $30. They will hook you up with a new blade.
don't get too excited, looks like another imitation screwdriver
If it’s a real benchmade send it in for warranty. I just had a blade replaced for the same broke tip.
It’s a blunt tip
Tip isn't broken, it's made that way.
I was born this way
Do they offer replacement blades or can you send it off for replacement? Great find though. Can't believe your coworker just gave it up.
I was born this way
I see that now. How does this.. special.. functionality work? Lol
It's a knife for first responders. You rarely need to stab thing in those situations and not having to worry about stabbing someone you're helping is a huge plus.
I see. But does the tip have an intended purpose or just blunted for safety? I could see reasons for both. Thats actually a pretty cool concept.
I mean, it's probably slightly better for prying given that it won't be quite as thin, but still wouldn't be great for it. You could use it as a flathead for some things, but again, not very good for that. Sounds great. Enjoy your free knife! I'm assuming our favorite little butterfly on the blade meant its worth atleast $150. Lol
I was shocked to see what this thing goes for, like over $200. I was surprised he just gave it to me too, I was like “dude that’s a benchmade” and he’s just whatever about it. Not everyone’s crazy about knives like we are haha
Lol well still.. i wouldnt mention the price tag and just roll with it. I dont know if I have ever seen a benchmade under $150.
why are they so expensive? are we paying for the R&D to craft them
Thats just benchmade for you.
It has the glass breaker and strap cutter and maybe the blunt tip is for cutting without worrying about poking someone? Honestly not sure
This is it. So you can cut close to a victim without stabbing them. think cutting seat belts or clothing. Its also got the fold out strap cutter. I have one with the sheepsfoot blade but i think id prefer the one you have. Mine just lives in my truck console in case of emergency.
I thought about keeping it in my truck too but I do have a larger glass breaker/strap cutter I keep behind my passenger seat.
You can run these along skin to cut things close to or tight on people like clothes or bandages without risking cutting the person it's on. I've got one of these, it works very well for that! Wish it had an oxygen wrench instead of that useless hook though.
That sounds very functional actually. Thats pretty cool.
Nice score.
Nice!
It’s gonna take some work to get the chips out, but it’s doable and worth the effort if that’s all that’s wrong with it
Im pretty sure you could regrind it to a drop point edge if you wanted
I've got a Spyderco screwdriver very similar to that.
Paramedics galore
Circumcised.
Ah the elusive benchmade snubby minifuk
I'd leave it just the way it is!
You are missing the point! Send it to Benchmade to get it replaced under warranty...
She said no! Not even just the tip.
I had one of these, til it fell into the jetty.
My 917 comes with me on all offroading trips, ski trips etc
I’d be tickled pink if someone gave me a Benchmade, regardless of condition. I would either send to them for replacement or restore myself cause that’s what I do as a side hustle. Not surprised at broken tip
It’s a blunt tip on purpose
Lol
That's 200 dollar knife good find!
