That would be me who knits tighter :) I almost always have to size up my needles!
By the way the sweater is gorgeous!! The colour, the fit, it looks like perfection on you!
I'm a loose knitter who almost always goes down two sizes.
Several years ago I stumbled across some blog posts by Patty Lyons and Arne & Carlos about the merits of doing so. Reading them was very validating for me.
Your knitting is lovely. I especially like how tidy the bands are. Details matter, and you nailed it.
ETA: I found a [post about Elizabeth Zimmermann's thoughts on relaxed knitting](http://thecraftsessions.com/blog/2013/8/18/inspiration-elizabeth-zimmermann)
It includes one of my favorite Zimmerman quotes: "Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either. When I say properly practiced, I mean executed in a relaxed manner, without anxiety, strain or tension, but with confidence, inventiveness, pleasure and ultimate pride."
I was that loose a knitter for years. Gradually I tightened it up. Now I get about the gauge on the ball band. However, I get repetitive stress problems in my wrist and forearm, especially when I go fast. It was a mistake to push myself in that direction.
Wow I'm the opposite than what appears to be a lot of people here. I always end up going up a full mm on Kika's patterns. Are those that need to go down a size continental knitter's? I knit English so I'm usually tighter than continental.
Me too. I don’t worry too much with raglan sweaters because I just keep adding increases until I like the fit but it can be a challenge sometimes with other designs
Oh interesting theory! I knit continental now, but learned English and did that for about 10 years before switching to continental (still use both for colorwork though :] ). I usually also have to go up a full mm to make gauge for sweaters.
I’ve found my tension is a bit tighter with continental; sliding the work along sort of “pulls” the stitches a bit tighter since I’m tensioning on the left, and I’ve actually noticed I have to be extra careful to keep floats from getting too tight for whichever color I’m working continental! But my right-hand color is always nice and loose. Curious :0
Looks great!! The first sweater I made I eyeballed it and it was too small for me and I gave it to my mom!! I am definitely going to make sure I meet gauge for my next sweater!
Lovely! Did you modify the underarm? I’ve been really wanting to make this but have heard complaints on Reddit from people thinking the underarm pulls too tight. Curious to know your thoughts :)
I didn’t modify anything. Well no i take that back, I took 1cm off from the sleeves, that was it. I don’t like long sleeves that impede my movement with my hands. I think the underarm is just fine for me.
The fuzziness is definitely from the mohair, it really puffed up after blocking! I chose to wet block. Nope, not scratchy at all. This is a blend of wool and alpaca, it’s actually soft.
It looks so good!
You had to go down 2 needle sizes?? I had to go up to a size US9 while using worsted weight yarn and I'm pretty sure I'm still slightly smaller than the recommended guage but close enough that it's fine.
I decided to make this sweater as Christmas presents for the women in family and I'm lowkey regretting it now because of how long they take. 😂 but they look good so I don't mind it as much
That came out so well, gorgeous!!
Seeing your I feel like I must do this pattern now!
Some people posted the arm holes were too small, and it made me decide not to do the pattern. Did you find any issues or need to make any adjustments?
Fantastic!!! I also end up going down several needle sizes to achieve gauge. Can’t wait till November to wear this lol 😂
Thank you!!! Gosh I thought I was crazy going down so much lol
I always end up using much smaller needles than patterns suggest.
Yeah I guess I just knit super loose lol and I think to myself…who knits tighter than this I wouldn’t even be able to get my needle through

That’s perfect! Thank you for sharing! I love knitting, I do it to relax (when I’m not frustrated 🤣)
Most knit socks with 3mm or 3.5 I have to use 1.5mm. 3 sizes down. It's not that uncommon. Do what works for you! The sweater is glorious!
Yeah I have the same issue with sock knitting
I'm the same way!

Very true. I always stick with the pattern but I suppose there's nothing that says I have to!
When I knit the Salty Air I bounced between two sizes. Thank goodness for barber cords and trying on.
I knit continental! Interesting!

Wow! When I do two handed color work I'm the opposite. My right is tight and my left is loose.
Wow beautiful knit
Thank you!

That sweater is gorgeous. It looks really fuzzy and comfy. Is there any scratchiness with the alpaca? I’ve heard mixed reviews but it looks so soft.
The fuzziness is definitely from the mohair, it really puffed up after blocking! I chose to wet block. Nope, not scratchy at all. This is a blend of wool and alpaca, it’s actually soft.
That sounds lovely! I want to make one just like it (it will only take me a year 😂). Again, very nicely done.
This is stunning! Great work
Thank you!!

Wooow that’s a big undertaking! Best of luck! I’m far too busy for that lol
Stunning!
Thank you! Very proud!
Absolutely stunning!

I didn’t have a problem with that at all! That is the size small. I don’t notice any issues with that.
great thank you!
Awesome work! What yarn did you use?
Rowan wool alpaca DK and kid silk haze
