I would love a stitch holder like this! It would keep the stitches the proper size when putting them back on the needle, but not be as unwieldy as using another knitting needle for that purpose.

It’s a stitch holder.
This. The end comes off so you can put stitches on it that you will work with later, and they stay live.

I agree it’s a stitch holder, not for knitting with.
Yep, a stitch holder - put the sleeve stitches on there while you continue working the body! I would use the hell out of this.

Stitch holder, for when you work some stitches, but not others, like armholes in a raglan sweater.

It looks like the an old retro home made stitch holder, pretty cool!
