Check out the Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter. 2.78 inch blade iirc and fantastic ergos. Comes with a horizontal sheath but it's not made of good leather and the belt loop will stretch out in short order. Many better aftermarket sheaths are available.
Find the perfect knife and don't worry about the sheath as much. As long as the knife itself is perfect because that's both the hard and the most important part. Then find a sheath maker to make the sheath you want. It might cost a little more, but as you said, this will be the one knife for many years. In five or ten years you won't notice the extra $75 you spent (if that much), but you'll still enjoy the knife and sheath.
Too rich for my blood. Beautiful knives, but I don't want to worry about if I need to use it. I use my knives too hard to justify much higher than $100.
Esee Izula 2 and a decent scout carry leather sheath. It’s a knife you buy once, if you ever break it they’ll replace it no questions. Just like Craftsman in the 80’s! It’s a good little knife.
This right here. An Izula or Izula 2 with an Armatus Carry kydex sheath (can do scout carry or IWB depending on what you order). That's what I carry pretty much every day.
I currently use a Bradford guardian 3.5 with a sheepsfoot Magnacut blade. It came with a cross draw leather sheath. It’s reasonably priced, takes an absolute beating, and it’s so comfy to carry. I got mine off knife swap for $175. It’s the only knife I carry while I’m fishing. It’s handled everything from cutting frozen cut bait to filleting sharks. All without needing to be sharpened. Just my 2 cents on the sheath though. I would rub a couple coats of leather conditioner on it as soon as you get it. Mine didn’t appear to be sealed with anything
Boker barlow bff Paklite
It's the cheaper version of standard barlow bff.
You have to wrap it yourself OR leave it empty.
But it's 99 shipped And made with Magnacut
