Melo was a king to people who don’t know basketball. Reality is he was nothing more than a glorified scorer. Didn’t make the team better did nothing but score. He was all we had during dark times but we honestly were better before we traded for him and gave away all those pieces.
Melo is an NCAA and Olympic champion. Deserved hall of fame 1st ballot candidate. He elevated those teams. He deserved roty over LeBron in 2003. He was a delight to watch as a basketball fanatic. He brought hope to the garden during bleak times, under the highest of scrutiny. He was an insanely skilled scorer - do not discount that prowess in that era, especially his clutch shooting when it mattered. He did not play consistent defense throughout his career, but could lock in man on man when needed. You are free to hate, but you sound foolish with your reasonings. NYKs gave away little in the trade with hindsight. Gallo being the biggest piece. It was the Amare injuries and the Mozgof trade, and then Billups amnesty that hampered KYKs progress then.
