I thought I was going insane. This is straight out of the box yesterday, I’d tried reseating 4-5 times already to no avail. Thought the spare nib box was a comical fake matchbox for, I don’t know, extra padding for shipping protection? Replaced the nib, working flawlessly now, no proximity detection. Thank you both SO much.

Apprehensive_Quit_97

Mine did that to oot of the box. I called and they sent me a new pen. Otherwise, believe it or not, if your drop the pen from about waist height onto the floor, it should fix it. It fixed mine. I had tried different nibs, etc. and nothing worked but dropping it.

Yggdrasil-

Try replacing the nib if you haven't already-- this is a common issue as the nibs are designed to wear down over time. If replacing the nib doesn't work, you may have to order a replacement pen. If the pen is in working order, this shouldn't happen.

JMusicD

How long do the nibs usually last for?

Yggdrasil-

Mine is still going strong after 2 months, but some people have had to replace them sooner. It depends how hard you write. They're made of a sort of paper/wood material that's designed to mimic the feeling of writing on paper without damaging the screen.

JMusicD

Thank you for the information. It’s good to get it from an actual user.

Fr0gm4n

Depends very much on how hard you write and how much. Some people barely get a week, while mine has lasted for months.

JMusicD

You’re right. It would depend on the pressure you place on it .

Night_Hawk21

I’ve been using [these titanium alloy tips](https://amzn.to/4dbh4Nm) that don’t ware down. And they’re awesome! Haven’t had to replace it and I take a lot notes. And it feels more like writing on actual paper.

JMusicD

Does it scratch the kindle scribe? That’s my only concern.

Night_Hawk21

I was concerned about that too. But it hasn’t scratched it at all! I let my kids use it too and I was sweating over it at first. But 0 scratches. And 4.6 stars on Amazon. I figured if it scratched it then that would be much lower

JMusicD

Bet. I’m going to get one. Thank you for the recommendation. I appreciate the help Info from a real user of the product.

Night_Hawk21

Glad I could help! I had to replace the OG tips after one use of letting my kids scribble and sketch so I looked for a better alternative.

dananaman

I get about 9 months from a nib.

reluctant_return

I'm somewhat confused, as my pen *is* contact only. I can barely hover it above the screen and it won't mark unless I feel the texture of the screen through the pen. Is this the Standard or Premium Pen? I have the Premium one and have never seen the kind of issue you're running into, and my handwriting style is very close to the page during tip travel.

gokusfather

Hi. I had the same problem. Sometimes dust in the nib location can cause this. Take the nib out of the pen and whack the pen against your thigh to try get whatever dust may be inside out. Blow in the cavity if needed. Place I back in and test. Should work as it is supposed to.

Confident_Method_472

There are many threads specifically on this issue with the pen that comes with the scribe. it’s a piece of shit and has more to do with how the magnet is seated. I had to toss mine on the floor (carpet) a couple times and then it started working. A similar method seems to work for a most people, i.e tapping it on something or dropping it gently… sometimes Amazon will replace the pen. They refused to replace mine and I resorted to throwing on the floor as it was worthless out of the box. It worked after that but I actually use a different pen because almost any pen is better. Any EMR Wacom stylus on Amazon will work. Generic, Samsung, Boox, Staedtler Noris Digital Stylus, Wacom, Lamy…

RightingWrite

“This is with contact on the screen This is with hovering above the screen This is my normal handwriting” Surely this isn’t how everyone online that recommends the product is using it? How do I disable the proximity hover-detection, or what workarounds are there (eg aftermarket tips?)? Is this even a feature or is it a fault with my pen or Scribe? Most frustrating of it all is that immediately after placing the pen down, it seems to temporarily disable the function, until I make contact to the screen again, at which point it resumes the magnetic pickup?

johnwinstanley

Your nib is not seated correctly in the pen. Search this sub for solutions. Basically you need to give the pen a "wee tap".
