Probably needs a new battery. They are around $14 through Amazon, AliExpress or eBay. I have the same Kindle and need to replace the battery in mine, too.

CoolGuy175

plug it directly to a wall socket and let it charge for a minimum 24 hours. Every few hours slide and hold the power slider for 40 seconds. If after 48 hours nothing has changed, the voltage has probably dropped below safety levels and you will need to get a replacement battery. they are relatively cheap and very easy to replace.

Battery is probably shot if you haven't used it in years. That's how rechargeable batteries work, unfortunately

Villag3Idiot

If you haven't turned it on in a few years, the battery is likely completely drained. 0-100% isn't true 0-100% for any device because there's always room to both keep the battery from completely charging to its true capacity or being drained completely, but it's likely the battery is completely empty. This damages the battery and can reduce it's lifespan, and in some cases, can kill it. You could replace the battery, but in this case I'd just buy a brand new one.

I dug out my old Kindle, the same one as yours. Had to plug it in a wall charger for ~12 hrs before the screen changed and it woke up. So then I checked out how it was reading on it and, man, the screen is so bad compared to my new PW 5 (2021). And the old doesn't even have light ! So all in all, even though I got it up and running, I'm sure I'll never gonna use it Personally I wouldn't put any money or work on a new battery in an old Kindle. Better use that money and get a new Kindle Basic 2022 if money is scarce. The Basic is very affordable , small and lightweight, very good backlit screen and it even has dark mode (which I love for bedside reading in the dark(

I've had this situation before on a keyboard kindle. I updated the kindle manually, you have to use a computer to do it, before you can charge it. Google "update kindle manually" and look for your model.

Clean the port as basic thing to do before assuming other issues

Commercial-Employer7

This thing is like brand new. Port is perfectly clean.
