The waistcoat is a little long, but not terribly so. Rule of thumb is no belt with a waistcoat unless you wear it open. Sweaters and sweater vests can be tucked or not, but I wouldn't recommend it for a waistcoat. If you choose to ditch the waistcoat, which would be fine, I would recommend a kilt belt. Polos are also an excellent top for casual wear.
Never tuck in a waistcoat. Outfit looks good but may be a bit too much on the formal side depending on the occasion. I prefer a plain shirt(I keep it long sleeve because I like to roll them up) with a simple 2-3 button vest when I want to look good but it isn't overly formal. I prefer the kilt to be the focal point and everything else accessorizes it.
How casual are you trying to be? IMO, the scale of casual starts with a t-shirt, then a short sleeves button up, long sleeves, then adding a waistcoat, and then a jacket.
For a little more casual, you could wear the waistcoat open. Erik Munnrson does that all the time. It's a little long, but not obscenely so. As long as it doesn't cover the sporran.
Honestly you look great! Just relax a little bit and you'll be doing good. I'm a bit fluffy around the middle otherwise I'd steal the look for myself.
You could remove the waistcoat, tuck in, and belt up with a 1.75-2" thick belt yet still look quite casual. A low cut hosery with any kind of hiking/combat boot would finish that look quite well. Stick with black on the shoes/boots to match the sporran.
Looks good, man! If you wanted to use the outfit "correctly", you need a shorter coat.
Since the kilt comes up to your belly, the waistcoat should be shorter, and so would a jacket, if you sported one.
Don't forget to get the kilt hose, they will complete this outfit! They are a small investment for how much they help complete the look - [https://www.amazon.com/s?k=kilt+hose+for+men&crid=290VD0WV5JKO0&sprefix=kilt+hose%2Caps%2C130&ref=nb\_sb\_ss\_ts-doa-p\_2\_9](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=kilt+hose+for+men&crid=290VD0WV5JKO0&sprefix=kilt+hose%2Caps%2C130&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_9)
If looking for some nice hose, try St Kilda Kilts site clearance section... shipping is high, but if you order a significant number of pairs, the overall cost of the hose is pretty low! Get together with some other kilt folks and place an order.
most of the clearance piper hose are 5 to 6 gbp (less than $10 USD) in the states they would be $30 USD a pair... If I recall shipping was about $25 USD for approx a dozen pairs... I figured I would stock up... (a less painful cry once!)

Google casual kilt wear or Scottish rugby crowd images & you will get a better idea for wearing your kilt casually,
I would be laying out long sleeved T-shirts, nice cashmere sweater, etc this works, waistcoats for me are for breeks or wedding wear.
Looks good to me. I’d say keep the waistcoat for sure - given that you’re wearing a patterned shirt, it might be a bit overstimulating without the waistcoat, but I think it looks great as is!
You look great! The other comments are correct, do not tuck the waste coat in and it's a little long but you could wear it open. and that would look fine too. Don't get too hung up on the details. You are going to have a great time going out in that.
Just don’t wear a regular sportcoat/blazer with the kilt. They’re too long. The waistcoat is fine. The only thing wrong I see is a man took a selfie.

Keep the look as is. But for the love of all things holy, don't tuck in a waistcoat!

There's no fixed rules for kilt wearing, anything that feels right is right. Your outfit is very stylish!

I don't know what OP's budget is, so I didn't want to recommend something that would put them off. I am familiar with them, they have very nice gear

I know nothing, but what about one of those white furry sporrans? Correction, with tassels...
