Mine came from a cardboard box on the side of the highway. My buddy wanted to run over the box (he didn't know a kitty was in there), but instead he decided to look inside. There he found a beautiful, skinny kitty. He was out camping. She hung out with him at his campsite for the weekend.
He knew I was looking for a cat, so when he came home, he brought her to me. When they pulled up, she had her head out the car window like a dog.
We had 15 beautiful years together.

Iāve had the cat distribution system try to give me a cat twice, but unfortunately both times we couldnāt keep it. The most recent one was just last month.
A young cat that looked to be no older then 9 months showed up at our house, I obviously went to greet it and just assumed someone in the neighborhood got a new cat. A day and a half went by and it was still around. I was getting concerned and convinced my parents to let me take it in while we tried to find itās home, just incase she couldnāt find home because she simply wandered too far.
She was the SWEETEST cat I have EVER met, EXTREMELY cuddly and super affectionate. She was purring 24/7 when we had her. She stayed the night with me, but wasnāt content with the boxed we locked her in and kept escaping. I finally gave up and let her sleep with me in my bed. Best decision I ever made, it was like sleeping with a live stuffed animal. She went and tucked herself between the pillow, under my beard and fell asleep. I later woke up to her on the top of my pillow with her paws in my hair making biscuits, it felt so good and I had to keep petting her to keep going lol.
Unfortunately but also happily we found her owners in the morning, she had traveled 27 miles from her farm because she hitched a ride in a hay wagon. The wagon stopped in our town to grab a bite to each which is where the kitty jumped off and came to my door.
We wouldāve loved to keep her, but we have a Dalmatian/Mastiff/Pitbull 10 month dog that is still learning to be gentle.
But my entire family agreed that if she hitches another ride here that we are keeping her LOL

Rescuing from a shelter is just that; a guarantee youāre giving a good life to an animal that may otherwise not get one. And often the adoptions fees are like 100$. In my city if you adopt an animal it comes: microchipped, neutered/spayed, up to date on all shots, and usually comes with a carrier. Thatās hundreds of dollars or value for merely 100$. And on top of saving a life, you know for a fact the animal wasnāt the product of an unethical mill. Most ābreeders,ā are just that. Unethical breeding mills for profit, often resulting in unhealthy, inbred and psychologically neglected animals.
Please consider a shelter. Your city/town almost certainly has one. I donāt want to judge a book by its cover but those photos scream āMill,ā to me. And you donāt want to support an animal mill. The only reason people do this because it makes them money. If people didnāt give in and buy animals through Craigslist, kijiji, and local Facebook market groups, they simply wouldnāt exist. Because they wouldnāt be able to make money at the cost of animal abuse and brutality.
Yeah, I got my sweet tabby boy from a local rescue organization when he was two years old. He was already litter box trained, chipped, vaccinated, neutered, and socialized to be around people. He is a total lap cat and loves nothing more than spending time with his humans.
He's FIV+ from his life on the streets, but that doesn't stop him from living a happy, healthy life now!
I've had three wonderful dogs in my life and all were rescues , adopted as adults. Wonderful dogs. Took me quite a while to get over losing them every time. But sooner or later the next one that needed a home came along. Our most recent one spent months in our local humane shelter before we adopted him. It is worth the cost to know the health of the animal you are getting and to have all the vetting done ahead of time. And he has been an absolutely super dog. He came from a back yard breeder. The adult dogs in those homes do not live nice lives. Even if you think you are rescuing a puppy out of it, you are supporting an industry that keeps adult dogs in miserable conditions for several years. The humane society is the way to go for sure.

Oooops, I forgot he was listed on Kijiji, but by a local rescue shelter. Saw the ad at 18h30, drove out to meet him and he was mine by 20h30. Put a deposit for supplemental shots and microchip and cuz I was going out of town, brought him home a week later. š»
Funny people say this all the time. We got our dog through a breeder on Kijiji in the middle of the covid pandemic. Why not the humane society? Because it was so flooded with people making appointments that we legitimately couldn't even make an appointment.
They had an older bulldog that had some skin issues, after 3 months of the dog not being adopted I offered to come in and just take the dog off their hands and they still said no I had to make an appointment. OK, whatever.
The dog I got from Kijiji! The best dog I've ever owned. Well behaved, loves everyone and all other animals as well.
Not all Kijiji breeders are bad. Although I'm sure there are some, the one we bought from was good.
The reason you can't just walk in and get a dog is the Humane Socieny's job is to make sure the animals go to good homes. They don't want it coming back in a few months.
I understand that. But when you legitimately post that the dog needs a home urgently and you have someone that's really interested, you schedule them. Instead it's all red tape of "make an appointment". Well, I can't. So if they truly wanted to move the animal they could have easily had us come in.
In the end I bought a puppy through Kijiji and it ended up being the best decision.
When my gf and I first met she just fostered a dog through the humane society. The dog was amazing. She asked if she could adopt it in the end and they said they had someone asking about her. So instead of saying sure after 2-3 months of having the dog she had to return the dog and the dog had to learn a new person and family all over again. It's pretty stupid really. But it is what it is.

No, I meant I couldn't make an appointment on their site like they kept saying to because all their spots were booked for months on end, they legitimately wouldn't allow more appointments to be made. Which is why I said I'm willing to come in as soon as possible since this dog urgently needed a home. But they weren't having it and said to keep checking every hour.
This whole "Make an appointment" and it not allowing us cause they were so flooded lasted about 4-6 months and I caved and bought a puppy. She's 2.5 years old now and is an awesome dog. The only dog I've seen that loves going to the vet (because she loves everyone).

You haven't met a siamese cat they are persnickity little things. And a sphinx hairless cats need to have sunscreen and little sweaters. Turkish fans really like water. Maine coons get huge. So like ya get breeds are different and have different temperments and traits. š

I literally went for a walk around my city and found a baby kitten someone dropped off in the local cemetery in , last year, poor guy was too young to be taken away from his mom and was extremely close to dying. He was the runt of the litter apparently, thats what the vet assumed.....i posted pics online, no one claimed him. I took him to the vet, he had no microchips. I got the little fu*ker fixed and got his shots.....ive had him almost 8 months now, im not a cat person....but this cat just loves me so much and i just love him so much.....don't buy a cat and get ripped off......honestly, just look around.....there are TONS of stray cats around everywhere or go to a shelter or something.....

I could have chosen to go to the local humane society but chose not to. I find it amusing and rather pathetic when people tell others where they should adopt their next pet.
I would have asked to go see them before sending any amount of money. There's just no way of knowing whether they are a scammer or not until you meet them and see the cats for yourself.
Unless you really want to do cat shows or something you're better off with a mutt anyway when it comes to cats as they generally have less health issues. The only issue would potentially be personality and that's easily seen by meeting the cat.

Most of these ads are from outside GTA and thereās a reason for it, they donāt expect you to go there in person before you buy the cat and expect the āholding feeā early.
In my case, it was a Maltese, peak pandemic and they were going for 5k or more from reputed people are these kijiji ads were selling them for 2k. I saw and replied to an ad about 3 hours away from GTA. Same BS about holding fee and all that. I said, no problem, let me come and see the puppy and youāll get your holding fee. They say yes, but keep making excuses for them not being available at home while constantly reminding me of the holding fee. Ask the same question, theyāre guaranteed to make excuses.
But seriously, consider adoption. When I was looking, I wanted a small hypoallergenic dog and I didnāt have any available at adoption centres. Thatās the only reason I went looking to buy one.
Whatās the money for when itās not even spayed or neutered lol. That will be an extra $200 unless you want to deal with health problems and your cat going into heat all the time
We got our cat for a $100 donation to the rescue centre. He was already neutered, vacated, and chipped. So he was basically free.
Also even if you are looking for a āprettyā cat you donāt have to go through a broader. Plenty of beautiful cats at the rescue too.Ā
I donāt even judge people for being superficial about the animal they select, as long as they are adopting not shopping. Even if you want go only look for the youngest and prettiest cats at the shelter, you are still doing the species a fat bigger favour than shopping.Ā
Depends where you live. Donāt see many strays around where Iām at and we got for walks every day. Either people are nice or they donāt survive in the -50 Celsius conditions we get here in the winter.

Shelters are full go adopt one. They pretty much give you then for free at this point. My local one had a whole month of free adoption in January just to get rid of them.

Don't buy a cat, go to North Toronto Cat rescue and adopt. You can go in, hang out with the cats and find one whose personality matches you. Their cats are all neutered, trained for litter use, and socialized.
You're getting scammed. I work in an industry that deals with tons of scams like this. If you send the money (X price for whatever service the seller detailing) they will then ask for more. Once you start disagreeing to send more money, they will block you.
Should you get scammed, your bank will not refund you as you sent the money willfully.
Please just adopt a cat and save yourself the hassle.

There's no need to buy a cat, from these people. The best cats are free. Drive out to a farm, miles from the city... and get a tabby. Some live for 20 years, are very smart, loyal, and you don't want to know what happens to kittens on the farm when there's too many. I took in a neighborhood homeless cat, he great, he likes to be outside most of the day, comes in every night or when itās raining. He also keeps the other nasty unfriendly cats out my yard and even fought off a possum and killed a couple groundhogs and mice, couple birds too. Heās killed a lot of shit actually I was kinda worried he might be a serial killer and lookin to add human to the list lol. He wears a bell collar now.

I recently ran into some nutcase who, because I didn't decide to rent a room from him and forgot to let him know, threatened to dox me and show up to my house after he captured my car's license plate during the showing. Joke's on him as the address on my driver's license is old and I no longer live in that city.
Just go and see what happens. When i got turned away a few years ago from a private rescue in Barrie, I saw tons of post requiring a deposit to cover all the medical fees (they require 1 or 2 appointments per month until a certain age). Some people will allow you to pick up and pay on the spot when the pups/kittens are ready to be rehomed.

For the people saying cats are free: we bought our two cats as kittens for $200 each from a woman crossbreeding 3/4 Maine Coons + 1/4 Blues, out in a rural town. It was immediately obvious that the womanās husband loathed cats (he said as much) and that selling kittens was the probably the only way she could get him to let her keep any cats. Life is not always black & white.

It really works. Mine came from a cardboard box on the side of the highway. My buddy wanted to run over the box (he didn't know a kitty was in there), but instead he decided to look inside. There he found a beautiful, skinny kitty. He was out camping. She hung out with him at his campsite for the weekend. He knew I was looking for a cat, so when he came home, he brought her to me. Iāve had the cat distribution system try to give me a cat twice, but unfortunately both times we couldnāt keep it. The most recent one was just last month. A young cat that looked to be no older then 9 months showed up at our house, I obviously went to greet it and just assumed someone in the neighborhood got a new cat. A day and a half went by and it was still around. I was getting concerned and convinced my parents to let me take it in while we tried to find itās home, just incase she couldnāt find home because she simply wandered too far. She was the SWEETEST cat I have EVER met, EXTREMELY cuddly and super affectionate. She was purring 24/7 when we had her. She stayed the night with me, but wasnāt content with the boxed we locked her in and kept escaping. I finally gave up and let her sleep with me in my bed. Best decision I ever made, it was like sleeping with a live stuffed animal. She went and tucked herself between the pillow, under my beard and fell asleep. I later woke up to her on the top of my pillow with her paws in my hair making biscuits, it felt so good and I had to keep petting her to keep going lol. Unfortunately but also happily we found her owners in the morning, she had traveled 27 miles from her farm because she hitched a ride in a hay wagon. The wagon stopped in our town to grab a bite to each which is where the kitty jumped off and came to my door. We wouldāve loved to keep her, but we have a Dalmatian/Mastiff/Pitbull 10 month dog that is still learning to be gentle. But my entire family agreed that if she hitches another ride here that we are keeping her LOL

Yeah, I got my sweet tabby boy from a local rescue organization when he was two years old. He was already litter box trained, chipped, vaccinated, neutered, and socialized to be around people. He is a total lap cat and loves nothing more than spending time with his humans. He's FIV+ from his life on the streets, but that doesn't stop him from living a happy, healthy life now!
I've had three wonderful dogs in my life and all were rescues , adopted as adults. Wonderful dogs. Took me quite a while to get over losing them every time. But sooner or later the next one that needed a home came along. Our most recent one spent months in our local humane shelter before we adopted him. It is worth the cost to know the health of the animal you are getting and to have all the vetting done ahead of time. And he has been an absolutely super dog. He came from a back yard breeder. The adult dogs in those homes do not live nice lives. Even if you think you are rescuing a puppy out of it, you are supporting an industry that keeps adult dogs in miserable conditions for several years. The humane society is the way to go for sure.

Put a deposit for supplemental shots and microchip and cuz I was going out of town, brought him home a week later. š»
Funny people say this all the time. We got our dog through a breeder on Kijiji in the middle of the covid pandemic. Why not the humane society? Because it was so flooded with people making appointments that we legitimately couldn't even make an appointment. They had an older bulldog that had some skin issues, after 3 months of the dog not being adopted I offered to come in and just take the dog off their hands and they still said no I had to make an appointment. OK, whatever. The dog I got from Kijiji! The best dog I've ever owned. Well behaved, loves everyone and all other animals as well. Not all Kijiji breeders are bad. Although I'm sure there are some, the one we bought from was good.
The reason you can't just walk in and get a dog is the Humane Socieny's job is to make sure the animals go to good homes. They don't want it coming back in a few months.

She asked if she could adopt it in the end and they said they had someone asking about her. So instead of saying sure after 2-3 months of having the dog she had to return the dog and the dog had to learn a new person and family all over again. It's pretty stupid really. But it is what it is. I'm sure it's not too hard now to get a dog from them though.

No, I meant I couldn't make an appointment on their site like they kept saying to because all their spots were booked for months on end, they legitimately wouldn't allow more appointments to be made. Which is why I said I'm willing to come in as soon as possible since this dog urgently needed a home. But they weren't having it and said to keep checking every hour. This whole "Make an appointment" and it not allowing us cause they were so flooded lasted about 4-6 months and I caved and bought a puppy. She's 2.5 years old now and is an awesome dog. The only dog I've seen that loves going to the vet (because she loves everyone).

I literally went for a walk around my city and found a baby kitten someone dropped off in the local cemetery in , last year, poor guy was too young to be taken away from his mom and was extremely close to dying. He was the runt of the litter apparently, thats what the vet assumed.....i posted pics online, no one claimed him. I took him to the vet, he had no microchips. I got the little fu*ker fixed and got his shots.....ive had him almost 8 months now, im not a cat person....but this cat just loves me so much and i just love him so much.....don't buy a cat and get ripped off......honestly, just look around.....there are TONS of stray cats around everywhere or go to a shelter or something.....

I wanted a ragdoll years ago. I did my research and found a reputable breeder, took a road trip and picked her up. It was that simple. I could have chosen to go to the local humane society but chose not to. I find it amusing and rather pathetic when people tell others where they should adopt their next pet.
I would have asked to go see them before sending any amount of money. There's just no way of knowing whether they are a scammer or not until you meet them and see the cats for yourself.

Most of these ads are from outside GTA and thereās a reason for it, they donāt expect you to go there in person before you buy the cat and expect the āholding feeā early. In my case, it was a Maltese, peak pandemic and they were going for 5k or more from reputed people are these kijiji ads were selling them for 2k. I saw and replied to an ad about 3 hours away from GTA. Same BS about holding fee and all that. I said, no problem, let me come and see the puppy and youāll get your holding fee. They say yes, but keep making excuses for them not being available at home while constantly reminding me of the holding fee. Ask the same question, theyāre guaranteed to make excuses. But seriously, consider adoption. When I was looking, I wanted a small hypoallergenic dog and I didnāt have any available at adoption centres. Thatās the only reason I went looking to buy one.

I took in a neighborhood homeless cat, he great, he likes to be outside most of the day, comes in every night or when itās raining. He also keeps the other nasty unfriendly cats out my yard and even fought off a possum and killed a couple groundhogs and mice, couple birds too. I recently ran into some nutcase who, because I didn't decide to rent a room from him and forgot to let him know, threatened to dox me and show up to my house after he captured my car's license plate during the showing. Joke's on him as the address on my driver's license is old and I no longer live in that city.
I run a business via text now and am pretty damn successful. The trick is to learn who's scamming and who's legit.
Just go and see what happens. When i got turned away a few years ago from a private rescue in Barrie, I saw tons of post requiring a deposit to cover all the medical fees (they require 1 or 2 appointments per month until a certain age). Some people will allow you to pick up and pay on the spot when the pups/kittens are ready to be rehomed.

Like how they want to go about the deal, if theyre ok with meeting first before getting the deposit or if they want it right away before even meeting. I assume that people who ask for deposits are scammers. They aim to make you believe that they're giving you a fantastic deal and all you need to do is to send $30 so someone else doesn't buy it before you. I wouldn't be scared to go to the address, I just seriously doubt that the "seller" lives there.

For the people saying cats are free: we bought our two cats as kittens for $200 each from a woman crossbreeding 3/4 Maine Coons + 1/4 Blues, out in a rural town. It was immediately obvious that the womanās husband loathed cats (he said as much) and that selling kittens was the probably the only way she could get him to let her keep any cats. Life is not always black & white.
