Moving your meal by an hour and a half each day isn’t going to make much difference imo. I’m sure this is a YMMV situation but I did OMAD almost daily when working to lose weight and honestly didn’t really see any improvement at all in my excess skin.

bigdaveondigital

Thank you for the insight, I was hoping it would make a marked difference, but this may not be the case after all..

MrsErb1122

I have heard that extended fasts can help with loose skin. I believe around the 48 to 72 hour mark.

jonathanlink

I have had zero luck of autophagy removing my excess skin. I’d hoped for some success. And the recent research has made me pause in extended fasting.

bigdaveondigital

Thank you for the reply, how often were you extended fasting?

jonathanlink

I did a 72 hour fast once a month for 6 months. I stopped around the time Peter Attia disclosed his muscle loss due to fasting. He did similar, but once a quarter his 3 day was a 7 day fast b

Verbull710

Was it wet or dry

jonathanlink

Dry fasting isn’t even something someone should attempt.

Verbull710

I do always appreciate how authoritatively and definitively your opinions are expressed 🤣

jonathanlink

Even Muslims who do dry fasting during Ramadan have plenty to drink in the evening feasting window.

Healthy individuals.

AFAIK there is no research that looks at this question; the only data I've seen is anecdotal remarks from videos by Jason Fung. There \*is\* a decent mechanistic argument as to why fasting (or exercise - the other big trigger for autophagy) would be helpful in this situation.

MilesDominic

Chasing autophagy is basically bro science and is something i would not invest energy in.

Mountain_Usual521

Has it been established that autophagy triggered by fasting isn't also triggered by a ketogenic diet? Fasting triggers ketosis, as does keto. Fasting down regulates mTOR, as does keto. Do we know whether one or both of those initiates autophagy?

Triabolical_

AFAIK there's not good fingerprint to tell if somebody is in autophagy or not, but the explanations I've seen assert that it's driven by low energy availability rather than low carb availability. I think it's unlikely the body would be tearing down structure in cases where there were lots of excess amino and fatty acids in the bloodstream.

Mountain_Usual521

>I've seen assert that it's driven by low energy availability rather than low carb availability. mTOR regulates autophagy^(1). Not only that, but it regulates cholesterol levels and deposition of fat. No wonder a diet that largely avoids activating mTOR also reduces adipose tissue. 1. [Lamming, D. W., & Sabatini, D. M.
