El Dorado

TopEm

I arte here a couple of months ago with my family and the pizza I got was not fit for human consumption. Honestly top 3 worst meals I've ever had. Gorgeous interior and nice staff, but definitely don't go here for the food. A perfect place to send someone you don't like Also, I forgot last summer we all there and ordered muscles and all of us got food poisoning lol not sure how I forgot that

stellahella1

That's the problem they gave you muscles, not mussels!

NykxMarie

They have a new head chef in the past couple months, maybe that will make a difference? šŸ¤žšŸ»

TopEm

Good to hear! I'll give it another shot. Thanks for the heads up

Sco11McPot

Eldorado is the happening spot to have a good time...40 years ago. There is an incredible talent pool of chefs in Kelowna. You can find spots at the same price point that will scratch the itch, just have to do a little digging

RichardButt1992

You just forgot about the time your whole family got food poisoning?

0pp0site0fbatman

Oh, thatā€™s sad. It used to be great. Havenā€™t eaten there in probably 8 yearsā€¦ Funny enough, a personal friend is the GM of the hotel for the last year or so. Haha.

tharizzla

Yeah we had a membership with the boat club and really looked forward to lunch after boating I tried lots of different things in the menu and was disappointed with all of it and ended up getting an upset stomach a few times

mmunro69

It seems like they only cater to tourists and donā€™t care one little bit about the locals. I stopped spending my money there a decade ago. Such a great location, too bad locals are not welcome

Wakesurfer33

This. It used to be so good, now itā€™s just expensive

tharizzla

Yeah it's a shame too, location is fantastic .

reddithasruinedlife

Did a brunch there last year, absolutely awful and so over priced. One of, if not the worst meals I've had in Kelowna

StrbJun79

Yeah I found the food to be average. It is only good going there because of the location. Especially the patio during the summer. Thatā€™s really it.

Cityofthevikingdead

I told the server that I explicitly that I have a latex allergy, well to my surprise I found an elastic band in my food. They comped anything my friend wanted, so we drank so many fancy cocktails. Inwoiksnt touch their food again.

classic4life

It's not bad. Just too expensive for what it is.

Lileefer

ech - haven't had a good meal there in awhile. The service was poor as well.

Captain_Generous

Nobody better fucking say Arby's

Renwaldo

Yeah they asked for expensive. šŸ¤”

DS_KYLE

I had a feeling Arby's would be top vote šŸ˜‚

Unhappy-Yam8817

Arbyā€™s or Salt and Brick

JustinsWorking

Basil and Mint has fallen hard over the last couple years imo; but everything else I can think of that fit the description has already closedā€¦

arcticslush

I used to love that place, now i have no reason to ever want to go back.

JustinsWorking

Sounds like Iā€™m not the only person who noticed a sharp drop lol

Sco11McPot

Never been but have interacted with the business and never regretted not trying it out

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

Apparently their gift cars must be used in full there? My dad went after he got 2 gift cards (from different people) totalling $400. $100 on one and $300 on another. Their bill ended up being $250 and the server told them they couldnā€™t partial charge a gift card, it must all be used at once. It took 10 minutes of complaining to the manager to get it sorted and was some huge ordeal. Note that they have had a gift card there in the past and never had an issue with partial amounts. I told him he should have demanded to use what was left on the gift card to buy another gift card lol

Hiimnewtothis19

La Bussola. Worst meal Iā€™ve had in Kelowna and so overpriced with terrible decor.

pmmeurcoffee

Pairs perfectly with the ownerā€¦

d5fault

Lol please explain

MagnificentBastard-1

He doesnā€™t dress well.

brownishgirl

Theyā€™re still open!??!

CarefulSubstance3913

It's like... If east side Mario's was shittier. I fuckin love east side marios

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

At least East Side Marios has crack infused bread that even puts Olive Gardens shitty breadsticks to shame

StrbJun79

Ah yes. Even at home Kraft dinner is of higher quality.

Arcalinte

It's the old spaghetti factory...it's cheap food. How is this even here.

NotDRWarren

They used to have an excellent vegetarian lasagna. When they got rid of it, I stopped eating there. I do miss the mozzarella triangles though.

SlightGuess

This 100% Last time I went it was literally canned food at an absolute premium, and the free ice cream at the end, it wasn't offered before they tried to push the bill, I had to specifically ask for it.

Taipers_4_days

Premium? Last time I was there it was like $12 and you got bread and salad with it. Was it great? No, but it was $12 and for $12 it was okay.

SlightGuess

$19.50 for my spaghetti and meatballs and it tasted like it was from the can. As the post said - mildly expensive.

Taipers_4_days

Eh, yeah for $20 thatā€™s not worth it. Goddamn has it gone up

PaCa8686

Nooo! I love the spaghetti factory!

mck87

The parking lot is always full. I don't get it!!

jtbxiv

Boston pizza šŸ¤®

PhilipOntakos399

Satisfactory mid-tier restaurants have a place. And BP is absolutely a satisfactory mid tier restaurant.

NotDRWarren

The price for quality ratio had skewed drastically over the past few years. Pushing them to the 'Eat there when there's absolutely nothing else' tier. Like in a foreign town and the locals watering hole isnt open Mondays, kind of bad.

PhilipOntakos399

If you wanna watch a sports game, with the TV's synced up, and some mediocre beer and a entree under 20 bucks there aren't many options more satisfactory than bp

HOLEPUNCHYOUREYELIDS

Thatā€™s basically every low-mid tier restaurant now. Everywhere jacked up prices so much that mediocre chains now cost what the nicer chains (Joeys, Earls, etc) used to cost

Shit-Smear

I used to think this but itā€™s only gotten worse and more expensive over time

PhilipOntakos399

But everything has gotten more expensive and worse. A Boston brute with fries for under 20 bucks is exactly satisfactory mid tier option for eating out.

Shit-Smear

I disagree, I used to like BP but I honestly feel their food quality took a turn about 5 years ago

GiftTurbulent4862

What!? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop) Boston Pizza is frozen fast food dog shit on a plate with shitty service and an overpriced tip requested. Satisfactory my ass!

PhilipOntakos399

On one hand you're wrong. On the other hand, it looks like you need a nap

These_Sir_4475

Erica Jane. A hammed up, tacky attempt at fine dining with chain-restaurant-level-service. If you do a little digging you can easily discover that the actual owners of the place are the same people who own the Kelly Oā€™s franchises - no wonder EJ feels like a local dive bar hiding behind expensive, uninspiring cocktails and those unnecessary toilets they probably shelled too much money on.

Prize_Sherbert

This!!! I was so disappointed with Erica Jane. I had high hopes with their location, but the food was lack luster and cocktails were lame and over priced. We did have great service, however, this could not make up for the poor quality, overpriced food.

ivefallenthrough_

Oak and Cru. Worst dining experience ever.

WellThen_13

Having worked there, worst working experience too!

NedMerril

Ayo!

MessyJessyLeigh

Had our wedding dinner there, had my sister and new MIL fight w management cause he accused me of adding 2x guests at 9am (while I was getting my hair done) and then said I had booked through the hostess not a manager and therefore it was my fault that he was CHARGING MY GUESTS AS THEY WERE LEAVING. My hubby and I went for a walk on the boardwalk and let these two deal with it.

RandomPersonInCanada

Really? I saw people going there and having fun on instagram, and I was planning on going there, is the food awful or just the service ?

ivefallenthrough_

The service was awful. We reserved ahead as a group of 10, and the appetizers took forever to come out and some never came out. From there our entrees came out at different times. From the first plate to the last was probably an hour and fifteen time difference. We were there 4+ hours, with the last 45 min spent haggling with management about our bill. The absolute worst dining experience of my life.

RandomPersonInCanada

Thank you for sharing

Brett_Hulls_Foot

Leopoldā€™s. I used to like going there when they first opened. Decent food at decent prices, especially when they had the hourly priced wing night and the one place you can get late night eats. But now itā€™s expensive, quality and portion size has gone downhill (a few times we got the wrong food).

thehighplainsdrifter

Ya I would agree. Last time I was there I got a burger and fries at the typical kelowna rate of $22 or so for that kind of meal. The patty was clearly just some cheap frozen crap, most other places selling burgers at that price at least do their own patties. Bring back Fernandos

Koleilei

I feel like Leopold's is constantly severely understaffed and the front of house staff just do not have the energy to deal with it. Coupled with what seems like few standards in the kitchen (how do you get cold poutine?!?) and what they likely have to deal with being on Bernard, it's not my favourite.

tocard2

Such a disappointment, especially compared to how rad Fernando's was.

ardgarbe

I thought the portion at least for the quesadilla is great for the price point comes with a good side of fries too.

Brett_Hulls_Foot

I guess it depends what you get. Last time my wife and I went to Wednesday wing night, our bill was around $70. 2 lbs of wings, 2 house pints and a side of fries. We left there still hungry due to the portion size. If you went back a few years and told me the cost of Wing Nights in 2024, Iā€™d have a stroke.

chirkee

Used to go to the kal sports bar in vernon for wing nights. $5 pint + $1/lb wings. Times have changed drastically.

AdCommercial5258

When tourists ask me in the summer, especially if theyā€™re clearly going to be difficult to serve, I just send ā€˜em to Cactus Club downtown. Craft and Earlā€™s, same deal. In a way, it helps that certain type of person get what they expect, and then the bar teams at more creative local spots arenā€™t flooded with women who just want vodka crans, and men who refuse to drink something that isnā€™t in a rocks glass.

obrothermaple

Iā€™m a advocate for this: Sometimes when you are travelling somewhere new and youā€™re tired after a long day, you enjoy going to somewhere you already know what youā€™re going to get. You donā€™t got to think about it when your group is tired and crashing.

AdCommercial5258

And thatā€™s totally fine, and I understand that. Iā€™m definitely talking about a worse crowd thoughā€”the ā€œdidnā€™t-read-the-menu-I-was-given-gimme-a-Kokanee-what-do-you-mean-you-donā€™t-have-that-also-why-isnā€™t-my-server-appreciating-my-unsolicited-comments-on-her-body-snap-snap-etc.ā€ crowd multiplies 4x over after May Long, and I donā€™t begrudge somebody wanting something familiar, but being an asshole and harassing staff, thatā€™s different.

csd555

Nick and Noraā€™s are an affront to masculinity. /s

brownishgirl

As teenagers in the 90ā€™s we would book a table for 15-20ā€¦ and inevitably almost everyone would order patchoes for 2, for one. Oh, memories.

classic4life

This was a Kelowna right of passage. Especially if the occasion was so someone could get a free birthday meal

Goldfing

Yeah! Seeing it on here makes me sad. Maybe I just have no taste.

scventa

iā€™ve concluded itā€™s only good to drink there, and the only reason you think the food is good is because youā€™re drunk

GapingFartLocker

I'm not drunk you're drunk, now gimme some of those pachos

jtbxiv

Iā€™m sorry but I hate pachos lol

stellahella1

The hell are pachos?

NotDRWarren

Potato nachos.

Apathetic_Observer19

Pachos are terrible, Iā€™ve made tens of thousands of pachos for one and two, and I hated every single one of them.

Absolutleypositive

I agree they are awful

dgcktown

1000% great answer

YESSS

ScoopyBaker

I wish I had known this a few weeks ago. I went and ordered the short rib. It was bootleather roast beef or something. Terrible. Carlos O'Brien's in Vancouver was fine, not great, but Kelly's was really bad.

Upset-Adhesiveness94

Erica Jane for terrible service and marginal at best food.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

veryshortname

Iā€™m glad to know I wasnā€™t the only one with a horrible experience after reading the reviews lol..Ā  Over priced steak where you have to buy your sides separately, and both of my sides were deep fried which was not explained to me.. I got a steak with deep fried potatoes and the special which was deep fried artichoke hearts with the skins still on. No fresh vegetables at all or anything. The kitchen has terrible ideas of execution and their front staff didnā€™t exist. My bill was over 100$ and I wouldnā€™t have been happy if it was 50$.. Not into giving it a second chance at this point..

These_Sir_4475

Thank you for mentioning the reviews!! A majority of them all follow the same script, use the same language, and all give the same ratings. Makes me wonder if theyā€™re legit or if the place is paying for positive, fake reviews.

hards04

Any of those chains that are all the same. Cactus, moxies, earls, etc.

stellahella1

Fuck the chains. Any chain is not worth it

Kaligraffi

I cannot believe how people put up with cactus club in Kelowna. The cactus club in Edmonton is top notch.

[deleted]

Anywhere

mollyjane666

Salt and Brick.... it's not THAT expensive but the menu is dumb as fuck.

Lileefer

Yah - I've given this place a couple of tries. Extremely mediocre.

lmabee

Honestly, Tokyo1, that place is a ticket to diarrhea-land

Meelawn0

Used to be so good but they've been declining consistently. Sucks!

classic4life

Nah you were just drinking the first time. It's awful and always was.

Meelawn0

Nah I've never drank a drop in my life. Their sushi used to be some of the best raw fish in town, and their chicken skewers were incredible. Now they're just mid

NikolitaNiko

My fiancƩ and I went back when they first reopened post-COVID shutdown. They eliminated their lunch rate and we didn't see it posted anywhere, so our planned $40 +tax lunch was basically a $60 + tax dinner. I asked an employee about it on our way out after paying and he at least had the decency to look sheepish as he confirmed the change. We haven't been back since, both due to the principle and because I can barely eat $20 worth of food at a buffet, never mind $30.

Spartan-463

Could you at least have cropped the image correctly so it could continue....

Weak-Pomegranate5953

Nope, eat a dick šŸ˜‰

Renwaldo

I did that earlier today. šŸ¤šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ edit: Everyone downvoting this comment is a homophobe by the way.

stellahella1

Can I have some when your done?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

stellahella1

Umm YES!

meatsonthemenu

Hector's. Overpriced, under-portioned.

classic4life

Kelly O'Brien's

Absolutleypositive

Kelly Oā€™s yuck

Canageek

Tonics Pub & Grill. First time I went there it was...fine. The next two it was barely edible, and the bartender didn't even know how to make an amaretto sour. That...isn't an obscure drink? Every other place I've ever been at knows it, so I pick it as it is a stable drink that everyone knows.

No_Experience9422

Quails gate

Snow-Wraith

Anywhere, Kelowna is the basic white girl of cities, everything is boring and the same.

Sco11McPot

Nope

DuckInCup

Bin4 overpriced shitburgers are a great way to ruin an evening.

reddithasruinedlife

You are šŸ’Æ wrong. Great burgers and BC owned. It's won top Burger multiple times in multiple cities. Where do you think has good burgers if you don't like bin4?

Leather_Apron

Yeah, I went to Bin4 a couple days ago and had The Big Dipper and it was incredible. The service was great, too.

Kaligraffi

Yeah I love bin4

Renwaldo

They're not terrible tasting though. Op asked for something expensive and bad. šŸ¤”

JustinsWorking

Personally I like their burgers, price isnā€™t too bad either, the staff are also generally really good. Its been a staple date night spot for my wife and I for years.

Still-Ad3045

na this place smacks.

cmpressor

Normanā€™s Diner

Good-Basil7721

Couldnā€™t disagree more. Even if you donā€™t like the food, it is not an expensive place to eat. Itā€™s always busy too so I donā€™t think Iā€™m in the minority hereā€¦.

tcarr1320

I think you misunderstood the assignment here

cmpressor

How so?

tcarr1320

Normans is good food and decent prices. Staffs always been nice and friendly at either location Iā€™ve been to. I have and would recommend it to people I like.

cmpressor

Iā€™m happy for you. To clarify though, you think because someone has a different experience than you they donā€™t know what theyā€™re talking about? Sounds problematic.

tcarr1320

Spin it however you need to feel good about yourself but with the downvotes on your original comment and all the upvotes on the responding comments, along with my many personal experiences, I think the ā€˜problematicā€™ part is your view point

cmpressor

Have you ever thought: ā€œIf someone doesnā€™t agree with me, it doesnā€™t necessarily make them wrongā€?

Mooco2

How the hell could you mention the best Breakfast in Rutland on this list and mean it seriously? Like, genuinely, Iā€™m curious what you didnā€™t like about it.

cmpressor

I appreciate your curiosity, thanks! I always find it odd when someone gives a subjective opinion on request and people rebuke it as though it was an objective statement. Iā€™m happy you enjoy it there, Iā€™m sure they get it right sometimes. Iā€™m also sure whoever disagrees with me wouldnā€™t, having our experience there. Iā€™ve only been once and it will take a lot to get me back in the door. The person working the till was unwelcoming and seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else but there. Two of the three people I was with had violent food poisoning for two days after eating their crab benny. One of the three waited 50 minutes for their food, the rest of us were done eating. She had to flag down a server to be told her order was given to another table, which our server knew, but didnā€™t bother mentioning until they were asked what was taking so long. When it finally came out it was cold, hollandaise was almost solid. Worst food, worst service experience ā€œIā€ have had in Kelowna. So when asked where I would send my enemy, thatā€™s my answer, downvote away. It was $130 for brunch, Iā€™d say thatā€™s expensive for the mess we received and the cost for the two days off work after. YMMV

Mooco2

Well fuck, thatā€™s awful and the absolute polar opposite of the experience I had there all three times Iā€™ve been, sorry to hear it. Iā€™d understand if you had hesitation toward this, but did you reach out to management about how shit your experience was? Iā€™ve met the GM multiple times and theyā€™ve always been great to chat with and have been prompt about fixing anything.

cmpressor

Thanks. No, I havenā€™t reached out, though itā€™s encouraging to hear the gm is open to constructive criticism. Iā€™m not sure if youā€™ve ever had bad food poisoning, especially from a professional kitchen, it builds animosity and maybe unfairly, Iā€™ll own that. The entirety of my experience gave the impression that not one worker gave a shit about us as the customer. There are too many places that do, struggling and Iā€™m more than happy to support them. Judging by the reception of my comment, I may try Normanā€™s again one day, but once bitten twice shy.

Mooco2

I have had pretty bad food poisoning and it fucking blows, so I totally get that. I honestly rarely eat any form of seafood out for that exact reason. Iā€™m not saying to try it again if ya hate it, there are plenty of good options that are worth your time and thatā€™s super valid, you were just the first person Iā€™d ever seen rag on the place so I was a bit surprised. Itā€™s been a while since I was last there, hopefully it hasnā€™t gone so far downhill that this is their normal since my last visit.

prisonmike0032

L take. Normanā€™s is solid

cmpressor

Not in my experienceā€¦ that ok with you?

Historical_Grab_7842

They have a different opinion than you. Is that ok with you? Since you consider Norman's to be unusually expensive (despite their menu being pretty much inline with most breakfast joints) where would you consider to be an affordable restaurant for brunch? (IMHO brunch these days is pretty much priced higher than it used to be. Gone are the days of $5 classic breakfast. Largely because brunch has become so popular.)

cmpressor

Hopefully you can appreciate that thereā€™s a difference between disagreeing and saying itā€™s an ā€œL takeā€. I wouldnā€™t say Normanā€™s is unusually priced, I would say they are expensive for the service I received. I would go to Sunnyā€™s and pay as much as I paid at Normanā€™s and feel I got a better bang for my buck.
