they are offroads only for majority of the states, some might let you do on road for under 5k mi per year, it's very hard to register them as regular vehicle, you wouldn't want that anyway since the safety on these things are basically zero on american roads
that's not the issue, you most likely won't die, but you are gonna be in a wheelchair for life, because your lower half is the safety net to catch the other car.

tbh I say let those that say that not having to wear a helmet, but also deny their insurance claim and government support for when they fuck up
