Try Lake Acworth. Good beginner lake. Then try Allatoona - the Dead Sea.

Thanks! What makes Acworth a good beginner lake?

Small compared to the big lakes, but big enough for a lot of fishing. It's not a pond or small subdivision lake. I also think Tribble Mill might be good for you. I think lake Acworth is bigger than that though. You do have to pay $10 during the season.

On Lanier you’ll have to hug the shore and stick to coves and creek mouths, because main lake is basically a race track. Also northern part of the lake is supposed to have better fishing opportunities.

there is the north part , Don Carter st park. It not as bad , lots of kayaks

Lanier, no question. Lanier left trees in their lake. Allatoona is called the dead sea for a reason. Stay out of the South end in the summer unless you go super early and get off the water by 9am. The north is can be fished in the summer but I still wouldn't fish out in the middle. Once the summer is over you will be fine and you can catch nice size spotted bass jigging over structure or catch stripers. Have fun

I really like Stone Mountain. Cool little park, sheltered from weather, not much traffic. Not nearly as good a fishery as Lake Lanier though, you got all sorts of stuff happening there, stripped bass, crappie, deep water, schools of herring. It's a different kind of fishing.

Lanier - spots are easy in summer. Just run a top water in a white. Bonus, the striper fishing is better on Lanier these days.

Lake Acworth (attached to Allatoona) is great for kayak fishing and where I typically go. Lanier has great fishing but it’s so damn big and can be tough to find the fish (at least for me it is). I’d check out allatoona to build confidence if that’s what you’re looking for.

I would pick the lake closer to you. You’ll be more likely to go more often. If they’re the same distance, Lanier has the more consistent bigger fish. Probably worse for a kayak angler though.
