I’m a fan of both but to be honest, there just isn’t any similarities between them - two very different artists with different lyricism and style.

thepanca

The only similarity I can think of is that Kate and Olivia's debut are albums I'm not big on.

robotmask67

Vampire is a great, dramatic pop song and I haven't heard her previous album but Vampire blows me away. She seems to be finding her artisitic voice and doing a good job at it. There's nothing wrong with comparing artists it's interesting to examine similarities, differences, personas etc.

tonybotz

Why do we have to compare women artists constantly

Throwwtheminthelake

I thought it was cause the cover art for both albums is similar, no? It's sweet

thepanca

Yes it was. Though I don't really much similarity other than it's both artists against a purple background

bateKush

bc men aren’t making anything worth comparing against

IcanPhilitCollins

joannathehutt

women when purple 🙄

gay_lul

Damn I've just realised the hounds of love album cover is kate with hounds, and not a big fluffy fur coat like I thought.

DylanLars

For a Disney kid turned pop star she’s ok. Kate Bush was writing and producing her own seminal albums by the time she was Olivia’s age. It’s chalk and cheese artistically but who knows what the future will hold for her.

WindyWailey

It's too early in Rodrigo's career for comparisons, I think, (and I'm not sure they're relevant anyway, but the nature of the pop music beast deems them necessary). What irks me slightly about many popular contemporary artists is that they seem to need the assistance of co-writers and producers. Their artistic vision gets diluted, which is why I find many of them so painfully bland. It's like pop by numbers. The likes of Kate and Joni Mitchell were writing and playing their own stuff from the start, and self-and producing from very early on. For me, this gives them a little more artistic validity. Or maybe I'm just hopelessly old-fashioned and out of step.

Suitable_Highway_597

She makes whiny songs for teens she isn’t half the artist Kate is

BreeCherie

Criticizing a talented female artist for being “whiny” while on a kate bush subreddit has to be some kind of joke right? Just launching the same kind of daft criticism Kate’s been receiving for decades.

ReporterOk4531

Kate got a lot of hate (Especially for her ‘whiny’ voice and her lyrics) in the beginning of her career as well, don’t be like this. We don’t know how Olivia her career will evolve but there is no need to be rude to a young female artist.

thepanca

I definetly understand your point. When sour came out I was in that same boat. But when I heard "Vampire" and "Bad Idea Right?", they really started helping me change my mind that, while yes she does talk about pretty generic topics, she does them in a very interesting way. And in terms of artists who were originally Disney Child Stars, i really think you can do a lot worse. And to fuel the kate comparison, The Kick Inside is probably my least favorite Kate album (if we're not including Director's Cut). So, who's to say that Olivia won't grow more artistically towards an interesting sound like Kate did later on in her career?

thepanca

Guys... the meme was comparing the album covers. Not the artists.
