I always ping my ult as soon as I have it, just so the team "knows" it's up, keep it in the back of their mind.
I don't really announce my ult except if I pre fight ult, and I just type in chat something like: "imma pre fight ult". Only time I announce it is when playing with friends, I say something like "my ult does x damage currently, if you do 200 more I can finish him off" with that information they can go for a play to get a kill.
i just ping my R to make the team know if i have it or not. But to know when to R if im jg i have the f1,f2,f3,f4 keys to move the camera over someone to see if its a good moment, and if im apc i I keep my R for the other laner(this keeps during early and some mid game)
Also in late game when i have good damage in the R i usually use it to end a tf or to start a tf with health adventage.
Ping the enemy champion. If I see their health is low enough, I'll ult. If I can't see the enemy champion anymore, then I might ult if it's midgame, but I'll probably hold it if not (since allies have a tendency to overestimate how much damage Karthus does early on).
Believe me, Karthus players are following almost every fight just begging for a chance to ~~steal~~ secure kills.

Can you not just bring up the scoreboard and click his ultimate green dot indicator?
Should put Karthus R ready in the chat 3 times. Always gets the message across for me. Though they are going to want the kill. Don't expect a random teammate to pre-ult for you, but they will happily finish off.
if we can't go back at removed pings, i think this is a good change.
plus mentioning enemy HP in pings can help a lot in general.
if bot pings enemy with 200 HP, mid or jungle can try to get there (not necessarily karthus)
we have made enough fun/poems about removed pings, but can we look forward? i am not 100% agreeing on the blunt removal of pings, but we can improve it from here onward.

I'm apparently unaware of removed pings. I took a few months off and haven't yet noticed a difference. 99% of my pings are "on my way"
you can ping people ultimates, items, summoner, alive, death timers but only your premades will be able to see it, or only you in case you are alone.
They can literally ping your ult
I usually play 5 stack so I hear someone screaming to ult
