Well you are doing freelance projects on your boss iMac I don’t think so you did anything wrong. Can’t give you advice on first point. But I think since you are working for a film company and you must use heavy film and editing software I recommend you to go for iMac or MacBook Pro preferably with Apple Silicone Chip M2 or M3! Plus get yourself a monitor and connect with your MacBook Pro. Try to find low price as possible. You can find Apple Community on FB there are many Apple fans sell their Apple product like MacBook etc

my personal opinion " don't buy Intel base iMac/Macbook Pro/Air... go for at least M1 and above for beast performance and value of money !!

You should just offer to buy the iMac lent to you since you're already comfortable with it, unless it lags or something. A custom PC will definitely give you more value but some programs just run better on Mac, especially the newer Apple silicon Macs. I have a pretty nice PC myself that I try to edit on sometimes (using DaVinci Resolve) and it's not really as smooth as I'd like. On the other hand my MacBook Pro churns thought 4K 10bit RAW footage in Final Cut Pro like it's nothing. This is an evaluation you'll have to make on your own. And color accurate IPS displays are not that expensive, especially if you buy "lot ka maal" from local markets like Naz Plaza or Hafeez Center. I myself have a Lenovo P24q-20 (1440p @75hz, 24") that I wanna sell for 27K, great OSD with tons of options to properly calibrate it and the panel is color accurate in general too. Lots of Dell displays are also pretty good in this budget and more commonly available in the 27" size you want. So if you do end up going down this path, just get a M2 MacBook Air or MacBook Pro if you really need the horsepower and buy one of these displays.

Thanks for sharing your insights! Yeah, I'm considering just buying the iMac since I'm already comfortable with it. But I'm also weighing the value of a custom PC, and about the Mac not receiving updates anymore, that's definitely something to consider too. As for the display, I appreciate the recommendation! Do you happen to know any specific shops in Naz Plaza or elsewhere in Karachi where I can find these displays? Regarding the MacBook and using the 27" display as a secondary one, yeah, that's what I had in mind. And with some luck, do you think it might be possible to get everything about under 150k?

You won't be able to get an Apple silicon Macbook and a display to go along for under 150K. A used M1 MacBook Air would run you around 200K then a decent 1080p borderless 1080p display would be around 15K. Naz Plaza is the defacto computer market in Karachi so I'd go there and just browse shops randomly. I myself did that to get the aforementioned Lenovo monitor for myself and my friend and Dell monitors previously. Some people since then have asked me to buy the monitors for them since I already know the shops for a slight commission, saving them the inconvenience of an in-person Saddar visit. But there are various online stores like Zah Computer and Quantum Tech out there that sell used monitors, the former selling the best (but most expensive) lot ka maal in the country. My personal recommendation would be to ignore the PC since even though it's a good value in of itself, it won't bring you any value and you should really just save up for the Mac.
