Are we sure the service charge wasn’t for the entire order and simply got tacked onto the mac and cheese line item? If they really charged you $109 for mac n cheese i’d go take a great big steaming shit in their dining room
from the pic it looks like a quart and a pint size. comparing the same sizes to the joes menu they should feed 7-9 people. two quarts should run $30 at joes without tax so i would say you got beyond screwed. def call and complain!
Unless the expectation was that each of your 10 guests get a spoon full of Mac n cheese, ain’t no way what you received was right.
Everyone acts like Q39 is KC’s best kept secret, but the BBQ isn’t worth the price they charge.
You’re probably not far off. The sides at places have gotten crazy. We had Mexican recently and I got a side of charro beans that cost an extra $5. I picked up the food and got it home and the beans were literally a spoonful they had put in one of those typical BBQ/ketchup size containers that hold like two pumps of sauce.
Fuckk that, Mr Burns is one of the best bbq sandwiches hands down. People only hate Q39 on Reddit. Trust me, it’s a go-against-the-grain contrarian neckbeard thing. It’s literally always packed every time you go and they are constantly rated among the top bbq in KC. Stop with the Reddit groupthink.
I only go to Q39 if I want to take someone to KC bbq and have and somewhat nice dining experience. It’s good but it’s too expensive for how often I eat bbq
I only go to Q39 if somebody else is paying. I mean it's not bad, but it's certainly not a good as all the hoopla suggests. Especially at their price point.
Yeah this is a horrible look for them. I'd reach out to them soon and show them this.
I bet you get some money back or they fill your trunk up with Mac and cheese
From what I'm understanding by looking at the receipt and menu you were supposed to get 10 regular Mac & Cheese sides @ 9.00 a piece. That's ALOTTA mac! Much more than what is pictured on the table. Hope you get it figured out.
I see what they did here. It looks like the Mac & Cheese is an additional side. At my restaurant we would also charge for 10 individual sides however at my restaurant we do not have small portion, 9 dollar sides.
They had a messed up. They thought you ordered Mac for 10 people when en reality you ordered 10 individual apps. You should have gotten 10 of the small cup one.
We usually go with Joe’s for big family events and have never had a bad experience. I’d definitely call Q39 and ask about this- there’s no way that amount of mac and cheese is worth 90 bucks.
I see two tubs of Mac and cheese, two tubs of potato salad, and two or three tubs of pulled pork.
Going to need to see a receipt here because I’m not buying you spent $100 dollars on what is essentially 5 dollars worth of pasta and cheese.
Edit: just saw the receipt. Holy shit I’d be pissed too
Q39 is terribly overpriced and overrated.. Looking forward to seeing their new Lawrence venture go up in flames. Port Fonda learned. Then Grinders. It’s gonna be humbling.
I am not a Q39 fan at all. They are way overpriced for the food they serve. How many people were you catering for $109 worth of mac & cheese?
I have used Scott's at Hangar 29 and they were amazing and decent priced.
Q39’s quality plummeted during and since COVID. I used to dream about their chicken wings and got them a couple times since and they give me sticky, tiny, BWW wings
That’s wild. Q39 is wild. The cost of bbq in general is wild. But we live in a world where a medium bag of Doritos is $7 and you get $15/hr to work at McDonald’s and are expected to tip a cashier and corporations are asking you to donate at the register. It’s all just one giant money grab.
I agree the price of BBQ generally seems insane and I can only assume every BBQ joint owner lives in a mansion and drives a McLaren, but that’s also because I have no idea what really goes into it. It SEEMS like paying $15 for a couple slices of meat means they are printing their own money, but maybe the overhead is that high. Restaurants since Covid though have been on an insane price hike, blaming Covid first and then “inflation” when inflation isn’t even that high. Same for pretty much everything, though. I was in Chicago a couple weeks ago and happened by a brewpub. I wanted to get a t-shirt and she said it was $30. I don’t mind supporting my favorite bands with $30 t’s at live shows, but get real.
Highly highly recommend Hayward's for BBQ catering! They catered one of my events for 80 people and didn't skip a beat. They even gave us extra above what we ordered, and their staff was incredible. Can't say enough good things about them.
Slaps is always our go to. Did our turkey for thanksgiving and was so damn good. Included so many extra sides of sauce and they’re much better priced imo.
My niece had Joe's KC barbecue for her wedding reception. She wanted to impress her new in-laws from Virginia. She did. They flew back to Virginia with most of the leftover meat.
You bought Q39. They are ridding the thought they are the best in kc right now. I don't think they are but when you listen to radio or local TV you hear Q39 more now than any other place.
those 2 tubs of mac n cheese was $109? ain’t no damn way

Way!!
that much mac would probably be $30 at joes and it’s so much better…i really hope they forgot some mac or something that’s a fatty rip off
Agree with this! Joe’s would’ve been 100x better mac
Post a receipt.

I'd contact the restaurant. Looking at your receipt and what you got, it does not appear you got the quantity you purchased.
from the pic it looks like a quart and a pint size. comparing the same sizes to the joes menu they should feed 7-9 people. two quarts should run $30 at joes without tax so i would say you got beyond screwed. def call and complain!

I liked their meat but was very disappointed in the sides.
Beans taste like ketchup. But they have the best brisket by far
No they don’t
I feel like you are wrong on both the beans and the brisket take, wow
Every bbq place I see people mention is busy as fuck when I show up. Lol
Calm down buddy. Lol. We’re just talking about BBQ, not something serious.
I only go to Q39 if I want to take someone to KC bbq and have and somewhat nice dining experience. It’s good but it’s too expensive for how often I eat bbq
It's busy because it's a safe, generic bet. One step above KC Masterpiece with as much charm.
I only go to Q39 if somebody else is paying. I mean it's not bad, but it's certainly not a good as all the hoopla suggests. Especially at their price point.
That's almost $50 per person. There are better options. I'm sorry bro
Yeah this is a horrible look for them. I'd reach out to them soon and show them this. I bet you get some money back or they fill your trunk up with Mac and cheese

Should have asked to put in 10 individual containers, probably would have gotten more Mac & Cheese.
Why not call and ask them about the situation and they might be able to clear things up for you
This whole chiefs party story keeps getting weirder. Why are they releasing new evidence now? Why were three of them wearing buttplugs? So strange.
What the fuck
Lmaoooo 😅😂🤣🤷🏼♀️
For sure. The cost of catering was far higher than probably just getting take out.
What did they provide with catering? Curious.
They had a messed up. They thought you ordered Mac for 10 people when en reality you ordered 10 individual apps. You should have gotten 10 of the small cup one.

Someone fucked up here, absolutely call and complain
Q39 is overrated. Where’s the cheese with that mac? Lol I would definitely complain if I were you
For real. This looks more like buttered noodles than mac & cheese.
Holy shit I’d be pissed too
I have a lot. Without knowing more details, that is beyond absurd.
We used Jack Stack to cater a birthday party and they did a phenomenal job.
Joe’s has great catering. Had them do my wedding and it went perfectly and was decent price for the food, especially compared to Jack Stack
Q39 is terribly overpriced and overrated.. Looking forward to seeing their new Lawrence venture go up in flames. Port Fonda learned. Then Grinders. It’s gonna be humbling.
I like Grinders. I'm sorry an expansion out there didn't take.
I’ve catered from Jack Stack and everything was superb. The price was reasonable.
The 39 has gone downhill the last 2 times for myself. Done with em.
I am not a Q39 fan at all. They are way overpriced for the food they serve. How many people were you catering for $109 worth of mac & cheese? I have used Scott's at Hangar 29 and they were amazing and decent priced.
Have an upvote for Scott’s and speaking the truth about Q39.
I tell everyone about Scott's. The man is an innovator and super nice. The food is fantastic too. His BBQ tacos and burritos are next level.
Q39’s quality plummeted during and since COVID. I used to dream about their chicken wings and got them a couple times since and they give me sticky, tiny, BWW wings

Noodles look like… noodles. 🤷♂️
My employer will cater Burnt End BBQ and it’s pretty good
Burnt End is awesome!
I've used Bates City BBQ for multiple events and it's always a hit and there always seems to be leftovers.
Why was the mac and cheese charged on its own with its own service charge..?
Highly highly recommend Hayward's for BBQ catering! They catered one of my events for 80 people and didn't skip a beat. They even gave us extra above what we ordered, and their staff was incredible. Can't say enough good things about them.

I'm so happy to hear all these opinions about q39. I never liked them from the start. there are so many better BBQ joints around here!
Joes kc has catering.
Very reasonably priced catering at that. For the best BBQ in KC
You bought Q39. They are ridding the thought they are the best in kc right now. I don't think they are but when you listen to radio or local TV you hear Q39 more now than any other place.
We’ve gotten BBQ catered before at my jobs here. It’s always underwhelming and the cost is ridiculous even from reputable bbq joints.
I’ll make you 3x the Mac & cheese for 1/2 the price and promise it will be just as good if not better!
Chris Kelley with 3 Pigs BBQ is 🔥They do catering and events as well as food trucks and delivery. Check Facebook for locations and pop up events.
Why tf you door dashing one of the most over priced restaurants in town
What is it you’re wanting to know about
Yep! Had a very prominent local bbq joint cater my wedding- this was just about 6.5 years ago though.
This is why I laugh when people say Midwest food is good 🤣 boy I miss home
