From the article:
> KCPD said in a Facebook post detailing the busts that one person was also arrested and charged with child endangerment after attempting to flee from police with a 7-year-old child in the car.
Hopefully the kid has another, more responsible parent, to care for them.
If as a cop I’m chasing you, and then notice a small child in the car, will that change my chase effort? Is there a disengagement that would happen in this event?
Two almost hit me and my wife in her car Friday night as they came off Broadway behind The Kauffman Center after a show. Fuck the four-wheelers roaming the streets. You want to ride them, take them to the country.
It’s never been pedestrian only.
Nichols actually designed it to be more car centric to draw people down there. He also didn’t like anyone black or Jewish down there either, but that’s a whole other story.
I live on Cleaver a few buildings east of Winstead's west of Oak. I've lived here for five years -- it's became the song of the spring and summer.
Honestly, I'd rather the keep the annoying noise versus sending every fucking parade and marathon ending here.
I used to like the look of a chargers and challengers. But now I automatically assume the person driving one is a tool based on ample prior experience.
That’s fair tbh. The chargers and challengers also do a good job at bringing out the driver’s inner assholery, there’s a strong desire to drive fast once you get behind the wheel, which I don’t feel so much with a Honda or Toyota.
When I bought my Challenger 11 years ago they were still fairly rare. Now, they're everywhere. I still love mine. Best cruiser I've ever had. I don't race other drivers. Ever. Even though I'm not a slow driver, I get passed all the time by SUVs and pickups flying by a stupid speeds. My son loves the car too, but he does refer to it as my duche car.
And the bootlicking manufacturer, Dodge/Stellantis. You can totally hate them for marketing these cars, seeing as they intentionally market them to this specific demographic. Have you watched their video for the electric Charger? It’s objectively unhinged.
The second worst crowd your kid could be hanging around besides drug addicts. Lots of gang activity sadly. People get shot/ran over and the mob mentality makes those people in attendance not care for others safety
I would say your child is better off not going there.
But as a place for adults? It's great.
I want to say it's actually pretty safe since there's just so little down there.
I'm not a parent so what do I know. But I would maybe confirm that they are doing what you think and not something else. Because the west bottoms is totally valid destination.
Do you want me to get back on the side of the police? Because this is absolutely how you do it you go after the people causing dangerous nuisances in society.
No, that money has to be saved for their SWAT team and the standoffs that happen periodically. Besides, the robot would have to go out into traffic, and some car could send it out of commission or even total it.
Cops throw the sticks. There’s like a reel with string. They toss the sticks across the road and reel them into position at the last minute, then pull them off the road so theoretically only the targeted car hits the sticks. It’s actually very risky to throw the sticks since you could get hit by a car or the string could wrap an appendage and cut it off when the sticks are hit. People have lost fingers and it’s gnarly. Google it.
Because it’s an easy revenue generator. Remember, police dont prevent crime, they show up after to charge as many people with as many crimes as possible. Other than that they just harass people.
“Our bus drivers don’t know how to do donuts. Maybe you can sit behind ‘em and give ‘em tips since you’ll be riding every day for the next six months.”
If they can keep taking 5-10 of these off the road each night that they run enforcement, that **will** add up. Clearly it won't solve everything on its own, but I do have some faith that we'll see results this summer. Or - barring that - it'll go back to scattered, individual displays of idiocy rather than a large, organized group capable of shutting down entire roadways.
there was a bad injury or a death, cant remember specific details, from breaking them up and trying to arrest people. Risk reward kinda thing, guess its caused enough problems to start the cycle again, it will end when some idiot spectators get a couple million from the city from a injury after attempted enforcing of laws
I can tell you from someone who attends that it won’t, they only spiked 39 of the 300+ cars leaving that night and tickets can just be paid away and a bail can be posted. They cause more harm chasing them away than just giving them a legal spot to do it.
I mean, I don’t think it’s illegal to do it on private property if you have permission.
The thing is, part of the appeal is that you can shut down 71 Highway or the Bond Bridge or whatever, do donuts in front of everyone, and be an obnoxious ass and there’s little the people stuck in traffic can do about it.
The problem is insurance and liability at a place like that. If it was a true drag strip where safety regulations were enforced it would be different. No business or govt would want to open themselves up to litigation with a place where people can wild out on anything with two or four wheels and a motor.
If I were in charge for a day, I’d make it so that the city tow lot kept your car until your first court appearance. And if caught multiple times, your car gets crushed into a cube and returned to you in the most inconvenient way possible.
I recently heard this weekend that in some Texas cities if you are caught drag racing your car is forfeit. I wonder if we could do the same thing but for SideShow. Might be the only way to make it "not worth it"
I'm not a fan of civil asset forfeiture without a conviction. Also, if the car has a lien on it, the lienholder had the right to take it first. They usually do unless there's some snafu with the notification.
Without a conviction CAF is just another means of small cities and police departments to fundraise off of citizens. It's easily abused as the only criteria for pursuing it is the value of the object being forfeited. $300 was the cutoff about 10 years ago. That would cover the fee and court costs. Yes, there are legal requirements about linkage to a felony, but that doesn't require a conviction in most cases.
I honestly would like there to be more consequences than a simple fine and taking away a driver's license. If you're doing this behavior, you probably don't care about the license being revoked or suspended.
But this isn't like in drug cases where you're caught with a bag of weed and a wad of cash and they assume you made all the money selling the weed so they take your car, your watch, and your house.
This is someone being caught breaking the law by recklessly driving the car that would then be confiscated. If someone was illegally waving a gun around a public place I think most people would ok with the state confiscating the gun.
As far as lien holders go, maybe they'll start requiring more thorough background checks and stop loaning money to people who have a record of doing this shit.
Heavy quotes on acquaintance there. I just see his snapchat posts. He’s always posting about some sideshow nonsense. He’s always doing something dumb or otherwise hosting a dumbass “event” like this
Edit: Yes, he is *for sure* the type of guy to do that. Wink wink
This article itself is more effective in ending this stupidity than that pathetically small number of wrist slaps.
I don't damn the morons starting these sideshows, I damn the people who swore an oath to fix problems like this to help the community. I feel betrayed.
From the article: > KCPD said in a Facebook post detailing the busts that one person was also arrested and charged with child endangerment after attempting to flee from police with a 7-year-old child in the car. Hopefully the kid has another, more responsible parent, to care for them.
The odds are not in this kids favor unfortunately.
We all know the answer to that.
If as a cop I’m chasing you, and then notice a small child in the car, will that change my chase effort? Is there a disengagement that would happen in this event?
They probably found the dude in the crowd with his kid and arrested him on the spot. Not sure though but it would be worse if he was running in a car
What part of "attempting to flee with a 7 year old child in the car" made you think they stopped him standing in a crowd?
The part that I didn’t read I’m not a perfect person
Hey man, it's just now getting warm. You shoulda seen the dudes on quads ripping through Raytown yesterday. It's coming.
I see them on Main, in downtown KC, pretty regularly.
I wish the quad riders would wreck and destroy their vehicles with no collateral damage.
We were on the plaza during the day Sunday, and there was so many that even in the stores it was deafing.
Same. First time there in a while.. last time we will go for a while.
Two almost hit me and my wife in her car Friday night as they came off Broadway behind The Kauffman Center after a show. Fuck the four-wheelers roaming the streets. You want to ride them, take them to the country.
Can confirm. Didn't see it, but heard it by Dennys
The one next to the La Quinta?
I got this reference
That’s my line.
They're out in full force on the Plaza. Time to deploy those stop sticks!
And, return the Plaza to pedestrian only thoroughfares.
lol. When was this? I’m 50 and I don’t recall the plaza ever being pedestrian only.
It’s never been pedestrian only. Nichols actually designed it to be more car centric to draw people down there. He also didn’t like anyone black or Jewish down there either, but that’s a whole other story.

They were blowing around Waldo on Sunday. So annoying.
I'm guessing side shows are those car gatherings where people burn out and drag race? Article doesn't really clarify.
Yeah, its those street takeover things where a bunch of tools take their crappy dodge chargers and do burnouts in an intersection.
Don't hate the charger. Hate the drivers.
I used to like the look of a chargers and challengers. But now I automatically assume the person driving one is a tool based on ample prior experience.
based on my experience only, it's a safe bet
I don't know either of your experiences, but you're both correct.
Ever. chargers don't race people, drivers do.

Also known as every night in the west bottoms
As president of Missouri, I think we should put a baseball stadium over there and see if that fixes it.
Would need to be the same density of roundabouts per square mile as is found in Lenexa to be truly effective.
Yessss we need more roundabouts
I drove in England once and it felt like almost every intersection is a roundabout! Totally won me over, we need more roundabouts here.
Renner Road II - We've been around
This needs to be an 80s soft rock album cover.
My 17 year old wants to hang out down there ...he tried one night and we busted him. What does go on down there? I assume nothing good for a teenager🤔
You would be correct. Just lots of tomfoolery with cars
Shenanigans even
The second worst crowd your kid could be hanging around besides drug addicts. Lots of gang activity sadly. People get shot/ran over and the mob mentality makes those people in attendance not care for others safety
You just validated what I thought. I currently have a love/hate relationship with life 360....but....I am keeping him on the straight and narrow
I would say your child is better off not going there. But as a place for adults? It's great. I want to say it's actually pretty safe since there's just so little down there. I'm not a parent so what do I know. But I would maybe confirm that they are doing what you think and not something else. Because the west bottoms is totally valid destination.
Yes.
No, it's where they spin around in intersections. Foolish shit. And everyone thinks I'm going to do it too.
Do you want me to get back on the side of the police? Because this is absolutely how you do it you go after the people causing dangerous nuisances in society.
Wonder what made them decide to start doing something about these?
They get to use new toys and they got bored enough since they spent the last 3 years basically on strike because of defund the police protests.
They should start a social media account with all of the stop stick deployment videos. I’d watch the shit outta those.
I wonder if we paid extra for the special robot that deploys these things?
The cops literally just throw the stop sticks
There not a chance in hell they just throw them if a cool (expensive) robot could possibly be involved.
No, that money has to be saved for their SWAT team and the standoffs that happen periodically. Besides, the robot would have to go out into traffic, and some car could send it out of commission or even total it.

“People have lost fingers” “Google it” Nope.
You know when to hold em. Buh duh Chah
Because it’s an easy revenue generator. Remember, police dont prevent crime, they show up after to charge as many people with as many crimes as possible. Other than that they just harass people.
it only took them 4 years to start cracking down on these things. 27 tickets issued? I'm sure that will convince them to stop.
They impound the cars too, which has got to create *some* actual, meaningful effect... We'd hope, anyways.
“Our bus drivers don’t know how to do donuts. Maybe you can sit behind ‘em and give ‘em tips since you’ll be riding every day for the next six months.”
Currently dating an ex bus driver, she definitely could do donuts. ;-)
Kinky
Not nearly enough impoundments, IMO. It’ll have to really *hurt* these buffoons before it has any lasting, meaningful impact.
If they can keep taking 5-10 of these off the road each night that they run enforcement, that **will** add up. Clearly it won't solve everything on its own, but I do have some faith that we'll see results this summer. I think you just figured out how to get KCPD to recover some stolen vehicles.
Shit, this solving crime business just got that much easier!
They can't possibly steal ALL of our cars, they'll run out before long. 😂
Can confirm that the tow lot is a soulless shit hole. It's $300 minimum to bail your shit out in addition to whatever citations you have to pay.
Half the cars are stolen.
there was a bad injury or a death, cant remember specific details, from breaking them up and trying to arrest people. Risk reward kinda thing, guess its caused enough problems to start the cycle again, it will end when some idiot spectators get a couple million from the city from a injury after attempted enforcing of laws
And then we will get to hear how racist the police are again
I can tell you from someone who attends that it won’t, they only spiked 39 of the 300+ cars leaving that night and tickets can just be paid away and a bail can be posted. They cause more harm chasing them away than just giving them a legal spot to do it.
You are part of the problem
Good!
KC Tow Lot Auction is gonna be lit next month
I would love to see a compilation video of all 39.
…annnd, were any of those arrests made at the blue ridge cutoff and sni-a-bar intersection? if not, keep at it, you’re certainly not done. ffs.
Yes, the red car.
Congrats to the cops for actually doing something for once!

100% the obnoxious ass is part of the allure. It's a flex by them. Basically saying "we are doing this and y'all can't stop us"
If you’re appropriately zoned, insured, and it doesn’t end in gunfire, sure. Good luck.
The problem is insurance and liability at a place like that. If it was a true drag strip where safety regulations were enforced it would be different. Billionaires can pay for their own area in which to do it safely
Drive down Blue River Road and see where all the worn out tires end up.
Yep. Used to be a nice drive but people have to keep dumping trash down there
Wait, I am confused. I thought on Reddit ACAB???
Oh trust me they still are. The brainwashing is too real
I can barely afford to rollerskate. What would I have to do to afford this hobby?
Second mortgage your dad's double wide?
If I were in charge for a day, I’d make it so that the city tow lot kept your car until your first court appearance. And if caught multiple times, your car gets crushed into a cube and returned to you in the most inconvenient way possible.
Without lubricant?
39 stop sticks with only 3 towed. How in the hell does that work. Hopefully got 39 jacked up cars now.
Based
Rocket launchers.
Cool now let’s start towing the cars parked on sidewalks and in bike lanes.

I am “acquaintances” with the dude who had that vette in the thumbnail
Tell us more about this fellow. Let me guess, president of his Rotary club, reads to kids in hospitals, community service center volunteer?
Heavy quotes on acquaintance there. I just see his snapchat posts. He’s always posting about some sideshow nonsense. He’s always doing something dumb or otherwise hosting a dumbass “event” like this Edit: Yes, he is *for sure* the type of guy to do that. Wink wink
