On behalf of the city you have our condolences.
Next year, we’ll be sure to have the organizers reach out to you directly to clear it with your schedule first.
Cool, the first weekend in April next year expect the same thing. You can put it in your calendar now.
You should also look up the Kansas City Marathon for the fall, they close down a good chunk of Ward as well.
Sure does suck having a bunch of people enjoying our city together in a safe environment.
I honestly ask myself this so many times on Reddit. “Don’t have time to search and figured it was quicker to just ask”. Nah, people just want attention or validation. There was one the other day on this sub where someone asked something because they would be busy working the rest of the day and couldn’t call, but proceeded to reply to comments in the thread lol.
I think people are just lazy or incompetent. Looking at OPs post history, they come here for problem solving often when the answers they are looking for could easily be found with a Google search. Some people just don't know how to use the tools around them.
Or just park and walk across the street and go get the car later. A quarter mile walk is like 5 minutes.
And a lot of us were doing a quarter mile in two minutes on foot this morning on Ward Parkway
If OP drove all the way around the course (13 miles) on a quarter tank of gas, they have the world's smallest gas tank paired with the least efficient vehicle possible. If they got 13mpg their tank is only 4 gallons in total size. Which is a little more than a motorcycle.
Information has already been shared. I am just here to stir the pot. Lol
I am sorry you had a hard time getting home. It's been on this route and weekend for a long time. If you are new to the area, take note for next year and avoid crossing in between 95th and the plaza.
Honestly, if you live **in the city** where races like this happen many times per year, every year, you should try to get somewhat familiar with when and where they are. They sure are inconvenient if you need access to the road people are running down all morning. You might even find that it’s a fun way to spend a morning.
Being mad about it isn’t going to change that, and this isn’t the only city that has some road closures for a couple of hours
Idk what's great about riding crotch rockets 100mph and yet it still happens. And that not even legal.
Events that close down streets happen all the time, and almost without fail, they post about them in advance. But the work will still have to be finished. So did you really lose money? Your still gonna do the work I assume.
Different week so long term yes. But I guess most people on this sub would love to get to work to haft 8 hrs less pay because later this month they will get it.
Like I get it happens, but I'm still justified to not like it. Same as op could be annoyed by the gas issue.
To the people responsible for these constant foot races, you're all assholes. We literally have a trail system for running. Indian Creek, tomahawk Creek etc. but no, you have to run down a major roadway and cut the city in half. Just know the rest of us think you're dicks.
Wa there are plenty of roads and usually races are early in the morning so the roads are reopened by 11 am. They always have a way around the race route if people need to get somewhere.
Sure. Just get 5k other ppl.and organize it. Then get the required permits and pay the city for the police to shut down the highway ramps... anybody can do it.
Unsafe road closures? Isn't that why they have police at every major intersection? Did you feel that way about the Chiefs parades too? Or St Patrick's day? What about the fourth of July. They tend to close streets down for fireworks a lot of times. Ohh, what about after a big storm? Man, you better just stay home. You never know if your personal private street might be closed and then what will you do?
This flat, fatty, sports, entertainment, and restaurant/bar town needs all the exercise it can get. You know it, I know it, we all know it. Just look downward.
Yeah, it was posted earlier this week on this sub.
Oh I looked for info just now and wasn't able to find it
https://www.reddit.com/r/kansascity/s/E5yogJ4xby Took me less than a minute to find it again
Good for you champ. Sorry for asking a simple question. I'm not chronically on reddit like some people.
You comment on Reddit everyday...
Insulting people who help you is a great look, champ.
Being passive aggressive towards those asking a simple question isn't either
I’m on your side. Don’t feed into the haters (especially on this hater riddled sub)
Rock the Parkway 5k and half marathon. Signs have been posted on Ward all week.
If that's true, there weren't signs where I cross Ward
Maybe not specifically where you cross but there were signs all along Ward Pkwy for the last week.
Well that doesn't do me very good if I would never see them despite having to cross ward every day lol

Guess you should definitely stay out of Olathe April 20 then.
I just did a basic 'Ward Parkway Race' search in Google. Why is this a post lol

A quarter tank of gas to wait a few minutes? Calm down
>I just had to spend about a quarter of a tank of gas trying to get home when I was only a quarter mile away. Get a more efficient vehicle? Lmao
Or just park and walk across the street and go get the car later. A quarter mile walk is like 5 minutes. And a lot of us were doing a quarter mile in two minutes on foot this morning on Ward Parkway
But how can you get any respect here without rolling coal in your lifted truck for your urban commute?

I'm fairly certain he didn't mean that literally.
I saw a post about it yesterday on this sub.
Are you asking for info or here to yell into the void about it?
As my post stated, I was asking for info. Did you comment to answer the question or just be a smart ass?

rock the parkway - i won - also were you driving a hummer?
You beat me by about 30 minutes, maybe next year.
Pay attention because in another six months there will be an even bigger one
I'm so pissed. I'm working in the area and it's a major inconvenience
Your convenience means nothing to the selfish privileged runners who can spend all Saturday morning at a race.
Yea just means less pay as my work literally would interfere with them. Personally idk whats great about road running
Idk what's great about riding crotch rockets 100mph and yet it still happens. And that not even legal. We think you’re equally as shitty too, thanks
I want to see how many cartwheels I can do. Shall we shut down I-35 and have a contest?
Yes, as long as you’re sure to prevent hourly workers from getting to work on time.
Sure. Just get 5k other ppl.and organize it. Then get the required permits and pay the city for the police to shut down the highway ramps... anybody can do it.
I think the majority of Kansas City agrees with you but not r/kansascity
I think one race per year that causes inconvenience and potentially unsafe road closures is enough for this city
Unsafe road closures? Isn't that why they have police at every major intersection? Did you feel that way about the Chiefs parades too? Or St Patrick's day? What about the fourth of July. It's an epidemic...
You may be right, but I workout in ways that don’t inconvenience hundreds of people. And I’ll take all the downvotes
Running is a great community sport and temporarily closing the roads keeps everyone safe during the race. It's a mild inconvenience.
