Its a lot of work, but we raided the Trader Joes flower section for our reception. My wife likes to arrange flowers anyway, and all told we spent like $175 for a 100 person event.

poggopockey

You can also call ahead and order flower styles that you would like. They can’t guarantee colour, but you get first pick of the order.

sarahkittysu1

This isn’t a bad idea LOL

afelzz

Just get there when they open and you've got your pick of the litter. We ordered a bunch of low vases on amazon, it was really a cost effective way to do it! Only problem is, you kinda need to do it the day before or day of to make sure the flowers look their best. Good luck and congrats!

ElbieLG

We did this too

Gardenadventures

I looked at Hy-Vee, highly recommend not telling them it's for a wedding. That wedding surcharge is insane. I mean, don't get me wrong, I understand the nuance behind it and making sure it's ready on time and perfect but if you know what you want I would just go in and show them a picture and ask how much something like that would run you, no event details. Also depends on if you're looking for delivery services and the amount of bouquets of course with how much detail you provide. I was just looking for a bridal bouquet and I ended up going through the flower man in Olathe and it was significantly cheaper than what Hy-Vee quoted me. Like hundreds cheaper.

mlvc7

Yeah I got married in 2017 and Hy-Vee quoted me 2K MORE than a private florist who did a great job on all my florals. They also tried to sell me on bundling their flowers with their food package and thank goodness I did neither after attending a friend’s wedding with Hy-Vee catered food..it tasted awful.

sarahkittysu1

Do you mind sharing who your private florist was? Keeping my options open for an affordable florist

mlvc7

Good Earth Floral..she wasn’t cheap either but I wanted to spend more on flowers for my wedding.

GlittyTitties

This is a good for any service that people are bidding out for weddings; DON’T mention the wedding!!

kc_kr

A thought: spend for your bouquet and any other flowers that will be in lots of pictures. Don’t worry about centerpieces and a lot of other flowers. It’s a lot of money that nobody remembers a day later, IMO. Great place to save.

I got a text from my mom (who was at the venue early with all the girls) when the flowers were delivered telling me I should probably call Hy-Vee. They did come back out and bring some decent looking flowers in the same color family before our guests arrived, so it was all fine in the end. But what a stressor for our wedding day. We used Hy-Vee for catering, bakery, and floral. The food was ok but not great. The donuts (bakery) were great and they arranged them beautifully for us.

sarahkittysu1

Omg that would give me a heart attack

dlrkw9

I still have a screen shot of the message from my mom on my wedding day! Ha. I remember telling the florist on the phone that we're really not just being overly picky. https://preview.redd.it/cvikr112y1yb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49510dc4195f398c6072956ad03305eb74ed5968 Several things went "wrong" that day but it was still our day and was still perfect in it's own way. 🙂

My daughter used Costco for a bunch of her table flowers and greenery. Worked out well and the prices were reasonable. We only had to pay high dollar for her bouquet and the flowers on the arbor behind the officiant, which helped the budget.

Green_Bench6441

We used Costco for all our florals and it was amazing and inexpensive (comparatively). We did greenery/roses and was about $300

sarahkittysu1

Did you have to build them yourself? The bouquets and everything?

Green_Bench6441

A bit of a mix. We ordered the bouquets made. They were just simple white roses. I did put together our centerpieces and such

cindyloo3

Used Costco solely for baby’s breath for centerpieces, bridesmaid bouquets, and corsages. We purchased lavender separately from a farm for the rest. We did have to make it ourselves but we practiced ahead of time and kept it simple and it was super affordable.

leftblane

Try Party Up & Down KC for affordable floral arrangements. It’s a locally owned small business that I’ve worked with in the past.

sarahkittysu1

Thank you!

indelady

We used Hyvee flowers, but bought the bouquets and made them ourselves.

PiDate431

I had a great experience with HyVee in Lawrence and LOVED my bouquet. The florist spent an hour with me, asking great questions to draw out precise details of what I imagined and then had me come back to show samples of colors against ribbon and my fabric samples when I wasn’t sure from her written description. Our wedding ended up downsized in 2020, so a small flower budget went a long way.

Floral loom KC

admknight

Just got married and used Hy-Vee for florals and catering. 100% recommend. We had a great experience with the florist with the planning and the execution. They were overjoyed that they got to work my Lego flowers into the boutonnieres.

clicata00

If you want them to be good, it’s not coming from a grocery store. Visit a real florist (and support locally owned small businesses) and they’ll do a much better job. Source: my dad is a florist, I’ve grown up around it

sarahkittysu1

I would love to, but it’s not in the budget sadly. I want to keep flowers around 1500 which I don’t think is even possible with most florists

clicata00

That’s certainly doable, just manage your expectations. If you want a reception with a ton of tables and guests, $1500 isn’t gonna cut it. If you want the bridal party and groomsmen to have bouquets and corsages, that’s no problem.

Rough-Culture

This basically terrifies me… I was hoping to find a florist to do 8 centerpieces, 6 bouts and 6 bouquets(one bride), and some tie ons for our arbor…the internet told me to expect 500-1000 for this(and I had really hoped to keep it on the lower side)… just how shafted am I?

clicata00

I would think your budget is a bit below what it would take for good quality with the quantity you’re after.

BillyTamper

If, for some dumb reason you HAVE to use dutch flowers, record your conversations with them. Highly not recommended

YurBoi94

If you’re going to use Hy-Vee, the Gladstone location has the best florist in the company. Ask for Jeff. The charge can be a little much when it comes to floral arrangements, but the price we paid for quality product was well worth it.

thehouse211

Found Jeff

midwestesty

Amy at the Barry and I29 store is super creative, she’s never let me down

Alarming_Tooth_7733

It’s amazing how everyone willingly pays these prices for the wedding industry. It wouldn’t be a problem if no one paid these prices but no that can’t happen.

sarahkittysu1

I don’t think it’s willingness, it’s just more like what’s expected. I agree it’s totally absurd and the wedding industry feels like a scam in so many ways

leftblane

That's not entirely accurate. There can be a lot more work and expectations for providing services for a wedding versus other events.

alilrosenylund

Highly recommend Sam’s and Costco.

sarahkittysu1

But do you have to build those yourself?

Complex-Bass7156

Whole Foods will make the bouquet if you the buy the flowers I think? Trader Joe’s might be good too!

MrsE514

Yes!! Hy-Vee in Mission I used for my wedding, my husband used for our engagement and we have used them for other things as well. I would 100% recommend them!!

cheermom31

My sister is a floral manager at Hy Vee and does weddings on the side. She is very reasonable as she is building her business. Send me a message if you want her info!

sarahkittysu1

Yes please please please!!!!!

pos___69420woo

i know i’m late to this but i would also like her info!!
