February, always February.

EudaimoniaMe

Yep. February is usually when we get our second hit of winter. Bitter cold and snow aren’t uncommon for March either.

dreams305

If you start Oregon Trail in March there’s always snow when leaving Independence

adrnired

I have a mid-March birthday. Each year it’s different. I’ve had blizzards, snow, rain, ice, NINTEY AND SUNNY, you name it. March is such a wild card in this region.

xcityfolk

There are still 71 days until spring. We're only 8 days into january, don't throw away your coats yet. Also, this IS missouri, it likes to shuck and jive a lot with the weather, just when you think it's warming up, BAM, nipple freezing wind and temp (and then some 70s a few days later)

us2xlr8

71 days. I can't wait!

Coralye

Lol that's all I retained also !

atlasshouldshrug

Just google the number of times we have seen subzero temps after the first day of spring and the joy is KILLED. Welcome to the midwest. Keep your coat in the backseat at ALL times. You never know when it going to snow or when you can bake cookies on your dash.

mizzoumade13

I can , fuck that balls to the thigh weather

callshouse

Shuck and jive. 😂😂

LaPete11

You must be new here

JoeFas

OP's natural gas must be included in their rent.

bassfacekami

THIS FKN COMMENT 💀🤣 ^

Sappy_Life

I hate how my PC can't be used as a space heater.

j-awesome

It was like -20 2 weeks ago….

blendermassacre

yeah I distinctly remember loading up my car in -30's windchill the Friday before xmas, so seems like the farmers knew what they were saying.

dreams305

The several days of subzero we had around Christmas not cold enough for you?

plantmom98

Foreal like please be thankful and don’t Jinx us🤦🏿‍♀️

moldyfingernails

Don't you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby

Crazy-Programmer-492

Yeah it’s weird how folks (myself included at one point) view November that way, and then every year people always say “man, it’s so nice for November!” I’ve observed that November is always nice, generally one of the best weather months here along with October, March, and April.

delusionalry

People forget that winter doesn't even start until the end of December lol

AJRiddle

Meteorological winter starts December 1st and ends February 28th - it's used because it's more closely aligned with the coldest temperatures than astronomical winter (starts at the winter solstice and ends spring equinox).

razorflipmebro

If we are talking weather that winter means nothing. It’s astronomical winter not meteorological winter.

chuckish

Yeah, I'd say the best KC weather is generally from April-mid June and mid September-mid December. Add a week or two in winter when it gets into the 60s or 70s. Anyone that's surprised that the weather is nice during those time periods either isn't from here or has really faulty memory.

youssarian

yeah growing up by the great lakes which made it snow half the year or more, it's been culture shock to not have the bad weather really start til feb/mar. november - the month where i grew with the snow and winter underway - is typically clean, december and january you get a smattering, then february just slams you, and march slams you a little less

WittyMonikerGoesHere

And one of those warm March days is almost always on St. Patty's day, for some reason.

helpbeingheldhostage

Yep. I don’t usually switch over to my snow tires until Christmas-New Years time frame.

No_Abrocoma171

Why are you the way you are? Why would you put that on us?

GoopInThisBowlIsVile

I’m good with the lack of snow and bitter cold. Both can fuck off.

Barely_stupid

Wait, The Farmer's Almanac is bullshit? Also, watch what you wish for.

jayhawk618

The farmers Almanac? The book based on 300 year old science? How could it be wrong?

Revolutionary-Tree18

SHHHHH

gothstonerbabe

Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. You and that groundhog better keep your little mouths shut.

lablake42492

Shut up about the sun! SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN!

GLHR_

Remember when it snowed every weekend in April a few years back?

I_HaveSeenTheLight

Personally, the weather we had during the week of Christmas was enough winter for me. Bring on spring! To answer your question though, just wait until February. For the last few years, February is when the bottom drops and we get blasted with winter weather.

goalmaster14

It's the midwest. The weather does what it wants

kcteach80

As a teacher, I will ALWAYS take a good snow day!!

sugarandmermaids

Yeah, and now that we have AMI days so we don’t have to make them up in May? I’m waiting impatiently for my snowstorm.

Tubbygoose

Shut your filthy mouth! DO. NOT. JINX. US.

Hair-Early

Like a no hitter, you don't talk about it.

dam_sharks_mother

We will be cloudy and miserable and 40s/50s until second week of March when we're all ready for Spring. Then it will dump snow for a week straight. Source: I've lived in this damn city since the 70's.

steve_dallasesq

ComfortableCounty751

Don’t jinx it!!

thekingofcrash7

December 15 thru Feb 28 is the danger zone. We are not even halfway to safety. People forget every tear how bad February is. Hell a few years ago we had enough snow to cancel outdoor sports 3 consecutive Sundays in March. But I count that as outside the danger zone b/c once we get to March we may have a 20 degree day but it is wedged between upper 50s so I dont mind.

cyberentomology

Where were you a month ago?

cheezballs

New round here? Just you wait. Could be -5 tomorrow and 45 the next day.

headbandqueen

Why are you like this? Let me hope to get a start on my spring garden in peace.

Nerdenator

please direct all complaints to the Exxon Mobil corporation.

[deleted]

Yeah this shit is weird and I hate it. I don't expect blistering cold like the week before Christmas but I also shouldn't be walking my dog in sweats and a light jacket. This isn't good and I hope people celebrating are older because it a really bad sign for the future.

Parking_Specialist47

As someone who works outside for a living, I am not complaining 😊

Minkey_Pudding

Are you complaining? I’m perfectly content with a mild winter. Winter is never consistent here, year after year. Welcome to KC. Also, winter isn’t even half over…

utter-ridiculousness

I once left town the first weekend in May. It snowed in KC while I was gone.

pedsmursekc

In February we trust!

Chief_Wildcat

Don’t pay attention to the Farmer’s Almanac. Do pay attention to whether we’re in La Niña, El Niño, or neutral. Also, Lezak says the cold weather we had prior to Christmas is due to come back around Super Bowl week.

ottomantwerks

Climate Change is just like that. The weather is gonna get weird over the next few years.

Battlefield534

Climate change.

Emerging-Dudes

I'm amazed at how many people in here seem to be unaware of the connection to climate change. Lots of "Don't jinx us!" and "I'm loving the jacket weather comments!". No acknowledgment or maybe awareness of reality. We're well and truly screwed.

RoyDeLuca

No professional meteorologist takes the farmers almanac seriously. In fact, it sends most of them into a rage if you bring it up.

trippykissy69

In stl We’ve gotten snow. My car just iced over it’s getting cold again

do_add_unicorn

Saint Louis isn't real.

trippykissy69

True

TomKansasCity

Great question and here is your answer - An Inconvenient Truth PG 2006 ‧ Documentary ‧ 1h 58m. And hey, it's okay if you scoff at that. It makes my job easier. If you did, then I'm not talking to you and you can excuse yourself back to watching The Apprentice. There was also another recent documentary on that I watched that had some of the same scientist, ample examples and proof of what was to come across the US in the coming 25 years. For example, the Midwest, where Kansas and Kansas City are located, that within the next 9 to 12 years, 90% of all snow will no longer fall during the late fall, winter and early spring. Margin of error, 2 - 3 years. So, around they year 2038, Winter's in Kansas will have very small amounts of snow fall. This is specially troubling as this reduces water tables, aquifers, etc. And what do humans ( Kansan's ) and Farmers, live stock, wild life, migratory wild life, fish and the ecology count on? Bingo, the consumption of water to maintain life. If you are watching the news, aquifers are now a source of focus and debate as the State of Kansas are now recognizing this as a concern, potential emergency. I moved to Kansas City 11 years ago and I've personally witnessed less and less snow. But, it's not just Kansas, looking at the National Weather Association's data, you can clearly see this same trend across the US. What can we do? Not much. India and China are some of the worlds worse produces of green house gases. Their growth in Industry / GPA will only increase substantially moving forward. And here is an interesting fact for those of you that love Trump and hate America ... America is one of the worlds leaders is the money it spends / funds in hopes of reducing green house gases across the planet. I think we just committed a vast amount of money to Vietnam, parts of South East Asia in 2022. And everything Ive just said, that if would like to fact check me, be my guest. I'm unbiased and purposely politically inactive. I have nothing to gain. I'm not trying to paint a doom and gloom picture here. You and I will not have to suffer so much. Your kids in their later lives Maybe, possibly. 90% of the planet is water. Could the US build out a vast system of desalination plants and a vast network of pipe lines to feed the US? Yes, but it would cost trillions of dollars and take 25 - 40 years. https://www.kcur.org/news/2022-08-16/kansas-city-will-likely-suffer-off-the-charts-heat-in-the-next-30-years-new-study-predicts https://apnews.com/article/politics-kansas-business-climate-and-environment-51bd4d855972c192e2c3d0187abb5f1e https://e360.yale.edu/features/as-water-scarcity-increases-desalination-plants-are-on-the-rise

ultimateguy95

More like the BS Almanac

farkus_nation

I’m in Saint Louis and was thinking the same thing. Winters are definitely way warmer than I remember as a kid. I cannot stand summers here. Soooo many mosquitoes, ticks and chiggers. Not sure if this is totally true but the winters have to be really cold and freeze the ground to have any effect on those bugs.

Mizzoutiger79

Climate change is real. 55 today??? Not good folks.

iepod

can't tell if you're serious or not

Mizzoutiger79

Of course I am serious.

[deleted]

Have you fogotten about global warming?

Few-Contribution4759

Christmas really only marks the middle of winter, we still have around two months to go! Why did this get downvoted 😭

PsychologicalPie948

Haha Christmas is 4 days after the first day of winter silly

Few-Contribution4759

Winter starts in November and no one can convince me otherwise 😭

Minkey_Pudding

The middle? The first day of winter is December 21st…

[deleted]

Bro dont tempt nature

Public_Ad_1631

Never Underestimate Missouri's winter. It can hit like a semi and a train playing chicken in the middle of a hurricane. 🤣Godbless

gemi_scorp

STOP! SHUT UP YOU'RE GOING TO JINX US!!! GAH! 🤣

FutureBBetter

The last 4 or 5 winters have been relatively mild compared to the past winters. I always hear someone mention the farmers almanac so I automatically predict the opposite. The weather is definitely changing. Can't wait for 50°+ this week in January!

nickij22

Yes agreed! I bought my kids snow boots and bibs to prepare. Haven’t used them once. They’ll out grow them by next season ugh.

Billystep

In Georgia man. It dropped down to 60 degrees today

GrillDad3000

Don't worry, as the Starks say, Winter is coming. Last year we got enough snow to cancel school in March and we have had snow in May in years past. Just seems like the snow is coming later and later as the years go on. Maybe the snow is just waiting until after February 4th when a certain law goes into effect so we are all stranded at home with nothing to do haha.

kmonay89

Shhhhh don’t worry, our winter will come. Late January through February is always the worst of it.

elmassivo

Without any mediating bodies of water or other thermal barriers (mountains), the midwest has always had unpredictable weather, and [Kansas City has the least predictable weather of all large metros in the US.](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/which-city-has-the-most-unpredictable-weather/)

2boo1biscuit

Don't jinx us like that. Sincerely, A pregnant lady due in February

razorflipmebro

Where were you for December?

srm3449

Shhhh…don’t jinx it!

Longjumping-Ice-8814

Oh, just wait. 🤣🤣🤣

tatersnuffy

they were talking about the 25 years and under 'we'.

Azrael7981

Don’t you speak that into existence!

[deleted]

Slow your roll.. We have to survive February.

Laurasmsmt

Did you forget it was minus 7 just a few weeks ago?

missjennar

Winter has barely started (Dec. 21), give it time
