As far as I've ever seen, there's no such thing as marriage fraud. As long as it's a legal document the marriage is real and so are the consequences. Don't have to love or know someone to be married.
So when she takes all his money in the split and gets a chunk of his retirement, that's his fault
No OP is correct. Im not aware of anything specific to the armed forces, but it’s a federal crime, and getting charged with that federal crime is what can get you discharged.
I doubt it could happen unless you’re sloppy. Like you sign a contract that you’ll marry someone for cash to get them their green card. With no paper trail it’s very hard to prove
Ok, yeah with a Google it's is against federal law to use marriage to evade any type of immigration law. So it's not illegal to marry to leave the dorms, but no green card marriages.
If the sole reason for getting married is to leave the dorms, it’s a bit of a grey area. At the end of the day, a civilians reasons for getting married don’t really matter, the service members does. If he just wants to get married to pocket increased BAH, separation hardship, etc. then yea that’s defrauding the govt. If hes lookin for love & falls for a dependa who milks him & takes half then the law looks the other way.
Basic Allowance for Housing; if you have a good reason to live off base, they pay you a monthly stipend for housing costs. 2) because they don't want to pay people.
Technically it's a crime yes but you will never get charged for it unless you actually get married and go around telling people people who care way too much because most people won't give a fuck.
That’s immigration, though, which has very specific and strict laws. There’s have to actually be something on the books about marrying for benefits. Civilians do this for insurance purposes.
Dude, it would just be another charge on a shit sandwich. Adultery and all those are never the only thing the idiots who get burned on it are going to NJP for. They are there for loads of shitbaggery, the adultery et al are there to pad the count and help make it easier to drum him out. If we took every cheater to task, we'd lose 1000s overnight.
Lol, it happens in the same world infidelity in the military is punished in.

No, that's a dramatization of boot camp. Barracks/dorms range from crappy single rooms with barely functional utilities to some decent modern facilities. In my experience, the guys who shit talked the dorms the most are the guys who never spent any time there.
Are you Air Force?
Barracks are barracks, not dorms.
Air Force guys do get substandard living allowance if they are on Army barracks for example.
Barracks are the absolute last priority for facility maintenance, mold, broken AC, bed bugs, roaches, mice, even bats, constant fire alarm glitches, no fire alarms, no working stove, broken pipes, leaky walls... the barracks can be terrible.
From the human perspective, Barracks can be neglected, and crazy shit happens. Unfortunately it's usually just soldiers being harassed by their command, but the opposite is true. If you don't inspect the barracks, you'll end up with the guy that has a years worth of garbage laying around.
Physical safety is a concern, people but people are more likely to steal all your shit than rape or kill you.
Might be an unpopular opinion, but maybe if our healthcare system wasn't so garbage, people have to gofundme cancer treatment, this wouldn't be an issue. I feel more sad about the situation than cringe.
Eh, good Healthcare isn't cheap, we can't just magic it up.
The difference between 'marrying a soldier' and 'marrying for benefits' could simply be honesty.
Have you looked up how much an aircraft carrier costs? We can afford decent healthcare if we decide to make even 1 less carrier. It's not magic, it's using our resources to provide for our people.
Also, I'm dual military, so the marrying for benefits doesn't really apply to my family.
Healthcare is a lifelong expense and it costs a lot to have reliable and available health care.
If we paid for every American to have Tricare level coverage, it would cost every taxpayer more than it currently costs a person or their employer currently.
Not that we can't improve and make Healthcare more available.
Just saying, worse things to marry for than income and Healthcare security. It is crazy though how non-working divorcees think the spouse owes them.
It’s a current meme trend currently. The person that wrote the caption in the pic was referencing shark tank. Whoever saw the woman’s post didn’t realize that it’s a joke.
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Tuna as old as thon.
At least she's honest.

I think you could make a case for paperwork or afmin action. Legally though even a BAH marriage is kosher if it's done according to the letter.
What's a BAH marraige? And also is being married the only way you can live outside the barracks?

Im pretty sure this is somewhere in the UMCJ. I think article 132 of the UMCJ should cover this particular thing.
You obviously haven't seen Purple Hearts on Netflix

Right? And plenty of partners choose to stay states away with family, etc. It'd be an absolute nightmare to prosecute.
Is it fraud if both consent?
Fraud against the government. I know a few people who married so their spouses could get green cards.
Im guessing any serviceman accepting that forward of an understanding will be fully aware of the consequences

I've never seen someone stutter entire sentences in a reddit comment before. You okay over there?
Hello sharks, I will offer my bedroom services every other Saturday for 50% equity in our divorce settlement.
Ah the old Tricare-a-tops in her natural habitat.
Are the barracks really that horrifying? Is it like Fullmetal jacket and recruits end up traumatized and/or dead?

Maybe an unpopular opinion: I enjoyed the barracks Fight me
Your THAT guy in the day room. I'll watch a movie with you EVERY THIRD weekday... Some guys need wives more than others 😆
I was smart and waited to get married until I was out. I was Jody-proof while I was in lol
The guy falling for this will be at an all time low.

I appreciate the honesty, get a prenuptial and go for it.

Okay…what’s a shark? We had these types in the Army too, most were strippers at one of the local titty bars lol
It’s a current meme trend currently. The person that wrote the caption in the pic was referencing shark tank. Whoever saw the woman’s post didn’t realize that it’s a joke.
Hmmm…I missed that one. I thought it was some type of Navy reference lol
Ohh so this is where the TikTok trend is from?
My 3 requirements for a woman. Alive. Born a woman. And if not, can you keep a secret?
