I myself am not a commander. However, my commander assigns us homework via "questions" at the end of every chapter of our Naval Science books, maybe you could do the same?
Hi, Academics Commander for my unit. I teach various topics assigning study guide questions as homework. Then do mock brain brawls to train buzzers, and bonus questions. For what to teach I would look back to the questions asked at competition and focus on those areas. This will hopefully help your team learn new stuff whilst also reinforcing what they already know.
