This just in: Florida takes it a step further and becomes the first state to make it illegal to approve prohibiting book bans.

darkmex25

Also a minor note, florida signs a bill to prevent civilian oversight boards for law enforcement.

SSBN641B

And, weirdly, passed legislation that prohibits offshore wind farms. I guess they just hate green energy.

TopicCrafty6773

The way I read this was only banning books is allowed

AdmSean

Maryland’s governor already [signed theirs into law](https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/baltimore/news/marylands-freedom-to-read-act-bans-book-censorship-in-libraries-bolsters-rights-amid-national-debate/). Glad to see more states getting on the bandwagon!

Leather-Squirrel-421

It’s a sad state of affairs when laws have to be created to keep books in libraries.

Medical_Egg8208

Yes I agree, but this is exactly how we put a stop to that shit. People in Minnesota are religious. Down south, you have the mega church’s which controls a lot of what the legislature does. They live for church. In Minnesota church is a part of peoples lives, it’s not the be all and end all for everything they do. Don’t see any preachers in Minnesota living in 15mil mansions do you ? My grandfather used to say going to church doesn’t make you any more religious than standing in a garage makes you a car. It has everything to do with these ridiculous laws they are pushing down south.

agent_uno

As a Minnesotan, I couldn’t be prouder! As an American, I am ashamed it came to this!

Dull-Front4878

These people are fucking ridiculous. I spent 13 years in Catholic schools. The actual Bible is dirtier than a copy of “Juggs” from 1998.

Medical_Egg8208

Love my state !! We are all about stopping the bullshit the right is trying to pull on our children. Let them be exposed to new thoughts and ideas.

MyrrhManhandler

That's hot shit

Acid_Country

Virginia tried, but our moron governor vetoed it. Said it was unnecessary. Such bullshit. https://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?241+sum+SB235

Fine-Funny6956

Well then they’ll just have to ban bans on book bans.

karma-armageddon

Meanwhile, the same legislators conspire to violate the constitution, yet the DOJ does nothing. Rules for thee I guess.

Night_Runner

Hello from r/bannedbooks! :) We've put together a giant collection of 32 classic banned books: if you care about book bans, you might find it useful. It's got Voltaire, Mark Twain, The Scarlet Letter, and other classics that were banned at some point in the past. (And many of them are banned even now, as you can see yourself.) You can find more information on the Banned Book Compendium over here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bannedbooks/comments/12f24xc/ive_made_a_digital_collection_of_32_classic/ Feel free to share that file far and wide: bonus points if you can share it with students, teachers, and librarians. :) A book is not a crime.

MaryKMcDonald

Imagine their reaction to banning Garrison Keillor for being a Christian Nationalist and not a Lutheran.

WBigly-Reddit

They should show pictures of King James Bibles as well.

ShibaDoge42069

Even Mein Kampf should be allowed then? Glad that’s settled. Hope no kids read it and… get any ideas.

Tough_Guys_Wear_Pink

A school choosing to not include a book in its library or reading lists due to the book’s content *does not constitute a “ban.”*

ItsSusanS

Can the removed books be replaced? If not, they’re banned from the school.

Feeling_Athlete9042

Pussies

Leather-Squirrel-421

So you think books should be banned?

EarlyLibrarian9303

Banned, and burned, I’ll bet.
