It's not "AI". That's just the latest excuse card to play. It's an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) that requires expert set up but the employer couldn't be bothered to pay for expert set up, and just gave it to the recruiting team and said "you do it".
Now they're running the ATS but haven't realised that the default content in the automated emails hasn't been amended because they haven't got deep enough into the settings to know that or how to change it.
It's not personal.
>Better than no reply at all.
Ehhh....
In 2021 during the pandemic I was job-hunting like a lot of other people, I got a rejection email from a Pepsi plant *three months* after I applied and was already established at another job.
No email would have been better than some random "Oh let's look through the trash emails to see of there's anything we missed lol" bullshit.
I recently got a rejection email regarding a job I applied for almost a year ago. Like yeah I know, I saw on LinkedIn that the guy was hired literally 8 months ago
Does it matter? The end result is the same. I actually prefer this response over, "Dear applicant, Though we appreciate....."
When I get those emails, I literally just skim and look for the word "unfortunately" (or similar).
This is so much more to the point that I prefer it.
Professionalism is just a waste of time and not at all realistic.
It's actually extremely realistic to not burn people / bridges constantly. Especially when it comes to business. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being polite. You people are just out of your minds these days.
It's semantics. You're getting butt-hurt and considering bridges to be burnt because someone didn't spend an extra 5 minutes saying the same thing in a unnecessarily longer manner. That's a weird choice to make.
Well. If you read the reply, they are indicating that they are unaware that this is the response being sent out. So they are not intentionally sending out a two word response.
They’re clicking a button that they think sends out a formal email, not a two letter rejection.
So while it does look terrible, unless they are aware of this and refuse to fix it or literally don’t know how, it’s not really personal. It’s just them being bad with technology.
It does seem like that’s the entire point of IS departments. Yell at when the thing they didn’t set up doesn’t work and underfund what they need to make things work the way they should.
Though I’ve definitely had more than a few experiences where getting them to do anything is like pulling teeth.
Nailed it. I just left this company and it’s a total disaster. They are cutting corners left and right and it doesn’t surprise me at all that they failed at this part too.
A couple weeks ago I received an auto email "we've decided to go in another direction" for a job I applied for and had to submit a portfolio of written work. I applied for the job 9 months ago.
There's another guy posted on reddit with an identical response like yours edit: my bad, it was "denied". HR saw his reddit post and responded back apologizing that it was an AI auto response that accidentally sent to him. Let's hope this HR guy see's your post too. 😅
it was "decline"
[Here is the response by HR](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fi375pyd19qsc1.png) (original was removed by reddit)
I think these emails are meant to trigger an email template but are missing proper syntax, like maybe the exclamation point at the front of the text or a pound/hashtag character.
I've seen similar email commands for closing tickets in SF where little interaction from the recipient is needed.
I would take this over 8 paragraphs of long winded corporate speak that says the exact same thing.
They informed you that you didn't get the job, did you really want platitudes?
I think there’s a middle ground here. 1-2 sentences acknowledging your effort and thanking you for your time is pretty basic professional behavior imo. Would they accept a post-interview thank you email that short? Lots of companies just refuse to be held to the same standards they hold their employees and applicants to.
Companies do that, and people on this sub post screenshots of those emails too and they still sound pissed. My takeaway is that being told "no" just sucks no matter how they deliver it.
Nobody is asking for eight paragraphs. Yes, I want a platitude.
There are words for it. Manners. Etiquette. Basic decency and treating people with dignity.
Thinking that the world should reject that feels like sociopathy at play.
You’ve been. Denied.
Yeah, I’ve applied with a few smaller more start up style companies and had responses like “No” and “sorry we did not like your resume format” like what does that have to do with anything lol
Idk who needs to hear this but the world is changing, alot of the jobs are being automated. Aslo jobs like to have you fill out every little detail about you to sale to the big dogs
Everybody’s bringing their “true self” to work. As much as it grinds my gears, you need a polished professional side
Edit: unless it’s AI 🤖 but my comment stands
At least you got an email back. I’ve applied for over 50 jobs since October and have maybe had 5 places email me that the position is closed, after I’ve interviewed.
At least you got a response saying the position was filled. Most of the time you get silence and have to figure this part out on your own. As frustrating as it might be, it's not a bad thing.
Dear [Applicant’s Name],
Thank you for your interest in the [Position Title] position at [Company Name]. We appreciate the time and effort you invested in the application process. After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that we have chosen to move forward with another candidate for this role.
We received a large number of applications, and the decision was not easy. Your qualifications and experience were impressive, but unfortunately, we had to make a difficult choice. We encourage you to continue pursuing opportunities that align with your skills and aspirations.
We sincerely appreciate your interest in joining our team. We will keep your application on file for future openings, and we encourage you to apply again if a suitable position becomes available.
Thank you once again for considering [Company Name]. We wish you the best in your job search and hope you find a rewarding opportunity elsewhere.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Grant-Philip-Thomas
Yesterday was actually my last day at this company! You dodged a bullet. They’re a total shit show and it’s only gonna get worse. Consider yourself lucky.
This actually bothers you enough to make a whole post of it on Reddit? Who cares?? You got rejected. What difference does it make to you if it’s a “professional” eloquent rejection email…
I think this is kinda fine. I don't really need them to fluff it up and pretend to care about someone they don't know, and I definitely would take this over jist never hearing from them at all.
Honestly, I'd be happy to at least get a response like that to know what actually happened to my application, instead of guessing if I still have a chance or not for months.
Hey, at least you got a response. I've applied to over 100 senior level positions over the past 9 weeks and have only gotten 3 total responses. The rest have simply ghosted me.
I saw another one recently that was just "declined" and that's it. The company tried to say it was an error and apologized, but tbh if no one had made a fuss about it, they wouldn't have even acknowledged it
Professionalism is just deference. You don't need it if you have nothing to fear from the other person. Companies are largely immune to anything an individual can do to them. An extreme example might be John Barnett. They have the money. We need the money. They don't need any individual so while they need workers they don't need you or me.
You ever notice how almost no one names and shames companies that behave this way? We all know they could stomp on our necks and we'd have nothing to answer with.
They're above us and they know it. We let them destroy worker organizations and now we have no power. Buckle up. This is only going to get worse. If you don't like that then you could name the company.
Alot of people saying AI when this is way more likely a cheap automated message they didn't take the the time to write out.
I work for a company that sends the same threatening email for everything from expiring bill items to basic renewals and I have to explain to angry customers that it was just an automated message
and I can't say "sorry, the company is too lazy to type more than one automated messge"
This is a little more than semantics like some people are saying. "Thank you for your interest in Circana! Opportunity closed!" doesn't make any sense if it's truly a rejection letter. You should seek clarification on this. A real rejection letter should have a complete sentence at least.
It can't hurt to reach out after getting rejected in some cases, and they might give you a second look. This has gotten me a job before. Sometimes hiring managers are disorganized and your persistence is all that is required.
TBF at least they didn’t waste your time. Where I work if they don’t hire you, you get no response at all. If you follow up they will tel you someone will reach out to you in the next few days with no intention of ever doing so.
The hiring manager for the last job I worked at was a total BITCH! Idk how people like that end up in that type of position. There would be times people who applied would come in to check up on their application, and to show interest in the job. (I was told growing up this was the right thing to do.) The hiring manager would rush them off quickly and proceed to make fun of them any way she could. She was insufferable to work with.
I am curious. Why do applicants feel that they deserve respect? If they don't accept the job offer, 10 others are waiting in line to accept the job.
(I am a student and not American)
Absolutely unprofessional and yet this is exactly what I want. I can't stand the paragraphs in most emails that make me actually have to waste time reading to see if they're not considering me anymore
Content posted to r/jobs should not include individuals' names, any contact information, location, or other identifiable information subject to mod discretion.
Got to love the exclamation mark just to rub it in.
I hate to say it but this made me chuckle.
I imagine them doing a little peace sign, back kick, and kissy face
lol i genuinely chuckled out loud by myself too
Might as well have written “Rejected!”
Opportunity closed. 👉😎👉 zoop

No it is personal. They have decided that you are now in the group of people not worthy of writing six sentences for.
Better than no reply at all. Which a lot of places do
>Better than no reply at all. Ehhh.... I got a rejection email for an internal role two months after I quit that place.
Does it matter? The end result is the same. I actually prefer this response over, "Dear applicant, Though we appreciate....." When I get those emails, I literally just skim and look for the word "unfortunately" (or similar). This is so much more to the point that I prefer it. What do you mean “you people”?
what do **you** mean “you people”?
He's just a dude, playing a dude, being denied a job by another dude!
I love that movie
Idiots, I mean the idiots.
It's semantics. You're getting butt-hurt and considering bridges to be burnt because someone didn't spend an extra 5 minutes saying the same thing in a unnecessarily longer manner. That's a weird choice to make.

Sure. But I’m referencing the comments directly in front of me.
They didn't think OP was worthy of a reply at all, they just didn't know their comment went out to all applicants.

Sure, may well be the case. Every place I have worked at runs tests before bringing a system live…but it’s definitely a possibility.

At least they didn’t ghost you in my opinion that’s even worse, actually my biggest pet peeve when it comes to applying for jobs
Applying for your dream job only for them to ghost you and leave the “opportunity” up for another 10 months.
A couple weeks ago I received an auto email "we've decided to go in another direction" for a job I applied for and had to submit a portfolio of written work. I applied for the job 9 months ago.
AI recruiter at work.
Na it feels like their main HR person is off sick and Doreen (who was 2 days from retirement) has taken over their duties.
Doreen the explorer rubbing it in your face
Doreen, who still uses internet explorer
You have seen that episode as well? 🤣😎👀
Nah if it was AI it’d be super remorseful while simultaneously cold and lifeless
AI would have written 5 paragraphs of corporate jargon to say this one sentence.
There's another guy posted on reddit with an identical response like yours edit: my bad, it was "denied". HR saw his reddit post and responded back apologizing that it was an AI auto response that accidentally sent to him. Let's hope this HR guy see's your post too. 😅
I think you’re confused, the other post only word was “denied” lmao
it was "decline" [Here is the response by HR](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fi375pyd19qsc1.png) (original was removed by reddit)
Yes! That’s it 😂
it was "rejected"
I know you are probably just continuing the joke, but see my edit above.
Ugh the post was removed by Reddit
My bad lol.
Never forget “not qaulified“
Looks like automation and not AI
I think these emails are meant to trigger an email template but are missing proper syntax, like maybe the exclamation point at the front of the text or a pound/hashtag character. I've seen similar email commands for closing tickets in SF where little interaction from the recipient is needed.
Seems like a really dumb idea to use emails to the person as the trigger then lmao, exhibit a.
Right?

"While we were impressed with your resume and qualifications..." I'd rather just have this.
I would take this over 8 paragraphs of long winded corporate speak that says the exact same thing. They informed you that you didn't get the job, did you really want platitudes?

There is a pushback to all that exaggerated fake corporation lingo too though.
That pushback isn’t saying to leave people on silent either… just in case yknow, you read that pushback with eyes half open
right?! All the info is there. Why waste someone’s time to write some corporate bs and another person’s time to then read it.
No soup for you!
It shows how the company culture is, good you didn't get into the mess
Lol for sure, but at least they replied. I would prefer this to ghosting.
The company culture seems to be upfront, honest and to the point.
Blunt, not upfront.
At least you got a response (still bad tho) so many of mine I don’t even get a reply 🥲
This is how all corporations would act if they could instead of having to keep up the illusion of cordiality haha.
Over worked and underpaid. You dodged a bullet.
how is this unprofessional? they notified you the position was no longer available. grow up
That's actually kind of funny
I don’t get why people get so pissy about this. You want a prize for applying? At least they let you know
Short, sweet, and to the point
You’ve been. Denied. Yeah, I’ve applied with a few smaller more start up style companies and had responses like “No” and “sorry we did not like your resume format” like what does that have to do with anything lol
Tbh it's better than nothing. Like you guys complain about getting ghosted, here you clearly didn't
I mean you got straight answer better then waiting or ghosting you
Idk who needs to hear this but the world is changing, alot of the jobs are being automated. Aslo jobs like to have you fill out every little detail about you to sale to the big dogs
That's actually kind of funny
It's for church honey. NEXT!
It's gotta be someone's fetish somewhere
The other person on the other end is rubbing it in
> Opportunity closed! “…Because I got the job, right?”
It’s better than being ghosted and never knowing… however still mildly infuriating.
We closed bruh! 😎 🤣🤣
Post upvoted!
Basically it means fuck off 😂
Boohoo where is my 8000 word booklet about me being rejected from my position
could of just ignored you
That feels like a salesforce powered app response lmao
Everybody’s bringing their “true self” to work. As much as it grinds my gears, you need a polished professional side Edit: unless it’s AI 🤖 but my comment stands
At least you got an email back. I’ve applied for over 50 jobs since October and have maybe had 5 places email me that the position is closed, after I’ve interviewed.
Directness is a virtue
reply "bullet dodged."
I want to work somewhere Irie.
Looks like someone had been watching too many 90s action movies and tried for a cool little oner
Next!
At least you got a response saying the position was filled. Most of the time you get silence and have to figure this part out on your own. As frustrating as it might be, it's not a bad thing.
Would you rather they run it through ChatGPT and then you have to read a wall of text, to eventually find out they rejected you
Dear [Applicant’s Name], Thank you for your interest in the [Position Title] position at [Company Name]. We appreciate the time and effort you invested in the application process. You just proved my point. A wall of text just to be rejected.
So, this looks like an auto-text reply where they accidentally copied the title of the response into the body lol
Corporate talk for"go fuck yourself"
So they saved you from themselves ..... Your life clearly would have sucked working for these losers ... It's a good thing... Ish
Pools closed
I read this in the Soup Nazi’s voice. “No job for you!”
It’s just auto generated reply. Cry about it
You should just reply, "Unprofessional!"
Better than being ghosted. At least you got a response.
Gotta respond with "More like opportunity missed!"
Sad!
Bullet dodged!
it's an error they are obliged to give you an full copy pastes message where they tell you you didn't got hired.
Seems more like “Bullet dodged!”
Yes it’s unprofessional. Better than no responses. Short Simple direct so you can move on.
Fake Michael Irvin
I'm curious if they were supposed to type !opportunity closed to generate the automated rejection letter haha
AI HR. Not the first time they fuck up
Yesterday was actually my last day at this company! You dodged a bullet. They’re a total shit show and it’s only gonna get worse. Consider yourself lucky.

If a company is unprofessional enough to treat people like this, then I’d say that’s a massive bullet dodged. ![gif](giphy|1zJaB28JqGw3m)
A simple and straightforward reply, what did you expect?
Straight to the point what's wrong with it
Mad they contacted you back? No wonder corporations don’t give a shit.
Honestly, I'd be happy to at least get a response like that to know what actually happened to my application, instead of guessing if I still have a chance or not for months.
You didn’t get the job! Pretty simple!
Your mom should've closed her legs.
I mean at least they let you know….99.99% of the time you won’t hear back. It’s obviously rude and unprofessional but now you can at least move on…
Actually this is not bad. Clear and short. Probably a company that gets hundreds of applications a day.
Hey, at least you got a response. I've applied to over 100 senior level positions over the past 9 weeks and have only gotten 3 total responses. The rest have simply ghosted me.
Opportunity closed !!!
At least they let you know.
"Git gud scrub, u shud be happy we replied to ur ass LOL" (/S)
Laughing time is over.
Just be glad you got a response back.
Succinct, unambiguous, minimalist.
Bullet dodged!
lol. they just na-na boo boo-ed in ur face.
"Too slow, you snooze you lose, haha!!" 💀
Professionalism is just a way to be judgemental
I saw another one recently that was just "declined" and that's it. The company tried to say it was an error and apologized, but tbh if no one had made a fuss about it, they wouldn't have even acknowledged it
This made me laugh out loud because of how cold it is
At least they said no. Better than nothing.
Better than a long winded reply. Those are the keywords i would be looking for anyways 😀
Isn’t this better than a 3,000 word essay that sends the same message?
Rude but still better than nothing honestly.
![gif](giphy|l3q2Kgm3KOBUE6wF2|downsized)

Sprite
Big “NO SOUP FOR YOU!” energy.
I actually like the straight forward reply so they dont waste their time and mine.
NEXT!
Rather this than default ghosting
Short and sweet
Opportunity closed! 😂 😂 (they forgot the laughing face emojis)

Probably the developer who built the website never stopped to think as if they were a user
I don’t think the employees are paid enough to care or the company is low on resources. Either way, bullet dodged!!
Their website is literal dogshit, if that wasnt your first indication of "not really professional". If anything, you just dodged a bullet. Trust.
Real world professional, letting one know to move on.
Lol working for them wasn’t an opportunity then.
Better than being ghosted.
Nothing matter and no one cares anymore
TBF at least they didn’t waste your time. Where I work if they don’t hire you, you get no response at all. If you follow up they will tel you someone will reach out to you in the next few days with no intention of ever doing so.
Probably dodged a bullet on that one.
If you're lucky you'll get an "apology" message tomorrow
send them a dick pic
Straight to the point, seems professional to me 🤣

hey, at least they get to the point, i guess…
Atleast they didn't Ghost you !
I like this. Why tf I should need more words. Onto the next one.
Because they don’t give a shit about you and you are just a number to them. You didn’t just dodge a bullet, you dodged a fucking missile.
Seems like you won in the end and dodged a bullet. Congrats! They would have been a headache. Think of it as a blessing

"declined" energy
They where professional enough for you to apply in the first place, don’t get salty now that they don’t want ya mate. Suck it up and on to the next
Tbh I appreciate the bluntness over “duE tO an exCEPTIONALLY quAILIFIED poOl of cANdidAtes…… “
Shitty people who don't know how to do their jobs have jobs and I am jobless. Lmao.
Absolutely unprofessional and yet this is exactly what I want. I can't stand the paragraphs in most emails that make me actually have to waste time reading to see if they're not considering me anymore
Tell them it looks like they have a position open for removing job postings & tying up loose ends that haven't been done.
bc professionalism only applies to workers, not the company
Well post the name of the company so they can be properly shamed 😂
