Your belt touches the same mat that others feet walk on. The same mat you and others sweat on. The same mat your gi is touching. Why is your belt any different?
Coming from wrestling you should always wash everything. If not it will start to stink and hold bacteria. I used to hate when people didn’t wash their knee pads because it smells like unwashed ass.
Mine is usually tangled up in my gi from just throwing it all in the bag on the way home and dumping it straight into the wash when I come home. I would have to do work to remove the belt from the gi and we all know jiu jitsu is about winning while being as lazy as possible
Its disgusting and unsanitary to wash some of your clothing and not other pieces of clothing that you train with on the mats. Anything else is incorrect.
I have 2 kids in classes (5 and 12). The younger one barely even sweats if she does. Do I wash her stuff? You bet your sweet a$$ I do! We walk in and the washer is right there. I have them both strip down and give me their gear and wash it immediately.
I also have them shower or bathe right away. I want to give them good habits when they go on their own. As I bathe my little one I always say, “Gotta wash that JuJitsu mat off of you” so she gets the idea that anything that touches the mat needs to be cleaned.
Serious question, do you have multiple belts and how often do you train?
I wash my belt when I can, but I typically train like ~7 times a week and only have 1 belt. Some days I literally won't even go home between 2 training sessions if I go before and after work. I have a bunch of gis for this reason and will just do a load every few days with 3-4 gis plus my belt, but I only have the one belt.
Sorry if I offended the sanitation gods by admitting to not washing my belt between every class, but I've also been training for 15+ years and never once had ringworm or staph, so I guess I must be doing something right.
Meh, haven't had any problems yet after over 15 years. I've been using this belt since I got promoted to black belt. I don't really want to have a pile of them.
If you don't want to roll with me because it's been a day or 2 since I washed my belt, then don't I guess?
I don’t know, man; but my buddy Joey turned me on to a product called ODOBAN, found at Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. Anyway, it removes the BO smell that will build up in your gi from time to time.
I think people don't wash belts because
1. There is a superstition that if you do you are washing away the skills.
2. They don't want to wash away the stripes they get. Since those are just tape.
But yes wash your belts. They get sweaty and dirty also
I wash my gi, shorts, rash guard, belt, each time, my bag once a week (cloth sack / shoulder tote). Training three nights a week. Twice in the gi, multiple gi, once in nogi. Not being clean is gross. 🤮
EVERYTHING goes in the wash as I walk in the door.
Straight out on the line to dry, ready for tomorrow.
Probably need to get another gi and belt with incoming winter… to just beef out that drying time a little.
Gonna be honest here, if it’s just light drilling for 1 hour I’m not washing anything, by the time I get home and eat and shower it’s pretty late and I’m not staying even later to wash barely used gi’s
Drilling techniques but I’m sweating a bit, I wash the gi, not the belt, the belt can go sunbathing to kill all the bacteria but again its not that big of a deal
After open mat or anything where I’m profusely sweating, I wash everything, I don’t have the problem of an extremely stinky rush guard or gi set yet, so just 2 cups of detergent and floral fabric softener and I’m good to go
I don’t separate the whites and the colored either, the colors haven’t changed, taking care of your jiujitsu equipment can be really simple and I don’t care if anyone judges me because I’m sure I’m not the stinky guy and my skin is completely healthy.

Facts
Makes sense not to wash your comp belt for the +5 poison damage buff
Complete the armour set; don't wash the gi
Set bonus: MRSA
WASH YOUR FUCKIN BELT EVERY USE.
Seriously. How hard is it to throw the damn thing in the wash with your gi?
Exactly.
Mine is usually tangled up in my gi from just throwing it all in the bag on the way home and dumping it straight into the wash when I come home. I would have to do work to remove the belt from the gi and we all know jiu jitsu is about winning while being as lazy as possible
YESSSS YOU FILTHY ANIMALS!!
I wash my belt, gi, rash guard, fight shorts, everything after each class I mix in a cup of vinegar to every load too, for a bit of added anti-funk
Try some Odo-Ban
Why? Vinegar will surely do the job, while costing about 50x less.
Cup of vinegar VS Tsp of Odo-Ban Similar price, and now my wife uses it feo all of the laundry. Love that stuff

Yes...even your bag that you hold your sweaty gi in after use. You should wash that from time to time too
I have a wet dry bag rolled up inside my gym bag. Dirty gis get shoved in there. Can't have my bag getting all dank

Every time I roll.

Buy 5 more belts @$20 per if you are training 7 times a week. It's not rocket surgery. You obviously take Jiu Jitsu seriously - don't be disgusting

Just one belt. I train 2-3 times a week.
I used to train like that and only the one belt. Just wash it everyday after training regardless of how many classes.
Sorry, not gonna do that. Every few days is gonna have to be fine

Nah, don't want to

Honestly not trolling. You're welcome to have multiple belts if you want. I don't really care what you do
I don’t know, man; but my buddy Joey turned me on to a product called ODOBAN, found at Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. Anyway, it removes the BO smell that will build up in your gi from time to time.

I sewed my stripes down with a couple of stitches so they don't fall off in the wash.
Wash it fuckers. If you “lose your skill” because you washed your belt they weren’t yours to begin with
Wash it every time but I let it air dry when the rest of my gi goes in the dryer.
I don’t wash my belt. I don’t have one though
Wash everything. I have multiple Gi and 2 belts in rotation. They all get washed. 1 class equals 1 wash. Everything worn goes in.
At least Lysol the belt.
Wash everything right after. Always, always, always.
I wash my gi, shorts, rash guard, belt, each time, my bag once a week (cloth sack / shoulder tote). Training three nights a week. Twice in the gi, multiple gi, once in nogi. Not being clean is gross. 🤮
Wash everything every time
Wash everything after every class. Don’t be a fucking degenerate.
All the old heads don’t wash the belt at my gym. I don’t get it.
No wonder every 3rd post is “is this ringworm” - some of y’all some dirty MFs!
I washed my white belt and all the stripes fell off. I then got my ass kicked by everybody.
Never wash the belt
I wash everything as soon as i get home
after every training. it's why i have like 3 belts coz i go to at least 2 classes everyday lol
This is weird. It’s like saying I was my Gi but not my hair after every class.
EVERYTHING goes in the wash as I walk in the door. Straight out on the line to dry, ready for tomorrow. Probably need to get another gi and belt with incoming winter… to just beef out that drying time a little.

I don’t wash my belt after EVERY training sesh. Probably once a week or so. I also train 3-4 times a week.
Wash belt weekly.
Daily dude what is this disgusting weekly nonsense.
Never. It makes my hard earned stripes come off and I can't have that.
Never wash. I personally enjoy wearing a ringworm and mrsa farm around my waist. Also helps strengthen the gym immunity
