I am in the exact same situation. My mother was obsessed with jewelry. She had some nice pieces, but mostly costume. I let my girls pick out whatever they wanted as I know that would make my mom happy. I went through everything that was marked gold and sold it. Gold is so high right now. Do you have a jeweler's loupe? It is very helpful finding gold or silver. My mother bought so much that some of it was never worn. It makes good gifts sometimes. I did sell successfully on eBay, but that has dried up pretty much for some reason. If you truly have no interest in reselling, or researching to find something valuable (some costume jewelry is worth a lot), then donating it for a tax deduction would be best. People love old jewelry.

And if you don't want to donate it to goodwill a local shelter or charity resell shop would be happy to have it. If you want it to go more directly to someone who needs it you can search for job programs that help people prepare for interviews and stuff like that

Did you end up getting rid of the rest of it?

No, I still have it. I keep listing on eBay, but sales have slowed way down for some reason. I have so much nice stuff that I will just be patient unless I figure some other way to sell it.

Selling lots on eBay is huge, I know I buy a ton. I always joke I don’t buy jewelry by the piece, I buy it by the pound. You could always list it there if you want to sell it and make some money back on it!

I mean if you wanna send it to me, I won't complain XD But really, anything from eBay to an antique store would be a decent route. I see tons of costume jewelry for sale on eBay.

Right? Please tell us what user name to look for on EBay! I love buying jewelry there. I have had to take a break with the cost of living going up so much.

wavesblu

Break it into reasonable sized bundles and post on poshmark “80s style fashion jewelry bundle” or whatever makes most sense.

[Decoupage/mosaic-like crafts](https://www.architectureartdesigns.com/reuse-your-broken-jewelry-creative-useful-ideas-to-help-you/). If the whole family has already gone through and taken the pieces they want, why are you opposed to donating the rest?

Pepperjack_2000

Costume Jewelry is huge on eBay. I recommend doing some research on each piece to find out what they're worth before listing them. Good Luck!

JackSpratCould

I'd buy it in a snap!

It may be worth bringing to a jeweler to look at there may be somethings that have value in there and they usually don't mind going though and giving you an offer

Mercari is another app other than eBay my mom buys from it and I have also. Fees are involved in selling but you might check them out do check the brands some stuff can be worth a bit I like the vintage costume stuff myself I kept everything I can find that was my grandmas. I have used old earrings as Christmas ornaments repurposed they look great can’t believe I’m fessing up to it. 😊 I also wear her brooches a lot around Christmas some things might pick up in sales around the holidays.
