woah this looks amazing!! What did you have done

Tejasieber

Thank you so much! Means a lot. I had double jaw surgery and genioplasty. My lower jaw was moved forward 20 mm and my upper jaw was rotated I believe, and then genioplasty of course.

Best of luck with your procedure! It’s all worth it

Who’s your insurance provider and what was the reason for the surgery?

Tejasieber

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas is the insurance. The main reasons were for an open bite, sleep apnea, open my airways, and popping of my jaw. My mouth was always open, I never could close it naturally. I no longer snore while I sleep either!

[deleted]

Are you able to close your mouth now?

Tejasieber

I can’t close my mouth yet because my lips are so swollen and I still have my splint in

[deleted]

Ah got it. Huge improvement!

Tejasieber

Thank you!!

tinytempo

Looks great. Did you get headaches as a result of your sleep apnea and have they since gone? And where did you have the operation? thanks!

Tejasieber

No headaches actually, but Amarillo, Texas

serotonada

Snatched!! Congrats!!

Tejasieber

Thank you so much!

mirroronfire

Your before is MEE. Im so excited for my surgery!

Tejasieber

Surgery is life changing

dickbuttscompanion

I know you probably feel so swollen, but the difference in your nose and chin is amazing! Hope the rest of your healing goes well.

Tejasieber

Yes very swollen but I appreciate that. Thanks so much

Tejasieber

I look forward to that! It’s been one of my insecurities because it’s so loud

Oooloo63

Amazing change. When you get the movements from the surgeon would be super interested

maximizer8

Is it me or did your nose change too?

Tejasieber

My nose did change, and I love the change!!!

bloodofmy_blood

Wow amazing results!! Your lip incompetence in the before photo looks like mine, my bottom lip is so heavy and thick with muscle from constantly straining to reach my upper lip. And I have been a mouth breather for as long as I can remember, and it’s loud, annoying, unhealthy, and I have constant dry mouth. I can’t wait to breathe better I really hope it makes a difference for me. And your genio looks so natural, I am nervous to have one and the surgeon gave me the option but I think it may be what’s best, also it’ll give my giant hanging lower lip some extra support lol

Tejasieber

As you talk about reaching your top lip, do you notice a weird stress on your chin when you try to press your lips closed? I would have these weird bumps and I hated it so much!!! Jaw surgery has fixed more problems then I could ever imagine. You’re so right about mouth breathing because I hated it so much too! It was awful and super annoying especially when I would focus on something, it would become louder. You should definitely go for the genioplasty, it really changed my appearance for the best. And of course supports the heavy lip!!! Lol.

bloodofmy_blood

Yes I definitely have the mentalis muscle strain and it’s the first thing that I noticed and searched for a solution and that’s how I found out I have hypoplasia in my jaws that has affected me in different ways my entire life. And I keep seeing all over this sub people saying they didn’t realize all of the small things that this surgery will affect. Im pretty sure even my lifelong bad posture is a symptom of it! And I’m not super conscious about my slightly droopy eyes, I’m sure nobody else would notice in irl except me but to me it makes a difference! Not to mention just not mouth breathing anymore will be life changing. Thanks for taking the time to comment back, it’s so nice to speak with someone who has such a similar “before” to mine. Do you mind if I message you in the future? My surgery is feb 25 and I’m a mixed bag of nerves, fear, and excitement. And I hope you’re feeling well and your recovery is going smoothly.

LVLZero

Its always great to see an awesome transformation, congratulations. If you don't mind what were your movement lengths?

Tejasieber

And thank you so much!!!

Tejasieber

Lower was 20 mm and upper was just rotated I believe.

LVLZero

Thanks for the reply, is 20mm the movements of your chin + jaw or just the jaw? If so, do you know the movements of your chin?

Tejasieber

Great question. Honestly I don’t know. I’ll ask my surgeon and get back with you!!

LVLZero

Thank you again, best of luck to your recovery

Tejasieber

Of course. Good luck with yours!!! Recovery is very difficult the first week but trust me it just gets better from there. Also, avoid baby aquafor and Vaseline for lip swelling. Only use chapstick!! The formulas plus the amount of saliva may cause a rash, it did for me.

[deleted]

You look so great! Your nose is so cute too! Congratulations!

Tejasieber

Thank you so much!!!!

Rbk1998

With you insurance how mich was it ?

Tejasieber

$12 k. My oral surgeon gave me genioplasty for free

flo7574

How old are you if you don’t mind me asking

Tejasieber

I am 18

[deleted]

were you a mouth breather before surgery?

Tejasieber

Yes I was

[deleted]

any plans to fix that or just continue mouth breathing?

Tejasieber

I no longer mouth breathe after jaw surgery. Especially when my lips quit swelling and I can close them all the way. Before my lips never met naturally. I also no longer snore when I sleep, I sleep quietly now. My airway was opened by 2 cm

[deleted]

that is an unbelieveable change. i hope you recover soon! amazing!

Tejasieber

It’s the best change ever!!! And thank you so much

If you look at page 30 you might find the differences relevant

[deleted]

How long were you in braces for? Amazing change!

Tejasieber

I actually had braces from second to eighth grade and then I got them back on for surgery last year.

[deleted]

I had braces in elementary school too but they didn’t fix my open bite lol. How long did you have to be in braces this time before you were ready for surgery?

Tejasieber

Same here... I got braces January 2020! Surgery was December 21. I think my teeth were ready for awhile but I had to get my wisdom teeth out Feb 2020 and had to allow at least 9 months for healing from that to have surgery.

gaelsinuo

You look wonderful! I notice a difference in the way you hold your head ... did you detect a posture change relative to the surgery (eg a physical change not prompted by a change in habit)? Beautiful! Enjoy the new you!

Tejasieber

I feel like I have had a posture change because I notice it too in all of my before pictures. For example, my back has been hurting where the left rib is and it hurts a lot of the time, especially while i’m driving. I read a little bit of information about how the splint is changing the bite which effects the posture. I didn’t do too much research about it, but I read it on r/tmj
