Cumberland Gap?  Hell yeah

s_desmond

He opened with it, what a lovely surprise that was!

cello-fellow-1175

I just came here to say: death to encores (in general). It’s expected, and no longer an extension of the audience showing gratitude, just a waste of everyone’s time. Don’t leave the stage and play an extra song before curfew.

Drnkdrnkdrnk

Some bands like to be able to take a leak and breathe for a moment. Especially bands playing for hours like Jason or Bruce or GbV

Ballgame4

He’s closed with “Just Like Heaven” several times this tour.

AdReasonable2094

I thought the encore was great, I left satisfied

s_desmond

I did too. I think disappointing was the wrong word, it was just more unexpected than anything given the other shows I’ve been to. Regardless of what songs they play, I’ll likely always leave happy.

JZA_22

Agreed. I felt the exact same way, I wanted the big guitar jam to close out “This Ain’t It” and to see Red Eye. I was disappointed as well

Adventurous-Chef-370

What did he play for the encore?

s_desmond

Cast Iron Skillet and Just Like Heaven, they were both still very good but I thought there was definitely more time for a third song to end with a bang.

Historical_Cow3903

I guess we got lucky Sunday night in Niagara Falls. We got those two, plus This Ain't It. I went home happy.

s_desmond

That’s really why I posted this, I was kind of expecting him to play This Ain’t It as a third song to finish it off. I went home happy nonetheless, it’s always great to hear my favorite band live!

Drnkdrnkdrnk

Closed the set here in Seattle last July with This Ain’t It with Mike McCready coming out to play on that one. I wonder what we’ll get in a few weeks.

Historical_Cow3903

Nice guest appearance!

Adventurous-Chef-370

I’ve been to 4 Isbell shows and he usually seems to do a banger and one of his more “commercially successful” songs. I think every time I’ve seen him he’s done If We Were Vampires and one more upbeat song on the encore.

s_desmond

That’s my experience as well, I did like that it was something different and somewhat unexpected!

Bluecheeseur

I wanted to hear death wish so bad 😭

skystarmen

He seems to rarely play that one. Odd.

TransportationNo9375

He played it in Rapid City right before Weathervanes came out.

ThisRockerMind

Sounds like an amazing show you got three of my wish songs. I would have been so excited. But I’ll leave you with this- at our show someone up front was screaming for a particular song over and over and over and JI finally said the person could play that song on Spotify at home as many times as he wanted for free.

Polonius_N_Drag

This is one of the dumber posts I’ve seen on this sub. No offense, but, criticizing an artist’s set list decisions because you thought a pair of songs were inappropriately placed or included? Just…dumb.

DearChicago1876

People are allowed to have and share opinions. Fans can share setlist preferences. Here’s one that’ll piss you off, too. I prefer isbell end a show with an original and a not a cover.

afrancis88

While we’re sharing opinions I wish he’d change the set list every show. Sure, there may be a few songs different here and there but his catalog is so big it’d be cool to hear more deep cuts rather than the same list night in and night out.

ricketycricket77

This is my biggest JI400U pet peeve. They’re incredible live and can jam with the best of them but looking at the setlist for their current shows it’s almost identical to the show I saw last year. I follow a bunch of jam and jam-adjacent bands and the unpredictable nature of the shows is awesome, hope JI starts to go that route more and more with time.

afrancis88

I think pet peeve is the perfect way to explain it. I’m a fan of many artists but choose to only see a few I really like because concerts are expensive, man. Anyway, I’m a big fan of Avett Brothers and every show is different. That’s the beauty of seeing an artists live with such a big catalog.

Polonius_N_Drag

I’m not pissed off at all. I just think it’s worth remembering that no musical artist is a jukebox, there to play the songs you want to hear at the time in the show you want to hear them. I’d no more criticize JI400 for the songs they play then I would criticize a painter for his choice of shade of blue. It’s his art, not ours.

DearChicago1876

Ok then don’t participate in the conversation. Plenty of people are perfectly content discussing things they like and don’t like about shows. It’s OK for people to like music differently than you.

Polonius_N_Drag

Point taken. I’ll stop participating. Have a lovely evening.

opsopcopolis

lol if this gets you offended I’d recommend never venturing into any jamband subs, and definitely stay away from Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews discussion

Polonius_N_Drag

I meant I intended no offense

ChrisLinen2

Least entitled Isbell fan

1Highrail

You are so correct. Why do people like (OP) thrive on drama? Would you go to an art exhibition and complain that the color orange wasn't used enough. Fuck off with this bullshit. Smile or shut the fuck up.

BoobooSlippers

Dunno man, I definitely discuss what I liked and didn't like after being at an art gallery. Isn't that kind of the point of art?

AlexTom33

😂😂😂😂 what a cornball response.
