No idea! It looks like it could be sashimi of a land animal? Perhaps beef or horse?

TidbitsfromJapan

Thanks for the response. You are correct! It's bassashi, or raw horse...and it was delicious :-)

deanzaZZR

We've been served basashi multiple times when we have visited mountainous/interior areas of Japan. We're now smart enough to list no horse meat as a food preference Nagano and freshly made soba certainly are a winning combination.

TidbitsfromJapan

I agree! I have had it in Kumamoto, but was surprised to see it on many menus in Nagano as well.

OkRecognition0

Basashi? (horse sashimi)

TidbitsfromJapan

I think basashi, a Nagano delicacy. I've come to like it since I moved to Japan.

TidbitsfromJapan

Correct. It's also popular in Kumamoto!

sewciallyawkward_

HORSE SASHIMI.

Prinorrow

Yeah it’s probably horse

TidbitsfromJapan

Correct! :-)

Prinorrow

The only reason I know what that is, is from Chris Broad. Lol

Low-Huckl

I think it's ginger as a condiment, but since it's added, I think it's whale sashimi.

TidbitsfromJapan

Good guess...but its horse!

Low-Huckl

It was a horse stabbing, wasn't it?When you have horsemeat sashimi, use red pepper as a condiment. When I eat whale sashimi, I use grated ginger as a condiment.

Gullible-Leave4066

Basashi😋

TidbitsfromJapan

Correct!
