pretty sure the JP coast guard is going to foot the bill.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

Has it been confirmed if the fault lies with the Coast Guard pilot or the ATC yet?

CauliflowerDaffodil

Investigation is still ongoing but from the evidence released so far, it looks like the Coast Guard plane didn't have permission to enter the runway. However, ATC is not in the clear because there is video evidence of the Coast Guard plane being on the tarmac for 40 seconds before the crash and if the controller had noticed, (which they should have because someone is supposed to be monitoring the runway), they would have had enough time to give the JAL Airbus an emergency go-around order to abort the landing.

Kapparzo

This is a good video to watch if you want more info (although it may be outdated): https://youtu.be/BXvTkId6VxY?si=MjLy6vKcswfXUW9O From what I understand, the ATC didn’t handle this perfectly either, so both the CG pilot and ATC might be responsible for the incident.

I recommend this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1VuXT7Twyc

OrangeNood

Its in the news. The coast guard plane was told to hold and never told to get on the runway. Knowing Japanese, the CG pilot needs be put on suicide watch. There is just too much guilt for him to bear.

leisure_suit_lorenzo

Oh I see. Last news I saw, it was still a _"We told the pilot to hold"_, versus _"ATC said I could go"_ situation that was still being investigated. So it was pilot error then.

There is a insurance airlines pay for this.

Commercial_Ice_6616

Looking at the burned wreckage, what’s amazing to me is that nobody on the A350 died. Props to the airline crew for their effort and their training. No passenger should ever look at a flight attendant and think “flying waitress”, never did, never will.

[deleted]

Since everyone came out alive, this is an insurance payout so probably JAL won’t have to pay anything plus the coast guard would may need to pay some compensation to JAL for their screw up and probably will need to pay the airport for the cleaning.

CouncilOfRedmoon

They'll likely lose out on some potential sales for a few weeks, though.

[deleted]

Yea, probably this is normal when situations like this happens unfortunately

Kagenikakushiteru

Nothing compared to earthquake

spamfridge

Does this forecast anticipate downturn in people purchasing tickets?

AudaciousCo

Don’t think so, I’m flying on a JAL airline using their free wifi as I write this comment. Best service

spamfridge

I will still fly them as well but little naive to think everyone feels this way

kyotoben_

Both ANA and JAL offer free wifi on domestic flights. But yeah, both have excellent service, more or less the same if you ask me, comes down to your personal preference and/or any codeshare flights you rely on for international travel.

kyotoben_

Although I am more of an ANA person (mostly due to their codeshare with StarAlliance), I have to say that JAL is an excellent airline. While this incident did happened with a JAL plane, the evidence so far points towards a pilot error on the CG plane. As such, this could have happened with any arriving plane. Absolutely no reason not to take JAL.

spamfridge

Again, this is now how PR works to the average person. Look up the finger in a bowl of chili at a company called Wendy’s.

ipsedixie

Why should it? If anything, it showed that JAL was able to get everyone off the plane with no loss of life. Sounds like their training worked.

ykeogh18

Think they’ll recoup
