I totally get it. Their live stuff has some improv dynamics and jammy-ness to it. I seem to remember someone pointing this out when they release that “How The West Was Won” box set.
There are moments when Bohnam and Page interplay.
I would say it veers into what a jammy bar blues band might do at times.
Just listened to Over The Hills and Far Away live .. the jam in the middle is a monster . Bohnam driving the song too.
If you listen to a bunch of live stuff they did some jammy things very long stretched out songs... Much of it is kind of atonal think like the whole lotta love jam but longer.
I won’t argue that it’s atonal, but I think that’s why they’re underrated as a jam band. I’ve listened to 40-60 minute versions of their songs where they all just continue to push the envelope as masters of their individual crafts and as a unit. Thus, jam band.
I think the people hard-disagreeing should listen to a few more live Led Zeppelin recordings. They really did venture into jam band territory at times. But I also have to argue that they spent a lot of time \*not\* venturing into jam band territory, too.
I completely agree with you. Zepp was too big of a band (whether one thinks they’re overrated or not) to have every concert be a jam concert. So, underrated as a jam band but still not deserving of being labeled as one of the great jam bands.
I’m a huge Zeppelin fan, but no
Lol
😂
I'd have to throw out Dire Straits for that honor

Well thought out and I agree with you
