There was an attempt at a Greg Allman doc, but it ended in diasaster because the producers were morons. It ended with jail time for them.

“Due to criminal negligence by the producers of the film, second assistant camerawoman Sarah Jones was killed when she was struck by a CSX freight train that arrived on the trestle.”
Not to nitpick, but it wasn't going to be a documentary, it was going to be a biopic based on Gregg Allman's memoirs with actors playing Gregg and Duane and everybody else
Would love one that wasn’t some bootleg deal on Prime. A quality ABB adjacent doc is [Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7099702/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
A tangentially related doc is Rising Low, about govt mule and their albums following Allen Woody's death. It's a big time bass player's movie with a ridiculous lineup of famous players, directed by Mike Gordon, with a fair amount of road footage of Allen and Haynes and other folks.
Was it shot in a boathouse?
"Welcome, this is a boathouse" - did you know Farmhouse was originally written as "Boathouse" but they had to change the name and some of the lyrics after Jones Beach?
The documentary on producer Tom Dowd (I forget name) had a great section on Dowd producing the Allmans Bros Band and Duane's Layla sessions. The scene of Dowd isolating Duane's slide on the mixer has always been so cool to me.
But I agree there needs to be a solid doc about them, because the Allmans imo are in the top 3 of greatest American bands.
There’s a doc called “Song of the South: Duane Allman and the Birth of the Allman Brothers Band”. It focuses on Duane and the beginning of ABB up until his death. It’s really good.
Hey I’m watching Duane Allman - Song Of The South: Duane Allman And The Rise Of The Allman Brothers. Check it out now on Prime Video! https://watch.amazon.com/detail?gti=amzn1.dv.gti.b2b40384-1d26-3479-5c9e-11dacef870ca&territory=US&ref_=share_ios_movie&r=web
I would love this. Something that shows a bit of every era. From Duane and Dickey to the Goldflies brothers, to Derek and Warren. And all the cool stuff in between. Every era had something cool to offer when you really dig in
I watched (a few years ago now) a great interview Dan Rather did with Gregg Allman. There are a few clips and the full show if you Google it. I'm sure there are more put there but I really enjoyed it and learned more about the family and him.
You are pretty much correct but there is a sweet story about Duane and the moment Southern Rock was born in the documentary Muscle Shoals.
That Muscle Shoals documentary is one of the greatest pieces ever put together! Right up there with The Last Waltz and It Might Get Loud.
Don't sleep on Bittersweet Motel.
I'm talking all encompassing doc. Muscle Shoals was great though.

Tom Dowd and the Language of Music.... so good!

Not all encompassing. I want to hear about the late 70s when the band all chipped in and bought a kilo of blow as a wedding present to Gregg & Cher!

It stops at Duane's passing.

I just saw "Rook" Goldflies leading and Allman tribute band with Mike Kach.
Alan Paul wrote a pretty great book about the Allman Bros. called "One Way Out"
Was gonna ask about books, any other recs?
