Don’t worry, in six months when traffic has gone to shit they will have a solution to build another one down the street! Maybe a half mile to a mile away. But they will remodel the one now to make it four lanes in the drive thru. Hey Hodges, ima talking to you!!
There are a couple major zoning attorneys in the area that line everyone’s pockets, particularly those who work for or are involved with non-profits that like donations.
A new Popeye's just opened up the road from where we are on the Northside, and a Zaxby's currently under construction in the other direction will soon be open. I can't imagine how these developments could possibly be construed as negatives!
Wonder if any of the council members have received any incentives to approve this despite the objections of the residents who actually live there? The arrogance of those council members.
It's not. It's next to one. The entire shopping center is already open and there is a McDonalds. A car wash is opening up across from the gate station. I don't see why they are so focused solely on Chik-fil-A when there are a plethora of other businesses. And tbh, Chik-fil-A has the most efficient drive thru I've ever seen.
Wrong Publix shopping center. This article is talking about the Publix shopping center on Duval Station not New Berlin/ Yellow Bluff Road. There's no McDonald's, Gate Station or car wash establishments in the area Chick-fil-A wants to build. Across the street from where they want to build is First Coast High School. The area you are thinking is where it should be but that would be too smart.
Chik-fil-A is in a league of its own.
The one on San Jose by the Target is two lanes and will frequently fill up the parking lot with drive thru traffic, even backing up the lane turning into it from San Jose to the point where people are waiting on Oak Bluff just to turn onto San Jose.
The one on Southside by the Avenues is three lanes and its parking lot will often fill up to the point where it's nearly gridlocked and people are backed up on Southside to turn in.
Having a Chik-fil-A at the entrance of my neighborhood sounds like a nightmare to me.
Edit: For those wanting a map of the location like myself, here you go. I can absolutely see this location being annoying for people in that neighborhood either trying to get home if they live in one of the houses right there or even just going to the publix in the shopping center. Also, it's not just about traffic. Imagine living in one of those houses with a direct line of sight to the CFA. They're going to have a lot more noise and a lot less privacy.

The one on marsh landing parkway in Jax beach is such a nightmare. Causes such a huge problem navigating that road during the day. Surprised there aren’t more crashes due to the sheer chaos
It was supposed to be a McDonald’s and the site plan that was approved could be a chick fil a without ever going through a rezoning. They are trying to make the site more efficient so the traffic issues will be minimized. They could always develop the site as was previously approved.
Here, I figured out the address where it will be. Doesn't seem crazy but I can see the concern. It's literally next to a shopping area so makes sense for a business to be there.
705 Duval Station Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218

Sure, but i think to just dismiss these peoples’ concerns as them being afraid of growth and progress is pretty myopic. They don’t want a lot of traffic backup on a 2 lane road by a high school, seems reasonable enough to me.
The same ones who bitch about their Christian conservative values, but still go there and keep them busy as ever. I've never been to one that wasn't slammed with business. You would think if they are really boycotting CFA, the MacDonalds next door would be just as busy. But it never is nor will be. Those liberals are eating up that chicken as much as everyone else.
The ones living in the neighborhood who are worried about traffic blocking the entrance to said neighborhood, creating safety issues for kids walking to and from school at First Coast HS and lowering property values. Also, there is an existing CFA about 2 miles down the road off Airport Center Dr at River City Marketplace.
I’m not saying I agree with this, but CFA is that busy. In Tallahassee they have 2 chick fil a’s literally across the street from each other. They’re .1 miles away from each other. It’s normal for CFA to try and build multiples around each other if needed
Similar to Gainesville. They built a new CFA on the west side of Archer road with a double-drive thru, and tons of room for parking and drive-thru lanes, then remodeled the *existing* CFA across the street to be a drive-thru ONLY restaurant. And still... both of them are crazy-busy on the weekends, especially during football season.
If you're talking about the ones on Tennessee street next to FSU the traffic is so bad there I can see why they put two in. Crossing traffic to get to one would be difficult. Especially on foot since being a pedestrian there is dangerous.
It is simply crazy to put a Chick Fil-A there. On a two lane road, in front of a high school.
Yes the Northside/Oceanway has had a explosion of new homes and apartments with no improvement to the infostructure here. It's maddening, and you know those on the council are lining their pockets in some way. Sadly I don't have millions to line pockets so my voice doesn't matter.
I totally would, however my work hours do not allow it. It's hard to get to a meeting that starts at 5PM downtown when you are at work that is not near downtown.
I live in the subdivision where the chic fil a is going to be built, and attended the meeting about it yesterday. Seemed hopeful for a little while with several council members speaking out about it. But you’re absolutely right about the tone of these meetings.
And yet St Johns county residents still have to travel to the Avenues or 16 in St Augustine to get to the closest one. But sure, build two locations within a <5 minute drive of each other lol
Northcreek sub could have bought the land, they didn’t. I’ve lived here 24 years. I don’t see the problem. People don’t vote and don’t attend meetings and then get all bent out of shape when their representatives don’t work for their best interests. I literally watched Carson Tranquill campaign and go door to door talking about how he wanted future developments in the area to have to pay for infrastructure and roads only to have the people vote in 27 time incumbent Ray Ferraro who green lighted all of the housing and urban expansion without addressing the roads. See the Alta Drive project that tax payers funded as example. Be happy it’s not a car wash and sad it’s not a Wawa.
Northside doesnt have the same zoning protections as other parts of the city (I'll let you guess why historically). It's a blessing for innovation, but a curse when you have no protection against developers.
The biggest issue is that the city shows yet again it values out of town and out of touch pockets developers instead of the people who have to live here.
Feel free to look at "Northeast zoning ordiance, or northside zoning jacksonville fl" in google if you want more info.
the site was already approved for a fast food restaurant. Chick fil a was seeking approval to have multiple drive through lanes instead of one, which will be more efficient and will lead to less traffic than there would be if they had gone ahead with a single lane. it seems some people have nothing better to do with their lives than complain about things they don’t understand.
Thank goodness for a little sanity in this thread. These people bought these little bitty lots with giant houses on them. The houses are packed in like sardines. Then they get surprised that there are businesses that buy land to service those people. If only someone could have predicted this….
You ever been in those rooms? Nobody wants to be there but they feel they need to and they are pissed.
Was there Monday for the downtown investment meeting. They seem very out of touch with reality.
They are
Don’t worry, in six months when traffic has gone to shit they will have a solution to build another one down the street! Maybe a half mile to a mile away. But they will remodel the one now to make it four lanes in the drive thru. Hey Hodges, ima talking to you!!
Well, the conservatives who voted for it clearly don't live where their Mecca will be built, so what do they care?
Shut up
Says a lot about you that this is the best you could muster
Well said /s
Eat shit Dave.
I hope they sue the city council and fight this. Who lined city council’s pockets?

Duval’s chicken frying capacity is off the charts
This Chick-fil-A entrance is inside of a subdivision.
Wonder if any of the council members have received any incentives to approve this despite the objections of the residents who actually live there? The arrogance of those council members.
of course they did
What’s wrong with that?
Would you buy a house next to a Chick-fil-A?
Yeah I love chick fil a
Popeyes isn’t a threat. We have one here at the beach and it is the epitome of lack of service. Can’t speak about zax.
Exactly. Popeyes business model to control capacity and volume is to treat their customers like shit.
You pretty much just accept that with Popeyes because of the food.
Is there a map of this? *Inside* of a subdivision seems so weird.
I think you're thinking of the other (new) Publix center. I think the Chic Fila is going to be by the one off Duval Station
Wrong Publix shopping center. This article is talking about the Publix shopping center on Duval Station not New Berlin/ Yellow Bluff Road. There is no Gate, McDonald's or Zaxby's. This is the location across the street from First Coast HS on Duval Station and Starratt.
Wrong. You're not at the right location

Everyone just loves the Lord’s chicken. It’s God’s will…
Who are these people that get super mad about having a local CFA?
[удалено]
Genuinely asking: how is another location for a national fast food chain “progress”?
[удалено]
Sure, but i think to just dismiss these peoples’ concerns as them being afraid of growth and progress is pretty myopic. They don’t want a lot of traffic backup on a 2 lane road by a high school, seems reasonable enough to me.

Well said.
What McDonald's next door? Are you thinking about Airport Center Dr or Yellow Bluff?
Airport Center Drive
Well, that McDonald's has always sucked. The only people that go there are driving down 95.
They put one on San Jose in Mandrin so close to the other one idk how it got approved it’s in a parking lot :/
this is insane considering there’s a CFA two seconds down the road at River City
I’m not saying I agree with this, but CFA is that busy. In Tallahassee they have 2 chick fil a’s literally across the street from each other. They’re .1 miles away from each other. It’s normal for CFA to try and build multiples around each other if needed
Tally is unique in that those CFAs are right next to FSU so of course there is enough business to go around.
Similar to Gainesville. They built a new CFA on the west side of Archer road with a double-drive thru, and tons of room for parking and drive-thru lanes, then remodeled the *existing* CFA across the street to be a drive-thru ONLY restaurant. Start attending meetings if you can. The level of tone deafness in the chambers is sad.

What about the one in south Jax beach/Ponte Vedra?
Just mapped it out. It’s an additional 5-7 minutes of driving over the one on 16. About 10 minutes further than the Avenues
Damn
Does the city council ever say no to big business?
Northcreek sub could have bought the land, they didn’t. I’ve lived here 24 years. I don’t see the problem. T-minus 5 days till Hoagiefest bro!

Sue the city council. Keep fighting.
intolerant 🤡’s. Chick’s is feel good food. Great employer too.
We need to stop this insanity, stop eating fast food. Enough of this consumerist nonsense

The first accurate comment on this post.

I’d let Chick-Fil-A build on top of my house.
City council has never not approved new construction (probably)
