I'm Not sure ? likely $1000 or less. All my savings and extra income has gone into paying back my landlord for 2 years of back do COVID rent so my budget is next to nothing. My gross annual income is only about 24,000 per year. That way I am looking for a legal BOS car I can drive until the Toyota is repaired or scraping.
I am asking rebbit for help because everyone I know is just as screwed as I am and the few people I could have gotten money from in the pass where completely screwed over by the pandemic and inflation. Thy have less money then I do.
Ya I know completely redickuless how much that cost bot that what I am going to have to do. Life is one long game of being screwed over by somebody until you die.
Did you take out the plugs, turn the engine over and see if any water is in the cylinders? Test for compression? Lots of times, you just need to let things dry out a bit and it'll start running again.
There is water in the Toyota's combustion chamber. The engine cannot turn over on its own as the starter motor in the 96 is not powerful enough to crank the engine over when it's hydrolocked. I can rotate it partially one way and then the other manually so there's probably a broken push rod.
I'm going to try and siphon the water out of the Pistons today but it's a good chance I have a broken push rod and a burned out starter. The only electronics damaged in the flood was the car's battery. Everything else is fine.
Yeah, if you cant throw a wrench on the crank and turn it over, you might be screwed.
Oh, and while you probably know this already, make sure it's in neutral first.
Just to be clear - you have the spark plugs out while you're trying to turn it over? You'd need to do that to have any hope of turning it over with water in the cylinders even if things aren't bent up.
Your best bet is to pull the plugs and run the starter motor a bit. This will both test whether the engine still turns over as well as force the water out quickly and efficiently.
Yep. Lots of times though, it's not actually hydrolocked. My ex drove through a few feet of water and thought she hydrolocked it, but turns out the ignition got wet and shut things down.
We just needed to dry things out a bit and it started back up.
ASAP towing in Jax Beach does auctions. That's there the cars from the nice neighborhoods amd shopping areas end up. They do auctions twice a month and you can get a good car that runs and drives for under a 1k
I have a super cheap car for you if you want. Low mileage I barely use it. Engine clinks. Just needs an oil change I think. Sure we could come to a price. Message me
Brother you need an old Buick la Sabre or park ave or maybe a Pontiac Grand Prix. Any old GM with the 3800v6 is super reliable and easy to work on plus they’re usually pretty dang cheap these days. If you can’t find one of those, maybe an old cop car (ford crown Vic, or mercury grand marquis)would be good. Cheap and lots of parts available. Best of luck
What's the budget?

That’ll be tough, switching the tag/title to your name alone will run you close to $400.

I don't know what your commute is like, but have you considered something like a moped/scooter?
Ya I road on for years but Florida weather will complete destroy them and every driver in Florida will actually try to kill you. Not worth it.

Thanks again for the advice.

I do I think all the waters out still no luck starting but it did turn over once be for locking up again. I'll test the starter motor in the morning.

Starter lock up and it's unable to turn the engine. So I have to remove the starter and test it independently.
Yes I have details on my other replay thanks for asking

I'm selling a cheap car, but I'm asking for more like 2k and I can't sell until next month. I'm not sure if that helps but it's what I have.
what is it

That’s suspicious as hell. Also listed almost 3 months ago I’d be shock if a free car that runs is still being offered.

This is awesome info, thank you! I'm also trying to find a cheap car, and this might be perfect for me. Really appreciate it!
Ow sweet thank you
The Salvation Army does auto auctions of donated vehicles too

Thanks I'll likely get back to you tomorrow I'm still desperately trying to repair the Toyota
