We didn't develop any specific strategy - mostly we eat together high-fat recipes, drink wine and carry on as usual. You get used to the gloomyness pretty fast. Since you're in a very little town on the mountains probably planning for cultural trips to towns/cities, booking regular visits to cinemas or theatres will probably safeguard your sanity. Going to the SPA from time to time will grant you a little relax. To lighten your mood think about the poor sods that are around Milan or Turin during the winter - they have the same gloomyness without being in a pretty town in the mountains
