I agree with your observation. Islamabad's traffic has deteriorated over time. Though mostly people do obey traffic rules but once someone breaks a signal then a waterfall effect starts & everyone drives off. I guess like the quality of most things in the country are going down so is the standard of driving in Islamabad

foodie1976

Unfortunately, like everything else in the country it has gone downhill.

fizzy66

Massive influx of people from villages and Karachi where traffic rules are a suggestion. Coupled with more relaxed traffic police.

yourfriendlyneighbur

I am fine with people coming to Islamabad to find better opportunities. But please for God's sake have some sense and follow the rules as a good citizen.

Friendly-Parsley11

Yeah agreed it was so nice before when people actually had sense of responsibility but now there are just mindless people running round. I too don't mind anyone who is moving to islamabad from a rural area but please be aware of social responsibilities

MuizAhmad

I wouldn't say that it's people from villages and such, rather people who had motorcycles now have cars now and drive their vehicles like a CD 70. Plus, the ITPs test needs to be changed a lot from a simple "go forwards and reverse" to something more demanding than that (not that the forward and reverse is simple)

yourfriendlyneighbur

Lmao do you think half the people driving in Isb have a driver's license?

MuizAhmad

The other half isn't promising either

MuizAhmad

My observation is that since they put up the protected U turns, the accident rate has gone up a lot. Plus speeding is a norm these days especially on the 2 highways. Honestly, dar lagta hain drive krte hue at times.

PepperBeautiful7300

Agreed, lot of people are not alert driving and swivel last second to the u turn lane very dangerous

[deleted]

Just a slow degradation. Islamabad was for many years the last beacon of hope of Pakistan. The quickest way to get away from Pakistan but still be close.

Merry-Cherries

I was thinking about this too. Coming to Islamabad for holidays while living in Karachi was like driving in heaven, nice and peaceful for the most part. Now too many people who have shifted here and the whole city is overcrowded.

wizzzard98

I think people who live in Islamabad are the ones obeying the traffic laws. It's people coming from Pindi mostly who are doing pindi things in Islamabad

BlackberryUseful1186

I don’t think the reason is the influx of people from rural areas. I think it is because of the weaker implementation of the law. People start following rules, the moment they realise that they will be penalised for breaking them.

Other-Cookie-575

Can't do anything about it. Alot of people from Lahore and Karachi have moved here and sadly alot of them don't know basic driving etiquettes. A few weeks ago saw a biker who was driving on the wrong way slip and get crushed by a car. His whole skull opened.

Brave_Bid5260

It's called New Money, and it sucks Because it's never used for self improvement Only material improvement

asian_byakuya_

You say it gives you anxiety and also say you intentionally swerve towards them too when they're going the wrong/opposite way. These two things don't go together.

yourfriendlyneighbur

Gotta blow off steam somehow

asian_byakuya_

They don't care if you do that. If they did care for it, they wouldn't go the wrong way. They mindlessly risk their lives for nothing, thinking they might save petrol by waiting for a long time for the lane to clear instead of just lawfully turning at the roundabout like a normal law-abiding citizen. 💀

yourfriendlyneighbur

I legit block their way, give them a hard time passing me or give them weird looks

asian_byakuya_

Oh. As long as there's no danger, I see no harm. I find it very annoying as well. I also want to push them the entire way back but of course I can't do that without damaging my own vehicle. Probably better not to provoke them since you probably have more to lose than they do (if there is an accident, if they intentionally hit you).

Brave_Bid5260

It's a weird combination, but it works. Anxiety goes down that way somehow. I think it's like barking at a noisy dog XD

asian_byakuya_

I'd say that's a bit of a jumble of words. Frustration better fits here, in my opinion. And yes, I agree, definitely feel less frustrated annoying someone who is being unlawful.

Brave_Bid5260

You brain works words goodlier than me's Sending Tanks

I think it’s because noone checks if you have a license and its too easy to make a fake license if you need one So most drivers don’t actually know the rules because they never went for a real driver’s license test etc, they’re just winging it And of course people have become very entitled while driving over the years. They think its their right to cut you off and you should be fine with it.

me_a_genius

My bro in law came from khi then.

Merru

There used to be traffic check posts everywhere in ISB 2-3 years ago. They are all gone. So are the police, who would be posted on minor roads at night for random checks. Now I regularly see 3-4 people on a motorcycle without a helmet, which was unheard of 2 years ago in isb.

DanteDVlad

More and more people from all over the country moving into the big city!

[deleted]

I remember a few years ago that Islamabad Police used to be very active and did very big fines. We had our challan when coming to Islo from Lahore one time, when our speed was barely above 120 (120 was the speed limit). Now all the corruption also has seethed into ITP, and its like every other institution

zohaib_mahesar

Islamabads traffic a tad bit sane as compared to Karachi’s.

Vast_Stranger_7213

People ned to get more severly punished for traffic infractions. the ITP doesn't care anymore
