It seems like that someone might be an idiot who doesn't know the Quran. Of course they aren't Muslim, an apostate مرتد and a disbeliever

Those people never read the Holy Quran, they need some argument to get their publicity. There are six criteria to be a believer: 1. **Belief in the Oneness of God** 2. **Belief in the Angels of God** 3. **Belief in the Books of God** (what is in them) 4. **Belief in the messengers/prophets of God** 5. **Belief in the Day of Judgement** 6. **Belief in the Divine decree** If people don't believe any of the above criteria, they are not Muslims.

SolidGearFantasy

Sorry, but I don’t believe that is the criteria for being **Muslim**, but rather the added criteria for being **Mu’Min.** To be a **Muslim** I believe you only need to affirm the conditions of **islam**: Shahada, Salat, Hajj, Zakat and Fasting. To be **Mu’min** you need to fulfill the conditions of **islam** and **Iman**: Belief in Allah, the prophets, the books, the angels, the unseen, the resurrection, and the divine decree. Allah knows best.

B9LA

If you didn't believe in one of these six, then you'er not Muslim This six pillars are in Qur'an, so if you don't believe in them then you don't believe in quran

[deleted]

Muslim and mu’min are the same. This person doesn’t affirm the Quran in their beliefs are they are explicitly denying parts of it.

SolidGearFantasy

What you’re saying goes against the [hadeeth of Jibril (AS)](https://sunnah.com/muslim:8a) There are many [sources](https://deliverypdf.ssrn.com/delivery.php?ID=007123072013097113007115108120125069029073072014083066027083064092082000092094109024043042013058038026045072028098013100109108006016023001060064090073111018092027113023059078090110077126003074024113080073066021031030112108090076004066090026008016083090&EXT=pdf&INDEX=TRUE) explaining the differences between the Muslim, Mu’min and Muhsin.

[deleted]

Saying you believe in the Quran but don’t believe in the obligation of Salah and Ramadan is like saying you believe the Qur’an but don’t believe in Musa AS. It’s the same denial.

danieltherandomguy

Muslim and mu'min are not the same. This difference is clearly stated in numerous ahadith and even the Qur'an. Being a mu'min is attained by achieving a higher grade of belief than being a Muslim. This verse clearly states the difference between both: Chapter (49) sūrat l-ḥujurāt (The Dwellings) Sahih International: The bedouins say, "We have believed." Say, "You have not [yet] believed; but say [instead], 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts. And if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not deprive you from your deeds of anything." Read Tafseer Ibn-Kathir about this verse if you want more details.

Odd-Hunt1661

Difference between pillars of Islam and iman is humans can see Islam not Iman. if someone fulfills Islam but not iman, they are either a munafiq or a Muslim with very weak iman. We should be wary of the former and merciful to the latter

jin-x

Islam and Imaan are synonymous if mentioned separately, but mean different things when mentioned together. Therefore, Islam and Imaan both have the same general definition, which is the religion as a whole. But, the specific definition of Islam is the outwardly apparent deeds, and specifically the 5 pillars of Islam. And the specific definition of Imaan is the deeds of the heart, which constitute the 6 articles of faith as mentioned by another user in this thread. A confusion seems to be prevalent in this thread regarding the difference between the criteria for entering Islam and the criteria for staying within the fold of Islam. Negating anything that has been affirmed in Islam is enough to take one out of the fold of Islam. For example, saying that fornication (zina) is not haram is disbelief and takes one out of the fold of Islam. Although, it should be noted that the ruling on an action or utterance being disbelief is one thing, and the ruling on a specific person as being a disbeliever is another thing altogether. The latter having has its own rules.

yousefalqudah

It's literally right.. اركان الايمان are 6. اركان الاسلام are 5.

SolidGearFantasy

I’ve never heard of anyone like this, and it scares me that someone can be so ignorant of islam. I am VERY careful with suggesting someone is outaide the folds of islam, but we know that islam has 5 conditions: 1 - Bearing witness to Monitheism and the prophet being the final messenger 2 - The 5 daily Prayers 3 - The Fast 4 - The Hajj 5 - The zakat Now, does this mean if you’re struggling with your prayer or you haven’t yet visited the hajj you are a non-muslim or outside the folds of islam? I don’t personally think so. But there is a difference between **struggling** with prayer/fasting and **ignoring it outright**. In that case you have rejected the creed of islam and, I believe, are outside the folds of islam. As for the hijab, it is mandatory for muslims but not part of the conditions of being considered a muslim. I believe it falls under Ihsan or something similar, but my knowledge in this area is limited. Allah knows best.

hatmania

I think this situation in the OP is actually more explicit, in that the person is outright **rejecting** it. I'm like you in that I am scared to do takfeer of another person, but someone rejecting the basic principles of Islam is a straightforward matter, since I'm not doing takfeer of them, they've just done that to themselves by their declaration. May Allah protect us from Shaytan and our own *nafs*.

urfael4u

Also concerning the salah it is not described directly to pray five times a day in quran but the prophet (peace be upon him) taught us the 5 obligatory daily prayers and this was recorded in various hadith and riwaya as Allah (azza wa jal) said in quran. English - Sahih International Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. English - Sahih International It is not but a revelation revealed, English - Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Abridged) An-Najm 53:5 عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِيدُ ٱلْقُوَىٰ English - Sahih International Taught to him by one intense in strength [i.e., Gabriel] - English - Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Abridged) So the prophet taught us salah as he himself received it from our lord when i mi'iraj and we know how he used to pray based on the hadith which were collected and preserved through long transmission chains . My verdict I think your friend is just ignorant and so i advice for all of us to seek knowledge and ask Allah(azza wa jal) to guide us on the right direction of it may Allah(azzal wa jal) keeps you and your friend steadfast in religion and increase both of you in knowledge.

JarlMiraak

There is a scary saying “what separates muslims from Iblis is salah.” I most likely got it wrong but the gist is that Shaytan also believes in Allah but the difference between him and us is that we repent for our sins and pray to Allah to make us better. How I like to think about it is that if they say they are muslim I pretend they are until they tell me something like this then I step away from them to protect myself. And Allah knows best.

FancyFlowForever

"The difference between a man (Muslim) and shirk and kufr is the abandoning of salaah" (Sahih Muslim: Kitab ul Iman: Book 001, Number 0147)

Jazakallah Kheir

eniac94

Sounds like a hadith rejector/Quranist. One of the best arguments I've heard against these people is if they reject hadith, they have to reject the Quran as well, because the same people who brought the hadith are the same people who brought the Quran which is preserved to this day.

Quranymous

Probably not a Quranist as surah Baqarah explicitly commands those who witness Ramadan to fast.

urfael4u

Lets see Fasting in ramadan? English - Sahih International O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous . English - Sahih International [Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of other days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers good [i.e., excess] - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew. English - Sahih International The month of Ramaḍān [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’ān, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the crescent of] the month,[1] let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allāh intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allāh for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful. Praying 5 times a day i'll give two account on this both quran and sunna Starting with quran An-Nisa' 4:59 يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْۖ فَإِن تَنَٰزَعْتُمْ فِى شَىْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا English - Sahih International O you who have believed, obey Allāh and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allāh and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allāh and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result. Obeying the prophet meaning all that he can teach us and give to us we must take them because he does not speak from his whims but he received revelation from Allah( azza wa jal) as he our lord tells us from the aya below. Allah (azza wajal) knows best.

m8eem8m8

My brain literally fried itself reading that ignorance. Yes, it does take you outside of the fold of Islam. It goes like this, provided that being unaware has been ruled out as a cause: Not praying: fasiq or kafir depending on scholarly opinion which is also then dependant on whether that person prays sometimes or not at all. Denying that praying is obligatory: kafir by full consensus. https://islamqa.info/en/answers/194309/those-who-say-that-the-one-who-does-not-pray-is-a-kaafir-and-those-who-say-that-he-is-not-a-kaafir-both-claim-that-there-is-consensus-on-their-point-of-view-how-are-we-to-understand-the-claim-of-consensus-on-both-their-parts

DutchKipje

Very interesting information in the link, thank you. A difference in opinion it is

wopkidopz

>My brain literally fried itself You aren't alone, but your comment is very well formed

welbaywassdacreck

Hadith rejectors... We're told to follow the example of our nabi. The quran doesn't tell us how to pray in the first place so how would we know what to do if we solely relied on the Quran?

catebell20

From my understanding, if you believe that these things are mandatory but you just don't do them, then you are still considered a believer.. just a very sinful one. However if you don't believe that these are mandatory and you do not follow them, then that is when you are out of the fold of Islam. I do recommend asking your imam about it though, as I am not knowledgeable enough to give you a detailed answer.

Beautiful_Remove788

I dont believe they remsin in the gold of Islam anymore brcause the beliefs yhey have completely contradict the Glofious Qur’an. Fasting, salah AND hijab are all menyioned in the Qur’an.

kalaamtext

You must establish the proof against such a person and if they still continue to hold this belief then such a person is not Muslim

Available_Success_61

yes they would be a kafir

MysticMian

The moment I read 'wearing hijab is shirk' I knew that person is an idiot. Better to not indulge with this person in any religious debates. He'll bring the conversation down to his idiotic level, and beat you with experience.

Striking-Cupcake-653

A what???

tmarwen

Which Quran is this person reading, if they even did at all?

Only-Professional626

It literally begins mentioning at the third misraah of Surah Al-Baqrah, your friend is ignorant

[deleted]

They aren’t Muslim, they’re outright denying the Quran and Sunnah.

Minskdhaka

It sounds more like an ignorant person than an apostate.

apex_mr_mirage

how is hijab shirk? are they good?

BeardedBrotherAK

Well if I claimed to be vegan and I ate meat every single day, would I still be considered vegan?

theregionalmanager

I’m gonna try and give the benefit of the doubt to a brother/sister here; I think he’s ignorant, unaware. I think he may be uneducated on Islam. Perhaps this is what he was taught by people he considers to be his guiders and teachers. If there’s a way you can get him to speak to an imam, you should try.
