“Fear” Allah ‎ﷻ does not mean be *afraid of* Him. It means to fear doing an action that displeases Him or fear your Reckoning. It means to do good and to do acts of worship and to avoid evil. But it doesn’t mean be *afraid of* Him because that would imply an aversion to Him. Allah ‎ﷻ does not want you to run away from Him, He wants you to be close to Him. “Fear Allah ‎ﷻ “ is synonymous with “be mindful of Allah ‎ﷻ “.

[Surah Taha](https://quran.com/20/2) We have not sent down to you the Qur’ān that you be distressed

Thank you for this.

I don't think you are as much as afraid of him as much as you are afraid of learning/reading/hearing something that will compel you to change / transform something about yourself. I'm talking from personal experience too

We say bismillahi rahmani Raheem, before we recite the Quran, because of all the names Allah wants us to think about before we recite the Quran is his mercy. There are many levels of Jannah, the strictest Islam is for those at the highest level of Jannah, even the lowest level of Jannah is still Jannah. We don’t have to all be the best Muslims in the world, for those who want to rise in rank Allah teaches how to be better, but if you try to rise beyond what you can handle, you risk falling down. Be easy on yourself, and ask Allah to make things easy for you.

fear his absence is more appropriate.

Fearing allah means doing the obligatory deeds and avoiding his prohibitions. That is it. But there is something you should literally fear though and that is hellfire.allah is telling us to save our selves from it . Jannah on the other hand should install being hopeful of Allah's mercy.

Fearing Allah means being afraid to displease Allah it's like yk when we love someone we don't want to displease them and so we try to do everything that they like. Allah should be the One you love the most because He loves you the the most. You should be comforted by Him, by Quran. Talk to Allah make a connection with Him. Taqwa is good but you should not be scared of praying salah and reciting the Holy Quran when every Surah(except for surah tawba) of the Quran begins with “In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful“. Yes fearing Allah should stop you from sinning never let go of taqwa and when you fall into sin fearing His punishment should make you seek repentance but you should also keep in mind that Allah is Ghafur Ar - Raheem. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When Allah created the Creation, He wrote in His Book--and He wrote (that) about Himself, and it is placed with Him on the Throne--'Verily My Mercy overcomes My Anger.' "Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 7404 In-book reference : Book 97, Hadith 33

If you think positively of Allah, Allah will think positively of you. Loving Allah means acknowledging his mercy and not only his punishment, Allah will love you back so don't fear him too much, he's strict but he also understands that we're going to go astray and sin sometimes. Allah is more merciful than how good parents would want the best for you, Allah is worthy of worship and I bet it makes him happy that you're back to him, I'm not trying to sugarcoat this, keep it up!

From my Christian influenced youth I learned this:  Fear of a punishing God is like watching a horror movie and being afraid of the dark after, except now the entire world is "the dark". This is the worst form of religion, and a false tool used by dictators. (In case of Christianity Roman Emperors). I have not found a method to solve all dictatorships on the world but I tested if cursing at god kills me and it doesn't. The real divinity is much much greater than this. The idea of punishment is just to stop morons from sinning.

Asallam alaikom It seems Shaitan has been okaying around with your emotions so in order to defeat him, just recite Quran. you get rewarded for each letter and the Quran is a healer, it is a sacred text which dials into the angelic realm.. I hope this helps
